"If anybody's listening, please say something." Mill House Motion Pictures has released a festival teaser trailer for the indie contained sci-fi thriller film The Abandon, made by filmmaker Jason Satterlund. This will be premiering at the upcoming 2022 Mammoth Film Festival in just a few weeks, playing as the Closing Night film. It seems to be a combination of two other sci-fi films - Source Code and Cube. A wounded soldier awakens in a strange cube that tests his physical and mental limits as he attempts to find a way to escape against a ticking clock. The cube room begins to change: fluctuating extreme temperatures, random shifts of gravity, and strange writing appearing on the walls. Starring Jonathan Rosenthal, with Tamara Perry as the voice of the woman on the phone. From this teaser my guess is he's in some sort of coma or machine to keep him alive, kind of like Source Code.

Exclusive: The fourth annual Mammoth Film Festival will return to kick off its fourth edition February 3 with a double opening-night screening: the Nina Dobrev-directed short The One in her helming debut followed by the world premiere of the Emile Hirsch-Kate Bosworth psychological thriller The Immaculate Room.
The fest, set in the resort town of Mammoth Lakes nestled in California’s Sierra Nevada mountains, will run in-person February 3-6. Last year’s edition was not held because of the pandemic.
Written and directed by Mukunda Michael Dewil with Joel David Moore among its producers, Immaculate Room centers on a couple that takes part in a psychological experiment that will reward them with $5 million if they can stay in a perfectly white room for 30 days. Ashley Greene Khoury also stars in the pic, from Productivity Media Pictures, Balcony 9 Productions and K5 Films.

"The Empire doesn't know we're here. And they never will." While we wait for the official Obi-Wan Kenobi series Lucasfilm is developing there's an outstanding fan film to watch. Kenobi is a beautifully realized 18-minute short about Ben Kenobi living on Tatooine. Similar to the upcoming series, the film is about Ben protecting Luke when he's young, living in the desert watching over him from afar. Jamie Costa stars as Kenobi, with a cast including Tommy Snider as Owen Lars, Maxine Phoenix as Beru, Audie Rick as Luke, and James Arnold Taylor as Captain Leegus. This short has a lovely score, some great FX, and a fantastic performance by Costa. Highly recommend watching. Thanks to Kottke for the tip on this one. "How does it feel to be alone? I've taken everyone you love. This time you won't forget me." Meet another Jedi in this new fan-made short film set within the Star Wars universe. Star Wars: The Force And The Fury is a short by Jason Satterlund telling the story of a Jedi who crash lands on a mysterious planet. There he encounters a Sith who seems to know him. I won't spoil the rest, but it's refreshing to see such impressive storytelling in a Star Wars fan film. Two other things I love about this: 1) that we finally see a female Sith going bad, and 2) the blue lightsaber has a hilt like an actual samurai sword, nice little nod to actual sabers. Thanks to Live for Films for the tip on this. Original description from YouTube: "A Jedi crash lands on a barren planet and is pursued by a mysterious...
