"The goal for me, always, is try to make a movie that feels timeless, that people will watch years from now," said "Mrs. Doubtfire" director Chris Columbus in a recent interview with Ktvu.
The character of Mrs. Doubtfire actually has her roots in a real person -- not a recently-divorced father pulling a desperate gambit to see more of his kids, but the owner of a second hand clothing shop in Edinburgh. The shop was called Madame Doubtfire and, colloquially, so was its owner, though her name after remarrying was Annabella Coutts. She was something of a local legend, with one Edinburgh resident recalling that she had "about half a dozen cats" and that while her shop was an excellent resource for high-quality second hand goods,...

To those of us that love it, the 1993 dramedy "Mrs. Doubtfire" is a touchstone and a classic. It's pure nostalgia fuel, and it certainly reminds me of a simpler time in my own childhood. In the same breath, the film's perfect balance of comedy and drama was the perfect vehicle through which to tell a really heart-wrenching story, and made everything about the movie—from the characters to the punchlines to the incredible makeup work—that much more memorable. Before any of us got to see the film, the late Robin Williams knew there was more there than your average comedy.
In the 2018 biography "Robin" by Dave Itzkoff, Williams revealed that the best part of getting to become "this sweet, blue-mouthed old woman" named Euphegenia was playing "someone totally unlike myself." The actor added, "It isn't just drag. It's the fact that it was like, to be, to have this...

Pierce Brosnan has revealed how Robin Williams saved one of his most dreaded Mrs Doubtfire scenes.
The actors starred together in the 1994 comedy, which was directed by Chris Columbus, with former Bond star Brosnan reflecting on the experience in a new interview.
Discussing his past credits in a recent interview with GQ, Brosnan, who will next be seen in Black Adam, spoke specifically about a scene in the film in which he has a lime lobbed at the back of his head by Williams’s character, Daniel Hillard, while he is carrying a drinks tray.
Hillard does this after Brosnan’s character, Stu, the new boyfriend of his ex-wife (Sally Field), calls him “a loser” under his breath.
Explaining what happened to Stu, Hillard says: “Oh sir, I saw it! Some angry member of the kitchen staff – did you not tip them? Oh, the terrorist, they ran that way; it was a run-by fruiting.

Pierce Brosnan was two years out from making his long-awaited debut as James Bond in "GoldenEye" when he took on the thankless role of Stu Dunmeyer in "Mrs. Doubtfire." Stu is the handsome, charismatic new boyfriend of Sally Field's Miranda Hillard, who's filed for divorce from her overgrown child of a husband, Daniel Hillard, played by Robin Williams. The film is obviously a showcase for Williams, who transforms Daniel into an elderly British nanny so he can spend time with his children. This leaves Brosnan to play straight man, which he does remarkably well, but it's a bit like using a Lamborghini to haul furniture.
Brosnan, like just about everyone else who had the pleasure of acting alongside Williams, found his co-star to be ceaselessly inventive. And one scene he'll never forget finds the comedic dynamo pegging him in the back of the head with a lime.
A Poolside Humiliation
