“Access Hollywood” executive producer Mauren Fitzpatrick will be leaving the show after four years, two individuals with knowledge told TheWrap.
Fitzpatrick began helming the NBC entertainment newsmagazine franchise in 2019, taking over running both the taped show and “Access Live” as longtime EP Rob Silverstein exited after 20 years in the position.
Fitzpatrick’s departure follows the exit of production executive Justin Batey, who served as senior executive in charge of production.
Fitzpatrick and Batey’s reasons for the exiting NBCUniversal are unknown at this time. An NBCU representative declined to comment for this article. We were unable to reach Fitzpatrick and Batey for comment.
First joining the franchise as a consultant in early 2018, Fitzpatrick helped develop several concepts and pilots for NBCUniversal’s syndication division, including overseeing development and pilot production for syndicated series “Judge Jerry” and managing development and production for Oxygen’s “Crime Time” pilot.

The new owner of People magazine plans to adapt the entertainment and human interest magazine into a daily TV series set to launch in the fall on the company’s TV stations.
Meredith Corp., which acquired People through its Time Inc. purchase in early 2018, has tapped “Access Hollywood” veteran Rob Silverstein to lead the half-hour strip as executive producer and showrunner. The series will be “People-branded” but the formal title has not been unveiled. It will originate from New York and air initially on the Big Three network affiliates that Meredith owns in 12 mid-sized heartland markets.
Silverstein told Variety the series would mirror the venerable magazine that mixes celebrity and entertainment coverage with human interest and lifestyle stories. The breadth of People magazine’s coverage of pop culture, news and trends gives a TV series plenty to material to assemble a daily program.
“The magazine is so well respected for what they do now.

Morales will continue working for NBC News as West Coast anchor for “Today” and as a correspondent for “Dateline.” Her departure comes a month after “Access” underwent an executive producer shuffle with Maureen FitzPatrick replacing longtime leader Rob Silverstein. Word that Morales was on her way out of “Access” first surfaced last month in the Daily Mail.
Morales is not expected to be immediately replaced. Kit Hoover will remain anchor of the early-evening “Access” newsmagazine, and co-host with Scott Evans of the daytime news and talk show “Access Live.”
Here is a memo Morales sent to “Access” staffers as she announced her departure on Friday:

Rob Silverstein is leaving as executive producer of NBC’s “Access Hollywood” entertainment newsmagazine franchise. He will be replaced by Maureen FitzPatrick.
FitzPatrick will now steer both the nationally syndicated daily entertainment news program “Access” and the daily one-hour syndicated entertainment news talk show “Access Live.” FitzPatrick has previously worked on Judge Judy’s “Hot Bench,” “Daily Blast Live,” “Whose Line Is It Anyway?,” “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” and “The Dating Game.”
“Over the past several months we have been discussing the creative direction of ‘Access’ and ‘Access Live,'” Silverstein said in an internal memo. “My vision of the show moving forward differs from the management team, so we have agreed today will be my final day as Ep.”

Reese Witherspoon‘s request that reporters #AskHerMore on Sunday’s Oscar red carpet has the entertainment industry, style community and mainstream viewers sharply divided. NBC wants to breath some new life into its 19-year-old Access Hollywood show. The network has launched a daily video series of their own called Early Access on Facebook exclusively on the titular social media platform.
Early Access posts a two-minute segment every morning which takes viewers behind-the-scenes of Access Hollywood’s news and brainstorming meeting. The video segments go live on Access Hollywood’s Facebook page around 7 Am Pst.
“The only way to grow these types of shows that have matured is through social media,” said executive producer Rob K. Silverstein to Variety, who first reported on the story. Silverstein also added how he hopes Early Access engages fans to the point where they start telling the network what they want to see on the video series’ linear counterpart.

These days, TV viewers can't seem to escape Virginia Madsen.
Madsen, who made a splash in movies like "Sideways" and "Candyman," has hit the airwaves to spread the word about a couple of seemingly disparate matters of interest to women -- encouraging them, via a public service announcement, to get involved in the political process, and selling them, via a highly visible multimedia campaign from Grey, on the benefits of a popular, wrinkle-combating drug.
Allergan, manufacturer of Botox, of which Madsen is the face, partnered with the League of Women Voters on an initiative called Freedom of Expression Through Film. Playing off the Botox tagline, the drugmaker calls the public-awareness campaign "dedicated to voter education and self-expression." Madsen played a major role. Beyond the PSA, the actress crisscrossed the country on a 10-city tour this summer on behalf of the 88-year-old nonpartisan League.

Here's a shocker: Celebrity gossip is so popular -- and lucrative -- that facts need not get in the way of a juicy story.
Not exactly revelatory, but coming from a couple of top executives responsible for the dissemination of celebrity news, it might be a bit disconcerting.
"Access Hollywood" executive producer Rob Silverstein and Yahoo Entertainment Gm Sibyl Goldman agreed Wednesday that fake is almost as good as real, from the consumers' perspective.
And perspective is important. Silverstein stressed that his show's dedication to the truth is unshakable, adhering to the same guidelines as any other NBC news program. He also noted occasions where he has sacrificed an exclusive story in the interest of taking an extra day or two for confirmation.
Consumers, though, don't care so much about the accuracy of their celebrity news, as long as they can be part of the conversation.
Silverstein and Goldman were among the 30 speakers at the first EconCeleb conference Wednesday in Hollywood.
"People just want to be in the know," Silverstein said. "They want to know what others are talking about."
He said "Access Hollywood" will take advantage of all the misinformation about celebrities by debuting in September a feature it calls Tgif -- This Gossip is False.
As for Yahoo, it isn't in the business of breaking news itself, only offering it from various sources. Goldman said she has noticed that sometimes a correction or clarification of a celebrity news story is just as popular as the original, inaccurate reporting.
"Mistakes are big business," she said. "People love reading retractions."
About 200 people paid $400 apiece to attend the half-day EconCeleb, put on by ContentNext Media. Guardian Media Group, parent of U.K.'s Guardian newspaper, purchased ContentNext this month for $30 million.

Billy Bush's schedule just got a lot busier.
The "Access Hollywood" co-anchor has inked a deal with Westwood One to host a talk and music show airing weeknights in major-market radio stations nationwide. "The Billy Bush Show", debuting in April, will be produced by Bush and "Access" executive producer Rob Silverstein.
The show will focus on entertainment stories and personalities in the news and feature celebrity guests and listener calls. In conjunction with its launch, Westwood One will debut BillyBush.com, featuring exclusive content, live streams and Bush's blog, as well as opportunities for advertisers and affiliates.
Bush will continue his role as "Access" co-host, following in the footsteps of Ryan Seacrest, who hosts E!'s daily news show and has a morning radio program on KIIS-FM in Los Angeles.
"Billy has a reputation for making all the right connections, and we look forward to helping build one of his strongest -- his connection with listeners nationwide," Westwood One president and CEO Thomas Beusse said.

Sunday's SAG Awards will be the industry's first red-carpet event in this strike-fractured awards season, and even the prospect of heavy rain hasn't dampened the enthusiasm.
"Considering we don't know what's going on with the Oscars and the fact that there wasn't a red carpet at the Globes, we're pulling out all the stops," "Access Hollywood" executive producer Rob Silverstein said.
The entertainment magazines and cable outlets are ready to throw more weight behind their coverage of this year's carpet and ceremony, following the WGA strike-ravaged Golden Globes on Jan. 13 and given the Oscar uncertainty. That means the SAG Awards -- which received a waiver from the WGA -- likely will attract more hoopla than ever in their 14th year.
Among those beefing up their presence on the red carpet or increasing the amount of time they are planning to devote to the SAG Awards are syndicated TV magazines "Access Hollywood", "Entertainment Tonight", "Inside Edition" and "Extra" and cable channels E! Entertainment and TV Guide.
Said "Inside Edition" exec producer Charles Lachman: "We're definitely covering the SAG Awards more than usual. We're always interested in the event, but obviously it will have more news value this go-round because of the strike and the possibility that it might be the only big red-carpet event of the awards season. So we're going all out on it."
Both "Access" and "Inside" are increasing their presence on the red carpet with additional camera positions. "Access" also is shooting in high-definition at the SAG ceremony for the first time and is planning "stunts" backstage and on the red carpet that it normally reserves for the bigger awards shows.
Silverstein said that three-quarters of Monday's TV show likely will be devoted to the SAG Awards, depending on other breaking news. "Access" also will be streaming interviews live from the red carpet on its Web site, marking the first time it will have done so at any awards show.
Lachman said "Inside" is "doubling its resources" for its SAG Awards coverage and also will be backstage in a one-on-one room, though he said it's hard to say how much of Monday's show will be devoted to the ceremony at this point.
"Entertainment Tonight" also is ramping up its presence. Mary Hart will be hosting Monday's show for the first time from the Shrine rather than throwing to Jann Carl from the studio.
