“The first narrative anything I ever directed was the pilot for ‘Atlanta.’ And so the whole cast and crew that came together for it, a lot of us, it was our first TV experience,” remembers “Atlanta” director and producer Hiro Murai. “Finishing the show this season really felt like the senior year of high school where we just kind of watched each other grow up and we’re kind of putting a bow on this four-season experience that we got to go through together.” We talked with Murai as part of our “Meet the Experts” TV directors panel. The MCU has featured almost every A-list actor working in Hollywood from veterans like Robert Redford to up-and-coming stars like Simu Liu and Kathryn Newton. So, naturally, it’s easy to spot an MCU alum whenever you’re watching another TV show or movie — and this Emmy awards season is no different. Here are six MCU actors past and present who could be nominated for an Emmy this year.
Donald Glover — “Atlanta”
Okay, so admittedly Glover isn’t the first name you think of when you conjure up MCU actors, but he did feature in a scene with Tom Holland‘s Spider-Man in “Spider-Man: Homecoming” as Aaron Davis, who is actually the Prowler in the comics. Glover already has 10 Emmy nominations to his name and won two in 2017 for directing and starring in “Atlanta.” He’s back in contention this year for the same show and is predicted to pick...

When famed rapper Donald Glover decided to make a show about rappers, he made a lot of unconventional choices. Perhaps his strangest creative decision was casting the actor Brian Tyree Henry as a rapper, Alfred (a.k.a. Paper Boi), instead of himself. "Atlanta" features a number of songs from Paper Boi, but neither Henry nor Glover performs these raps. Believe it or not, they're written and performed by Donald Glover's brother, Stephen Glover, who is also a writer and executive producer for the series.
Donald Glover has been releasing music under the alias Childish Gambino since 2008. At the time, he was starring in Dan Harmon's live-action comedy series "Community" as Troy Barnes, an air-headed jock who peaked in high school and landed in community college.
His focus on music began to eclipse his acting and comedy after leaving the series in 2013, before combining his multitude of talents and...

Atlanta ended its four-season run on FX earlier this week, and now, executive producer and writer Stephen Glover has offered some insights into the cryptic last episode.
A comedy-drama series, the Atlanta TV show stars creator Donald Glover, Keith Stanfield, Brian Tyree Henry, and Zazie Beetz. Season four finds friends Earn (Glover), Alfred 'Paper Boi' Miles (Henry), Darius (Stanfield), and Van (Beetz) back in Atlanta. But the question is, has their hometown changed, or have they?
The previous two episodes provided some closure for Earn, Van, and Al, while the series finale focuses primarily on Darius. The episode wraps with the gang together in Alfred's apartment. Viewers are left to wonder if the events in the episode really happened or if Darius is dreaming them while in a sensory deprivation tank.

[Editor’s Note: The following review contains spoilers for “Atlanta” Season 4, Episode 10, “It Was All a Dream” — the series finale.]
Every season* of “Atlanta” starts, in one way or another, with Earn waking up. The premiere, following a flash-forward, sees Donald Glover’s lead recalling a dream next to a groggy Van (Zazie Beetz). In Season 2, subtitled “Robbin’ Season,” Earn is rudely roused by his storage unit’s owner, who evicts him from his makeshift home (while stealing some of his stuff). Even Season 3’s first entry, which dedicates 99 percent of its runtime to a story inspired by the Hart family murders, ends on a close-up of Earn’s rattled face, as he looks around his hotel room in that initial waking state of anxious confusion.
*Every season, that is, except Season 4.
The fourth and final season of “Atlanta” notably begins with Darius (Lakeith Stanfield) returning an air fryer to Target amid absolute chaos. The store is being looted.

Spoiler Alert: The story below reveals plot points from FX’s Atlanta series finale.
FX’s Atlanta came to a close Thursday night and, forgoing typical fanfare of a series finale, the episode once again does what Atlanta does best by subverting the idea of what, exactly, a series finale should even be.
Aptly titled “It Was All A Dream,” the episode sees Darius (Lakeith Stanfield) grapple with reality while in a sensory deprivation tank, which eventually calls into question the events of the entire episode. After several outlandish encounters that turn out to be dreams, Darius manages to help Earn (Donald Glover), Al (Brian Tyree Henry), and Van (Zazie Beetz) escape a Black-owned sushi restaurant after the owner tries to hold them hostage.
As the episode wraps, the core characters all share the screen together for the last time, discussing their days — but viewers are left to wonder whether...

FX’s Atlanta has delighted in messing with our minds for four seasons now, so it’s fitting that Thursday’s series finale had us feeling one last time like we were trapped inside a surreal (and hilarious) dream.
Darius is lounging on the couch watching Judge Judy while Al and Earn get ready to go eat. Darius declines their invitation to join them, though, saying he has a “dep date,” i.e., an appointment to float around in a sensory deprivation tank. (“It’s like being in the womb again,” he says with awe.) Al and Earn go eat...

A review of the Atlanta series finale, “It Was All a Dream,” coming up just as soon as I tell you how many seasons of Homeboys in Outer Space there were…
The thing about Atlanta is that the series is so fluid, and so unpredictable in terms of subject and tone, that it could have ended in almost any way, and it probably would have felt appropriate on some level. Could have been something dark, something silly, something thoughtful. Could have focused on any of the regular characters, or even...

Spoiler Alert: This interview contains spoilers from the series finale of “Atlanta,” now available on FX and Hulu.
“Atlanta” finally feels like it’s back … right as it’s ending.
When Donald Glover’s surrealist FX comedy premiered in 2016, its mix of high-stakes and stoner comedy sensibilities earned it instant acclaim. By the second season in 2018, the show was being discussed as one of the greats of television history (though comparisons to “The Sopranos” were mostly started by Glover himself). But after a four-year hiatus due to delays both Covid-related and otherwise, “Atlanta” came back as a different show. Season 3 took place almost entirely in Europe, with several one-off episodes that didn’t feature any of the main characters, and while Season 4 returned to Georgia, Earn (Glover), Alfred (Brian Tyree Henry) and Van (Zazie Beetz) are different people than they were before.

“Atlanta,” which will air its final episode Nov. 10 on FX, is going out as a deeply strong and well-made show. And if it no longer quite feels like the major one it did in its early going, that suits it well, too.
This observation deserves clarifying, because I don’t mean to slight the work of series lead and driving creative force Donald Glover, or collaborators including frequent director Hiro Murai. But in the time since “Atlanta” first aired in 2016 — and, crucially, the years of its extended hiatus, from when it left the air in 2018 to its return earlier this year — the ground shifted around it. In its first two seasons, “Atlanta” looked like nothing else on television. That’s less true now. And the show’s return, with two new seasons both airing in 2022, felt muted in part because of its outlandish creativity: Its pointillistic portrait of the world of Earn,...

A review of this week’s Atlanta, “Andrew Wyeth, Alfred’s World,” coming up just as soon as I blame DeSoto for this bullshit…
After a one-week detour into extremely goofy territory, Atlanta returns to the main cast — and, for that matter, to the woods — for “Andrew Wyeth, Alfred’s World.” The title is a riff on Wyeth’s famous painting “Christina’s World,” depicting a neighbor of Wyeth’s crawling towards the house in the stark landscape. Late in the episode, we even see director Hiro Murai stage his...

FX's "Atlanta" is known for throwing viewers a curveball or two, but the show's reputation for unpredictable twists is why many will miss it after it concludes its final season this fall. Over the course of four seasons, the critically acclaimed series has turned itself into must-see TV for its bold innovation and sharp comedy, but the show's surprise guest appearances every now and then have also become a fan-favorite trend.
Though some episodes of "Atlanta" have faked viewers out with teases of appearances from folks like D'Angelo and Tupac and even made big moments out of its signature characters like Donald Glover's Teddy Perkins, the actual stars who have been seen in the series are always a real treat. Even those who were originally slated to guest-star on "Atlanta" have been a surprise for viewers.

A review of this week’s Atlanta, “Snipe Hunt,” coming up just as soon as I prank my daughter…
Early in “Snipe Hunt,” as Earn and Van are setting up the campsite where the two of them and Lottie will celebrate Lottie’s birthday, Van realizes that Earn bought a tent that’s much too big for the three of them to sleep in on a cold night. A review of this week’s Atlanta, “Crank Dat Killer,” coming up just as soon as I have a safe farm…
It feels strange to describe an episode like this, built around an active shooter situation, as a relatively light one for Atlanta, yet dammit if “Crank Dat Killer” doesn’t feel exactly that. Spoiler Alert: Do not read if you haven’t watched “Crank Dat Killer,” Season 4, Episode 6 of “Atlanta.”
In 2006 and 2007, Atlanta was experiencing a renaissance.
A renaissance of snap music, to be specific. The city was already producing hits like Dem Franchise Boyz’s “Lean Wit It, Rock Wit It” and D4L’s “Laffy Taffy.” Then, Soulja Boy released his debut single Crank That (Soulja Boy)” just as the concept of YouTube virality was coming into existence, prompting thousands of Atlantans to create their own versions — from “Crank Dat Yank” to “Crank Dat Roosevelt” to a “Super Mario” version — while the rest of the country watched.
In Season 4, Episode 6 of “Atlanta,” headlines are warning Atlantans about the Crank Dat Killer, a serial killer targeting anyone and everyone who made a “Crank Dat” video back in the day. Alfred aka Paper Boi (Brian Tyree Henry) realizes his old “Crank Dat Jimmy Neutron...

A show about a down-on-his-luck college dropout and his rapper cousin navigating the music industry as the latter’s star rises; created by a multi-hyphenate who, at one point, was a full-time rapper himself; set in what many might argue was the rap capital of the United States for most of the past decade…
You’d think Donald Glover’s FX series “Atlanta” would be a cakewalk for song placements — license a few Migos, Young Thug and Gucci Mane tracks and call it a day — but music supervisors Jen Malone and Fam Udeorji are anything but paint-by-numbers.
While musically, the series pays ample homage to its titular hometown, the pair has worked closely with Glover and the rest of the show’s writers room throughout its four-season run — coming to an end in November — to establish a musical palette that simultaneously reflects Atlanta while also expanding far beyond the city limits.

After working with director David Leitch on Deadpool 2, Beetz gladly accepted his offer to reunite for a small yet memorable appearance as “The Hornet” in Bullet Train, which boasts Brad Pitt as the lead of a talented ensemble cast. Here is a wrap-up of all the news you need to know from Tuesday, August 2, 2022.
FX's turn at the Television Critics Association paved the way for some announcements about new and returning series.
We already reported on the casting of Elisabeth Moss on The Veil.
We also learned that American Horror Story Season 11 will receive its premiere in fall 2022.
There had been some questions about whether the series would return this year, given the lack of updates.
However, we should expect more concrete details about the big season in the coming weeks, including casting details and a confirmed premiere date.
The last season featured two stories -- Red Tide and Death Valley.
The former won praise from longtime fans, but the latter struggled to find its footing.
Spinoff American Horror Stories currently airs Thursdays on FX on Hulu.
As someone critical of the first season, the second is a breath of fresh air.

"Atlanta" is going back to its roots for the show's fourth and final season, but things aren't at all the way we left them back in the city. FX released the season four trailer on Aug. 2. From the looks of it, Earn (Donald Glover), Paper Boi (Brian Tyree Henry), Darius (Lakeith Stanfield), and Van (Zazie Beetz) were hoping to return from their European quest to see their hometown unchanged, but, of course, that's not the case. "Atlanta" manages to sprinkle in some strange and awkward new encounters, as only the show can. Despite appearances from familiar faces like Earn's uncle Willy (played by Katt Williams), it's clear Atlanta is not what it used to be.
The critically acclaimed dramedy is ending this September after season four. On July 22, FX released a short video to announce the final season's premiere before confirming its premiere date in the new trailer.

But as they reacclimate to their surroundings, a question is raised. Has Atlanta changed or have they? (Credit: FX) That sense of uncertainty looms as Earn, Paper Boi, Darius, and Van walk through their lives in the city they used to know so well. In “Atlanta” season three, we saw a side of the gang we’d never seen before: out of their element and fish out of water. Season three of “Atlanta” found “Earn” (Donald Glover), “Alfred’ Paper Boi’ Miles” (Brian Tyree Henry), “Darius” (Lakeith Stanfield), and “Van” (Zazie Beetz) in the midst of a successful European tour, as the group navigated their new surroundings as outsiders, and struggle to adjust to the newfound success they had aspired to.

The hit FX series "Atlanta" is back for a final season, and they've just dropped a trailer and premiere release date. The sharp, often scary satire will return to FX on September 15, 2022, and will be available to stream on Hulu. The series follows young music producer Earn (Donald Glover), his on-and-off girlfriend Van (Zazie Beetz), his rapper cousin Alfred (Brian Tyree-Henry), and Alfred's oddball friend Darius (Lakeith Stanfield) and has been praised by critics and audiences alike for its raw and surreal portrayal of life as a Black American. The end is nigh for FX’s “Atlanta.” The fourth and final season of Donald Glover’s critically acclaimed comedy series will premiere on Sept. 15.
The network also released a trailer for Season 4, which you can watch above. In the trailer, Earn (Glover) and his friends have returned to their hometown after touring Europe and now must determine: has Atlanta changed, or have they?
The trailer offers glimpses at what’s in store for the season, though with “Atlanta” it’s always hard to tell exactly what direction the show will take us. Earn and Van (Zazie Beetz) appear to be working on their relationship after some discord in Europe, and Alfred “Paper Boi” Miles (Brian Tyree Henry) is continuing to advance his rap career stateside. Lakeith Stanfield is also back as Darius, making as trusty (yet confusing) a sidekick as ever.

“Atlanta” is about to change for good.
Donald Glover confirmed that the fourth and final season of his hit FX series “Atlanta” will be set in its namesake city after a Season 3 voyage across Europe. The teaser for Season 4 hinted that Earn (Glover) finds some type of happily ever after with his on-again, off-again love interest Van (Zazie Beetz) while putting out fires from international rap star Alfred aka Paper Boi (Brian Tyree Henry) and pal Darius (Lakeith Stanfield).
“Atlanta” creator, writer, producer, director, and star Glover revealed during the 2022 TCAs that Season 4 will address the ever-looming existential question: “Do people matter?” While the upcoming season, premiering September 15, will be the most grounded of the experimental series, the arc will “explore people more than we have before.”
“Atlanta” executive producer Stephen Glover added that the “legacy” of the series will be about experimentation.

The fourth and final season of “Atlanta,” the comedy series from creator, showrunner and star Donald Glover, will premiere with two episodes on Sept. 15 at 10 p.m. before streaming on Hulu the next day. The news was announced during FX’s presentation at the 2022 virtual TCA Press Tour.
Season 3 was a controversial installment of an already discourse-generating show, especially for its several standalone episodes, such as opener “Three Slaps,” which told a self-contained story about characters with no ties to the main plot.
“We know you hated them. It’s fine,” Donald Glover laughed during the panel. “I’m really proud of those episodes.”
“Those episodes felt, for a lot of people, out of the way we do things. But for me, it’s kind of like we’ve always done stuff like that,” added Stephen Glover, Donald’s brother who also writes and executive produces for the series. “In...

After going almost four years between seasons two and three, FX’s Atlanta will now release seasons three and four within a few months.
The Disney-owned cable network has set a September premiere for the fourth and final season of Donald Glover’s Emmy-winning series (with a specific date still to be announced). The premiere will come about four months after the last episode of season three aired on May 10.
FX also released a teaser for the final season — though it’s light on any kind of story details and heavy on surreal imagery, from a piano falling from the sky to a striped alligator scaling the wall of a liquor store. (Watch it below.)

Donald Glover is bringing it “back to the A” for the fourth and final time.
The “Atlanta” creator, writer, producer, director, and star debuted a first look at “Atlanta: The Final Season,” coming to FX and Hulu this September. The teaser shows Glover reprise his role of Earn, side-by-side with on-again, off-again love interest Van (Zazie Beetz) as pals Alfred aka Paper Boi (Brian Tyree Henry) and Darius (Lakeith Stanfield) pop up alongside them.
The foursome are walking underwater in a surreal return to Atlanta after spending Season 3 abroad for Alfred’s rap tour. An alligator transforms into a striped chameleon, perhaps a nod to the famed “Alligator Man” episode, and possessions are rendered invisible…that is, except for Alfred’s silver microphone, which he drops as Earn disappears into the floor and the rest walk away.

FX dropped the Season 4 teaser trailer on Friday, hinting at a final installment that is just as head-scratching and entertaining as all the rest. Following the Season 3 rollout this past spring, Glover’s “Atlanta” will be premiering its final season in September.
In the final season’s 45-second teaser, Earn (Donald Glover), Paper Boi (Brian Tyree Henry), Darius (Lakeith Stanfield) and Van (Zazie Beetz) all return to the liquor store seen in the first season, flashing back to an episode from 2016. While the teaser gathered these four characters, it doesn’t offer many hints of what is to come in the fourth installment.
