Fans of The National, Bob’s Burgers and, well, gravy, you are in for a treat: The Fox comedy has animated the Brooklyn indie rockers singing “Sailors in Your Mouth,” the wistful ode to the savory sauce that was heard in Sunday’s Thanksgiving episode. That wasn’t the first time that the band and Bob’s Burgers bonded: The National contributed a rendition of “Kill Your Turkey” to last year’s Thanksgiving episode, and Bob’s Burgers writer Scott Jacobson directed the video for The National’s “Conversation 16,” which stars… Bob’s voice actor Kristen Schaal.

God bless the recent renaissance of funny music videos. If artists are going to spend a bunch of money making something that will never air on TV, then they might as well make something the Internet will love and laugh over, right? Nick Lowe drew from the ha-ha pile for his new video for “Sensitive Man,” which is a track off of his latest record, The Old Magic. Lowe and Director Scott Jacobson recruited some comedy A- and B-listers like Marc Maron, The Venture Brothers’ James Urbaniak, and Tim Heidecker, as well as musical heavy hitters like Robyn Hitchcock and ...

British rock stalwart Nick Lowe hadn't made a music video in 18 years, but in producing a video for his new song "Sensitive Man," which premiered today on NPR.org, Lowe went an unusual route -- casting a bunch of American comedians.
Lowe, whose colorful life in rock-and-roll includes producing Elvis Costello's first five albums, marrying a daughter of June Carter Cash and penning the hit "Cruel to be Kind," released his latest album "This Old Magic" to favorable reviews in late 2011.
"Sensitive Man" was directed by Scott Jacobson, who formerly wrote for "Daily Show" and currently works on "Bob's Burgers." Jacobson took a similar route by casting comedians in other very funny, yet quietly sad videos he directed for The National and Stephen Malkmus & The Jicks, among others.
This video opens with a conversation between Maria Thayer and Marc Maron (who recently interviewed Lowe on "Wtf"), introducing the idea...

Here's the video for Stephen Malkmus and The Jicks' Mirror Traffic single, "Senator," starring Jack Black as a perfectly bad senator. He may snort coke compulsively and get himself off with a cattle prod, but that doesn't mean he can't hold adorable babies to win over America! Director (and "Bob's Burgers" writer) Scott Jacobsen, raved to Spin about the two semi-icons on set:
Jack Black showed up and put in a 12-hour day that encompassed everything from genital-shocking to a real (unplanned) dog bite to full-on nudity. I am a fan for life. And Malkmus was gracious and helpful and insanely cool. As a Pavement and Jicks fan from way back, I felt completely fulfilled.
We're liking the slow pacing of the track, which showcases Malkmus' dry songwriting with the flat refrain ("I know what the senator wants, what the senator wants is a blow job"). In another interview with Spin,...

The creators of Squidbillies sure do have a lot to hoop and holler about, given the absurdist show is in its sixth year, with an impending sixth season due out on September 11th, 2011.
But what might really get creators Dave Willis and Jim Fortier firing guns in the air? How about the release of Squidbillies: Volume 4 on DVD? Say, isn't that the same DVD we're giving away today?
Starting June 21st 2011, fans can own the DVD, which features the entire ten episodes and a slew of bonus material from the the fifth season. From the official press release:
It’s mayhem time! The 'billies are crazier and more dysfunctional than ever and their antics will be documented on DVD in the Adult Swim release of Squidbillies Volume 4 on June 21, 2011. Everyone’s favorite (and maybe the only) inbred hillbilly squids are up to their usual reckless ways, getting into trouble...

In his new book, Your Wildest Dreams, Within Reason (Tin House Books), Vanity Fair reporter-researcher Mike Sacks assembles 55 laugh-out-loud pieces, with a little help from fellow humor writers, including Scott Jacobson, Ted Travelstead, and Scott Rothman. The collection of eclectic essays—which were first published in Vanity Fair, The New Yorker, Vice, Esquire, and McSweeney’s—incorporates Craigslist ads, letters to famous authors, and the occasional list. In the excerpt below, Sacks runs down the surefire signs (“orientation includes chemical delousing”) that your college is not very prestigious. Listen to the podcast after the jump.

Here’s proof that every once in a while you can meet your heroes and they turn out to be just as great as you’d hoped. When my friend, comedy writer (and sometimes Vf.com contributor) Scott Jacobson, asked me to come down to North Carolina to be in a Superchunk video, I didn’t hesitate. The band was gearing up to release their first new record in nine years (Majesty Shredding, out tomorrow) and Jacobson, who’s friends with the band and also, like them, a North Carolina native, was slated to direct the video for their first single, “Digging For Something.” When everything was said and done, it was all the fun I’d hoped for—I worked with a super-nice band, a terrific director, and Bonus: it’s a rocking song. A humorous (and fictitious!) account of what the band have been up to since their...
