The door frame that divided Titanic viewers about the hypothetical fate of Leonardo DiCaprio’s Jack Dawson has sold for $718,750 at Heritage Auctions’ Treasures from Planet Hollywood event. The item, as noted in a description from the auction house, was “based on the most famous complete piece of debris salvaged from the 1912 tragedy,” which director James Cameron had recreated for the film.
The prop, broken off from the door to the first-class lounge on the ship, was one of a number of Titanic memorabilia items sold at the auction. The ship’s helm wheel,...

Mark Wahlberg is known for movies such as “The Departed” and “Ted”. However, if things went just a bit differently, he would have been known for “Titanic” and Leonardo DiCaprio would have had to find his luck elsewhere.
Leonardo DiCaprio || Jack Dawson
Besides DiCaprio, many soon-to-be big names were considered for the role of Jack Dawson including Wahlberg. While auditioning for the role, his experience went beyond the typical audition setting. However, it did not go too well for him as James Cameron eventually went with DiCaprio for the role.

James Cameron, Leonardo DiCaprio, and Kate Winslet created history with Titanic in 1997. It brought unfathomable fame and recognition for the young actors. The film took home a record number of awards for it at the Oscars. However, Leonardo would have missed it all if Cameron had stuck by his decision not to cast Leo as Jack Dawson. The casting process was a very messy one.
Firstly, Cameron did not want to take Leo for his movie, and then the Oscar-winning actor was reluctant to do the film. In an interview, Kate once revealed how she tracked Leo down in a hotel and tried to convince him for the part. She reportedly kept calling him and went on to persuade him until he felt guilty about it and finally gave in. He was petrified of the film,...

"Jack - let's just leave our old baggage at the door." Vertigo Releasing has revealed an official trailer for an minimalistic action thriller from the UK called Jackdaw, marking the feature debut of filmmaker Jamie Childs. This premiered at both Fantastic Fest & Sitges Film Festival this year, playing at these two most prestigious genre festivals. The film then sends him on a journey through the nocturnal underworld of northern England's industrial wasteland. Most of the film follows Oliver Jackson-Cohen as Jack Dawson (hence "Jackdaw") on his motorbike, trying to stay ahead of the other drug dealers and criminals after him. The cast includes Jenna Coleman, Thomas Turgoose, and Rory McCann. This is a slick thriller, I quite...

“World’s Largest Metaphor Hits Ice-Berg,” read the The Onion headline. Agreed. As Kate Winslet’s own Freud-referencing Rose Dewitt Bukater snips, James Cameron’s Titanic is epic cinema’s grandest erection, and when the near-scale model set of the towering hulk of steel that was, at the time, the largest ship in the world severs down the middle, it then becomes the most vulgar representation of castration to ever cause millions of heartwarmed teenage girls to choke sobs into their fists. It’s a ready-made sarcophagus for everything that’s vulgar in mainstream cinema. Titanic both embodies and validates the excess that is its own subject.
And Titanic is arguably the most artlessly touching disaster movie of all. No, really. Time and a number of equally irony-free blockbusters in the interim (including Steven Spielberg’s War of the Worlds and Peter Jackson’s original Lord of the Rings...

A hybrid gangster film and deep rooted family drama played out across the course of two days, Jamie Childs’ Jackdaw opens with the full force of the North Sea and, at its conclusion, finds the same power in an actor’s face. It’s a gritty thriller with great performances, some lively comic touches and a sense of conviction which will keep your attention fixed on the screen throughout.
The sea – specifically, a buoy near a wind farm, whose thunderous noise provides an eerie backdrop – is where we first see Jack Dawson (Oliver Jackson-Cohen) in a yellow canoe, forcing his way through angry waves. When he reaches the appointed spot he dives, retrieves a package, but on getting back to the surface he find himself being pursued by two figures on jetskis. A dangerous chase follows which doesn’t let up when he’s back on the mainland and on the motocross bike.

André Øvredal’s “The Last Voyage of the Demeter” is technically adapted from the chapter from Bram Stoker’s “Dracula” in which the famous vampire ships himself to England while feasting on the crew, but this drab and generic piece of mid-August schlock might as well be based on a napkin where someone once wrote: “What if ‘Alien,’ but on big wooden boat?”

Titanic was an important film to both Winslet and DiCaprio. The pair found themselves becoming megastars seemingly overnight, which changed their lives forever. But DiCaprio wasn’t completely on board the project that would make him a household name almost everywhere in the world.

Actor Kate Winslet clinched the role of a lifetime after being cast in James Cameron’s Titanic.
But before being paired with Leonardo DiCaprio, there was another potential love interest she screened with that tried to interfere with her audition.

Titanic marked a significant shift in both the actor’s life and career. On one hand, Winslet dealt with a level of attention that she sometimes found overwhelming. On the other hand, the star-power she acquired from Titanic opened more lucrative opportunities. The actor soon found she didn’t even have to audition anymore for her roles.
While avoiding auditions may have made it easier to be cast in certain films, Winslet thought the screening process still had its benefits.
“I miss that—the adrenaline of wanting something that much when you go into a room for something.

Matthew McConaughey was one of a few actors who auditioned for James Cameron’s Titanic. Leonardo DiCaprio would later end up with the role, which would catapult DiCaprio into mega-stardom. But losing out the role may have had the opposite affect on McConaughey.

DiCaprio wasn’t the only co-star who Winslet auditioned with on Titanic. There were quite a few young actors who she was paired with vying for DiCaprio’s future role as Jack Dawson. She confirmed that one of those stars was McConaughey himself, who she had high praises for. But the dynamic between Winslet and McConaughey would’ve been far different than the dynamic between herself and DiCaprio.

Leonardo DiCaprio became a household name after being a part of James Cameron’s Titanic. But his newfound celebrity was a double-edged sword, which made the actor consider taking a long break from acting.

Much has changed in DiCaprio’s life ever since he first boarded 1997’s Titanic. He’s grown from being a Hollywood heartthrob to becoming one of the most respected veteran actors in the film industry. But as is always the case with aging, he’s also gone through quite a physical change over the years. Cameron himself took notice of the physical changes in both DiCaprio and Kate Winslet experienced over the years. This made his Titanic film feel like a sort of time capsule.

(To celebrate "Titanic" and its impending 25th-anniversary re-release, we've put together a week of explorations, inquires, and deep dives into James Cameron's box office-smashing disaster epic.)
On April 12, 1912, Fabrizio De Rossi was crushed to death by one of the smokestacks of the Rms Titanic. To that, I say: good riddance! Fabrizio is a fictional character in James Cameron's romance-disaster epic "Titanic," and gosh is he annoying. As played by Danny Nucci, Fabrizio is the best buddy of Jack Dawson, played, of course, by Leonardo DiCaprio. We first meet Fabrizio when he's playing cards with Jack. They're not playing for money, though. No, the winner of this card game scores two third-class tickets on the Titanic, which, wouldn't ya know it, is getting ready to leave! Hurry up, boys! You'll miss your date ... with destiny.
After some fakery on Jack's part (he's such a scamp!), the blonde beauty reveals that...

Like many historical dramas, "Titanic" transplants a fictional story onto a real one. The ship and the tragedy were real, but Jack Dawson (Leonardo DiCaprio), Rose DeWitt Bukater (Kate Winslet), and the passion they shared weren't. That doesn't mean director James Cameron settled for inauthenticity. Even when showcasing digital alien worlds, Cameron is out to make his characters feel real.
Cameron shared how he sought this realism in a 1997 interview with Charlie Rose, shortly before the release of "Titanic." He spoke with someone who was alive in 1912 when the "Titanic" sank, but who had never been on the ship. By the late 1990s, less than a dozen Titanic survivors were still around and were all too young to remember what had happened. The last one,...

From the minute Kate Winslet steps on screen in "Titanic," we are transfixed by her. In a true Hollywood moment, Rose lifts her head and the swoop of her giant hat reveals her hopeful teenage face. The audience marvels at her classic beauty while she looks up at the ship of dreams that will change her life forever.
Kate Winslet earned an Oscar nomination for her nuanced portrayal of Rose DeWitt Bukater in the blockbuster romance, but the role was no easy feat. James Cameron acknowledges the difficulty of the part in The Daily Mail:
"A 19-year-old girl who was going to carry a film of that scale on her shoulders, it's a huge responsibility. You're standing on set surrounded by 2,000 extras and all the lights and cameras are pointed at you. If you don't pull it off, it doesn't work."

When James Cameron set out to make "Titanic," historical accuracy was paramount. He traveled to the actual wreck of the ship, which sunk on April 15, 1912, after striking an iceberg, killing over 1,500 souls. "Titanic" was a powerful piece of cinema, nominated for 14 Academy Awards, winning 11, including Best Picture and Best Director. It was the first film to reach the billion-dollar mark, making it the highest-grossing film in Paramount Pictures' history until it was dethroned just this January by "Top Gun: Maverick."
If there is some way you've managed to live in this world and not know about "Titanic," it's the story of the ocean liner that made its maiden voyage from Southampton, England, heading to New York City on April 10, 1912. The ship was called "unsinkable,...

Among the impressive ensemble of characters in James Cameron's 1997 epic "Titanic," one of the most endearing is Fabrizio (Danny Nucci), bestie of Leonardo DiCaprio's Jack Dawson. The pair wins their tickets aboard the doomed America-bound ocean liner in a card game; standing at the ship's bow, Fabrizio claims to be able to see the Statue of Liberty already – "Very small, of course."
Over the movie's six-month shoot, Nucci's character would have as full of an arc as you could get in a disaster picture: he gets a ticket to America, dances below decks, and tragically perishes along with scores of other passengers and crew. But the death scene in the final product — in which Fabrizio is crushed by one of the ship's...

Titanic hits theaters again for the 25th anniversary with a remastered version in 4K quality in 3D. James Cameron’s historical epic was the first of his last three movies, which would cross two billion dollars as Avatar: The Way of Water‘s continued reign recently accomplished that feat. Now that the prolific action sci-fi director will be re-welcoming the film featuring the infamous doomed romance to cinemas, Entertainment Weekly reports that Cameron used his bottomless resources to recreate the pivotal moment that killed off Jack Dawson, played by Leonardo DiCaprio.
Ever since the film was released, it made millions of teenage girls cry with Jack’s sacrifice of letting Rose stay afloat on a piece of a door from the sunken ship while he perish in the freezing water. In a popular internet debate, people wonder if there was enough room on the door for Jack to prevent his demise.

It's always great when a movie is quotable, when you can take catchy lines from a film and repurpose them to fit into your own daily life. Most likely, at one point or another, you have found yourself, in a moment of disorientation, telling someone, "I have a feeling we're not in Kansas anymore!" Or perhaps, you've passionately whispered, "My preciousssss..." while coveting something you've long desired. If you've felt like pulling a Jack Dawson while sailing on a boat, you've definitely stood at the bow of a ship and screamed, "I'm king of the world!" -- most likely to everyone else's displeasure.
