Neil Gaiman’s fantasy novel Anansi Boys is heading to the sequential art world of comics.
The 2005 novel, a New York Times best-seller that won the Locus and British Fantasy Awards, is being adapted by Dark Horse Comics, which has set screenwriter and comics author Marc Bernardin to pen what will be an eight-issue miniseries.
Shawn Martinbrough, perhaps best known as the longtime artist of the Robert Kirkman title Thief of Thieves as well as Marvel’s Luke Cage Noir, is drawing the book, which will have colors by Chris Sotomayor and letters by Jim Campbell. The first issue is due to hit stores June 26.
The novel told the travails of “Fat” Charlie Nancy, who leads a boring life as a boring Londoner until he discovers two things: that his recently deceased father was, in fact, Anansi, the trickster god of African folklore, and that he has a twin brother he’s never met.

This review is based off a volume that collects Punisher: Trial of the Punisher #1-2, Bullseye: Perfect Game #1-2 and material from Daredevil #500.
It’s not very often that I get to review a trade paperback that’s an anthology in the purest sense, so I find myself most fortunate that this one – Punisher & Bullseye: Deadliest Hits – focuses heavily on one of my favorite Marvel characters, Frank Castle.
Before delving into the content itself, I can’t help but voice my bewilderment as to why the co-headliners were even paired for this compilation. I mean, this isn’t a Punisher vs. Bullseye book by any stretch of the imagination. If anything, Daredevil is the connecting thread here, as he does appear in each story in some capacity. In fact, they could’ve easily put his name on this book, which may have even boosted sales.
But, there are various factors to consider,...

The Dream Killer series continues next week.
I was attending The Pratt Institute and needed all the bank I could get. Pratt’s one of the world’s great art schools and cheap it was not. I had to come up with most of the tuition because no one talked to me about how financial aid went away if grades fall below a C.
I was a poor black kid from the projects talks like that rarely happen in inner cities. Those lucky enough to raise above our assigned station in life have to fend for ourselves. Our talks revolve around staying away from drugs, gangs, and cops.
American families middle class or above think nothing of seemingly little things like dad or mom talking to them at dinner about their college life.
Mum: My dear sweet Reginal you’ve many things to look forward to while at college!

So we all get together, we break story, and then we divide that story up into story arcs and we break off and then we write those story arcs. Robert Kirkman, co-creator of The Walking Dead, has been working a lot in television lately, with the huge success of AMC’s adaptation of The Walking Dead. But unlike a lot of comics writers who go into TV, Kirkman is coming back to his beloved field of sequential art with some tricks he picked up out in La-La Land and applying them with vigor.
Thief of Thieves, Kirkman’s most recent comics creation (and in this writer’s opinion, definitely his finest), is about a master thief who sets about retiring from the game, only to get pulled back in. Kirkman, acting as a sort of executive producer, outlined the broad strokes of the series, and brought in young buck Nick Spencer to handle scripting duties on the first arc. And now, continuing this collaborative scheme, writer James Asmus has been announced, via The Hollywood Reporter, as scripting the next arc.

"Walking Dead" fans, if you find that your attention's gone missing, look no further than creator Robert Kirkman himself — he may have just stolen it from you with his new television project for AMC, "Thief of Thieves."
"Thieves," based on the comic book of the same name, is currently in development at AMC, marking the second Kirkman title to aim for the small screen following the comic book scribe's already hugely successful zombie epic. Created by Kirkman and featuring a creative team including Nick Spencer and Shawn Martinbrough, "Thieves" centers on Conrad Paulson, a master thief who steals from other criminals in an effort to right the wrongs of his past — a premise that should fit right at home at AMC, as the network already houses a host of morally ambiguous "heroes" including Don Draper and Walter White of "Mad Men" and "Breaking Bad" fame.

With everyone from frat boys to soccer moms clearing their Sunday nights to watch “The Walking Dead," AMC is clearly enjoying their investment in creator/writer Robert Kirkman's zombie hit, and are now seeking to continue that success with an adaptation of another Kirkman comic property.
According to Deadline, AMC is starting development on “Thief of Thieves,” based off a recent comic series from Kirkman and Chic Eglee, who will act as showrunner for the adaptation. Written by Nick Spencer and drawn by Shawn Martinbrough, the comic and series follows Conrad Paulson, a master thief seeking a way out of his profession to be there for his ex-wife and estranged child. Once he manages to break free, however, he finds the thrill that the job provides essential, and so he returns to claim riches from other burglars flush with wealth.
In a recent statement, Kirkman explained his reasons for the show.

AMC is preparing to develop a TV series adaptation of Walking Dead creator Robert Kirkman’s new produced comic book, “Thief of Thieves”.
According to Deadline, the show will be a series of heist stories, described by Kirkman as follows: “Much like The Walking Dead brought horror to television in a unique and groundbreaking way, I feel Thief of Thieves can do the same thing for heist stories, showing the humanity of all the characters, including the criminals.”
The story “centers on master thief Conrad Paulson who, while attempting to reconcile with his estranged wife and son, vows to walk the straight and narrow, only to discover he’s completely addicted to the thrill of stealing. Now he must feed his addiction by stealing only what has been stolen, as the Thief of Thieves.”

The Hollywood Reporter says that Kirkman is developing a second show for AMC based on the heist comic book, Thief of Thieves he’s producing at Image Comics under his Skybound imprint. Issue #3 of Thief of Thieves is out today and is about a seasoned veteran thief, Conrad Paulson who decides to steal items already stolen to redeem himself to win back the approval of his wife and son for his addiction for illegal activity.

All-Winners Squad. Alpha Flight. Destroyers. Ghost Rider. Iron Man 2.0. Victor Von Doom. X-23. And now Comic Book Resources report, Black Panther: The Most Dangerous Man Alive. What do all these comic books have in common? They've all been cancelled by Marvel. Some remain unfinished, others never published, but the latest casualty by David Liss is a book which has been met with a positive reaction from fans and critics alike. The former King of Wakanda took over the title after the events of Shadowland and launched last December, maintaining the numbering of Daredevil and originally keeping "The Man Without Fear" tagline. With art by Francesco Francavilla, Shawn Martinbrough and Michael Avon Oeming, the book has been a visual treat, while award winning author David Liss has crafted some fantastic stories over the past year. I actually spoke to the writer when the book launched, and he was clearly...

We hold in our hands the covers for DC Comics this February. As a child of four can plainly see, these comics have been hermetically sealed in a Cgc 9.9 slab, and they’ve been kept in a #2 mayonnaise jar under a giant stack of returned copies of Holy Terror since noon today.
What do we have worth noting? The new look of Darkseid, and we’re far enough into the new 52 books that it’s time for Batman to start crossing over in all of them. Plus Mara Jade, the red-haired assassin who fell in love with her blond-haired man she was sent to kill– oh, I’m sorry, that’s from Star Wars. This is Mera in a jade outfit. Our mistake.
Shall we? Surely!
As usual, spoilers may lurk beyond this point.

The 2010 Glyph Comics Awards were handed out Friday night at this weekend's East Coast Black Age of Comics Con. The awards honor "the best in comics made by, for, and about people of color."
Jay Potts and his blaxploitation webcomic World of Hurt took three of the ten awards. Aya: The Secrets Come Out and Luke Cage Noir each took two awards, while The K Chronicles by Keith Knight won for best comic strip for the fourth time in five years. Last year's big winner, Jeremy Love's Bayou, and our own The Original Johnson by Trevor Von Eeden were nominated for several awards but were shut out. (And yes, it was a honor just to be nominated, particularly against a field like this.)
The complete list of winners includes:
Story of the Year: Unknown Soldier #13-14; Joshua Dysart, writer, Pat Masioni, artistBest Writer: Alex Simmons, Archie & FriendsBest Artist: Jay Potts,...

Warner Bros. recently released a new theatrical poster for director Sylvain White's The Losers and now it has unleashed a set of similarly-themed character posters. Though the overall effect is different, the new posters seem to borrow the "splatter effect" used in Lionsgate's recent set of Kick-Ass character posters.
Each of the new The Losers posters introduces a member of the misfit team of ex-covert operatives by code name and specialty: Idris Elba as Rogue, "demo and tactical"; Columbus Short as Pooch, "transpo and heavy weps"; Chris Evans as Jensen, "comms and tech"; Óscar Jaenada as Cougar, "long-range eliminations"; Jeffrey Dean Morgan as Clay, "operational control"; and, Zoe Saldana as Aisha, "search and destroy."
The Losers is adapted from the DC Comics title of the same name by writer Andy Diggle and artists Jock and Shawn Martinbrough. Jason Patric also stars.
Next Showing: The Losers opens April 23

Comic book movie fans are treated to two new posters for movies based on comic book properties this week, one from each of the "Big Two" comic book publishers. First up, a new poster for director Sylvain White's The Losers, based on the DC Comics graphic novel of the same name by writer Andy Diggle and artists Jock and Shawn Martinbrough. This is the second official poster released for The Losers and, like the first poster, it looks like a comic book cover come to life.
Unlike most comic book-inspired movies, there are no superheroes, special powers, tights, or capes in The Losers. Instead, the story focuses on a group of former CIA black-ops operatives who seek revenge against their former handler after being betrayed and left for dead. Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Zoe Saldana, Chris Evans, Idris Elba, Óscar Jaenada, Columbus Short, and Jason Patric star. The Losers opens April 23rd.

In the hardcover collection out now, written by Mike Benson and Adam Glass, and featuring art by Shawn Martinbrough, Marvel Comics’ Luke Cage Noir re-imagines the superhero Cage in 1920s Harlem, where he returns, after being incarcerated at Riker’s Island, to find that his ex-lover is dead, and a wealthy white socialite wants him to bring his own spouse’s murderer to justice.
“For Luke Cage Noir, it was great to be able to design Cage to look more sophisticated in 1920s attire but still make him fashionable by today’s standards. It was also great to give Luke Cage hair. Today, the standard look for black characters seems to be bald with a goatee,” said Martinbrough, who’s African American by the way.
Martinbrough is also thinking about crafting a retro Black Panther Noir series.
Let’s see if any movie producer jumps on a Luke Cage Noir film adaptation.

Warner Bros. publicity department is in high gear. On the heels of releasing new promo art for A Nightmare on Elm Street, Clash of the Titans, and Legend of the Guardians, the studio has now released the first teaser poster for The Losers.
It's a fairly faithful rendition of the cover of the DC Comics graphic novel by writer Andy Diggle and artists Jock and Shawn Martinbrough that inspired the movie, which seems to be a message to comic book fans that the movie will be true to the source material.
Directed by Sylvain White (Stomp the Yard), the Losers stars Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Zoe Saldana, Chris Evans, Idris Elba, Óscar Jaenada, and Columbus Short as "The Losers," a group of former CIA black-ops operatives who seek revenge against their former handler (played by Jason Patric) after being betrayed and left for dead.
