In November of 1993, writer/director John Lafia (Child’s Play 2) unleashed Cujo Cocaine Bear (great punk band name) upon the world with Man’s Best Friend. In the movie, a Tibetan Mastiff named Max 3000 is released from a genetic research facility by a reporter named Lori (Breakfast Club’s Ally Sheedy) while trying to expose a company for their cruel experiments on animals. We eventually learn that while Max might look like the best boy ever, he has a lot more in common with Wesley Snipes’ Simon Phoenix character from Demolition Man than he does Lassie.
While in the lab’s care, Max has been experimented on and genetically enhanced with the DNA of a slew of dangerous animals. For example, if threatened he can camouflage himself with the colors of your garage and hide there like a chameleon before deciding to pop out and bite your dick off. He has super strength,...

Living screen legend Robert De Niro became uncharacteristically verklempt while discussing his newborn daughter in an interview this week, telling AARP that parenting his baby girl is “wondrous.”
“I’m an 80-year-old dad and it’s great,” De Niro told the magazine for its latest cover story. “Everything that I’m consumed with or worried about… this and that… just goes away when I look at her.”
At that point in the sit-down, which mostly covered De Niro’s seven-decade-spanning career, working with Martin Scorsese and their latest, the Oscar-nominated Killers of the Flower Moon, the veteran actor and nine-time Oscar contender began to tear up. “That in itself is wondrous.”
De Niro, traditionally affable but solidly stoic while discussing his life and work, then quickly composed himself as he shared details about his growing bond with his baby girl; he even compared the experience to time with the daughter...

The new animated film Leo feels like a passion project for Adam Sandler, who gave it his all, even though it was just through his voice, to bring a lizard alive on the screen. A lizard of all animals! Sure, there has been Rango, where Rango was a chameleon, but he could at least change colors! A lizard just sounds off for some reason, and here Sandler voices, not a young lizard but a 74-year-old one who wants to see the world, with probably just a year left before it croaks. And yet there is a heartwarming story here, where the lizard named Leo becomes the reason why the lives of fifth graders change for the better. Some stories have a plot that is perhaps too grim to be dealt with directly, and this is where children’s stories come in. Sometimes, they can harbor great themes that even lengthy...

In Martin Scorsese‘s Killers of the Flower Moon, the crime lord, William King Hale (Robert De Niro), spanks his nephew, Ernest Burkhart (Leonardo DiCaprio), in a shocking scene.
“I don’t think that was in the first script,” Rodrigo Prieto said during a recent interview with Insider. “That was something that was added, and it’s shocking in the film.'”
This scene was also not in the original 2017 non-fiction book by David Grann on which the film was based, Killers of the Flower Moon: The Osage Murders and the Birth of the FBI.
The spanking scene occurs in the second act. During this part of the film, Hale is upset with Burkhart for ruining a part of their plan to kill the rich Osage family of his wife, Mollie Kyle (Lily Gladstone).

Who on earth would want to release a horror movie in November?! That’s like showing up to Thanksgiving dinner on a full stomach or going for a jog after a marathon. Surely, studios don’t purposefully plan to release their movie during the four weeks After the entire world is consumed with the dead, dying, maimed and dismembered, right? The calendar says spooky season is over (although you and I know differently) and as the grumpy neighbor in Halloween II says, the general audience has “been trick or treated to death” by October’s end.
On the contrary, November Horror has had some shockingly great runs over the years. And maybe there’s a method to the madness. If horror fans are lucky, October is packed tighter than a Black Friday sale at Target during a live in store Taylor Swift performance. Why not wait a couple of weeks...

This weekend saw the celebrity death match battle between two icons. In one corner is an icon of the stage with the filmed version of her tour which is the highest grossing music tour of all time. In the other corner is an icon of cinema who has created some of the greatest films ever made. So who would reign supreme? Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour saw a 67% decline for a still respectable $31 million in her second weekend of release to claim first place, while Martin Scorsese’s three and a half hour epic Killers of the Flower Moon took in a solid $23 million for a second place bow. Those numbers fall pretty much in line with where we saw them in our Thursday predictions.

“Killers of the Flower Moon,” directed by the legendary Martin Scorsese, serves as a cinematic beacon, illuminating the dark and often neglected chapter of American history involving the Osage Nation in Oklahoma. The film, based on David Grann‘s nonfiction bestseller, not only unravels a chilling tale of greed and racial injustice but also brings to light the contemporary challenges of preserving historical truth.

In our Thursday predictions we asked the question: Can the power of Scorsese, DeNiro & DiCaprio take down Taylor Swift? Well, the numbers have begun rolling in for this weekend and the short answer is: no! Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour is looking at a second weekend take in the $32 million range, which would represent a decline between 60-70%. Despite that type of drop, the film is still a massive success, with fans ranging from your average “Swiftie” to Oppenheimer director Christopher Nolan.
Coming in second place is Martin Scorsese’s passion project Killers of the Flower Moon which is looking at an opening weekend in the mid $20 million range. For a $200 million budgeted film, that number is not that great, but this is one of those rare box office runs where the actual number doesn’t really matter. Sure, if the movie was an absolute bomb, that may make some headlines,...

The following post contains spoilers about "Killers of the Flower Moon."
The horrors inflicted upon the Osage people during a string of ghastly murders throughout the 1920s are among the worst atrocities ever committed against Indigenous Americans. Anyone familiar with U.S. history during the Old West will know that's saying a lot. Based upon the 2017 book by David Grann, director Martin Scorsese's "Killers of the Flower Moon" uncovers the systematic infiltration of nefarious white men into the lives and affairs of the Indigenous Osage Nation after vast deposits of oil were found on their land. The enormous wealth the Osage possessed led to a string of mysterious deaths that were always deemed accidental or never investigated in the first place.

In the 1920s, the people of the Osage Nation became the richest people on earth after oil was discovered under their supposedly worthless land. The money drew ambitious white men and not long after, Osage began to die in a series of suspicious deaths, some of which were clearly murder. Based on journalist David Grann’s bestselling non-fiction book “Killers of the Flower Moon: The Osage Murders and the Birth of the FBI,” Martin Scorsese’s Killers Of The Flower Moon turns that non-fiction book into drama that combines elements of romance, mystery, and the history of the 1920s Osage murders, in an epic Western thriller starring Leo DiCaprio, Robert De Niro and Lily Gladstone.

As “Killers of the Flower Moon” (Paramount) debuts in theaters ahead of streaming on Apple, critics are ranking their favorite Scorsese movies. Looking at the auteur’s 26 films by their adjusted box-office gross, it’s a very different outcome.
“Flower Moon” will probably not make Scorsese’s top 10. It’s expected to place in the middle third of the director’s films with a domestic gross projected at up to $100 million. To be one of his 10 highest, it would need to surpass $104 million.
Five of the director’s seven biggest hits came in this century, the most recent being 2013’s “The Wolf of Wall Street.” Four of his top five star Leonardo DiCaprio including “The Departed,” the director’s biggest hit (both adjusted and unadjusted) as well as his sole Best Picture winner.
Adjusted, here is the box-office order for Scorsese’s 26 feature releases. (Excluded are his two concert documentaries.

This week sees the release of one of the most highly anticipated films of the past few years as three titans: Robert DeNiro, Leonardo DiCaprio and Martin Scorsese finally team up for the big screen adaptation of the the 2017 nonfiction book Killers of the Flower Moon: The Osage Murders and the Birth of the FBI. The film, which carries a hefty three hour and twenty six minute run time (fourteen minutes longer than Avatar: The Way of Water), is an Apple Studios/ Paramount co-production with Apple taking on the bulk of the $200 million budget to secure the rights for their Apple+ streaming service and Paramount handling theatrical distribution.
So the question is: how much money can this movie make? As we just pointed out, movies over the three hour mark such as Avatar: The Way of Water didn’t struggle to find audiences last year when it made over $2.3 billion worldwide.

Robert De Niro is 80 years old, and what better way to celebrate his birthday than with a look back at one of his most underrated classics: Ronin. John Frankenheimer’s career seemed to reach its nadir when he directed the ill-conceived remake of The Island of Dr. Moreau. Still, someone in Hollywood must have been impressed by how he held that tortured project together, as two years later, he would release 1998’s Ronin, boasting an all-star cast including Robert DeNiro, Sean Bean and Jean Reno. This action flick about a group of disavowed spies working as mercenaries wound up being a masterclass in action filmmaking from the director who helped invent the genre with The Train, Black Sunday, Grand Prix, and so many more.
While a modest box office hit, Ronin has become something of a classic, famed for its spectacular car chases through the streets of Paris. It’s...

The Tribeca Festival is postponing its “De Niro Con” celebration of festival co-founder Robert De Niro’s 80th birthday until April 2024 amid the ongoing writer and actor strikes.

In a statement released Wednesday, the festival said it decided to delay the tribute to DeNiro’s body of work, “in consideration of the ongoing WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes.”

It can’t be understated how jovial Van Peebles—the son of prolific Black filmmaker Mario Van Peebles—was from the moment he stepped on stage to quickly introduce the film, which chronicles the rise of a ruthless drug lord in the dilapidated slums of late-1980s New York City. By the time the opening credits began to roll he was encouraging a major clap-along in the audience to the groove-worthy opening track. This weekend sees the latest release in Disney’s “let’s just remake all of our old films but with real people and make a billion dollars each time” line of films with the live action update to 1989’s Oscar winning The Little Mermaid. And if the tracking for this one is any indication, Disney will have another billion dollar grosser on its hands as The Little Mermaid is expected to open anywhere between $100-$120 million, with a range like that I always like to split the difference and call it at $110 million for the 3-day take while the 4-day Memorial Day haul will be closer to that $120 million. That opening will put it less than both The Lion King and Beauty and the Beast live action openings but above the $91.5 million opening of 2019’s Aladdin which went on to do $1.054 billion worldwide.

Whether Lily Gladstone decides to campaign for lead actress or supporting (and there’s a case for either), a spot will be reserved for her in a lineup. That’s because her powerfully complex role in Apple Original Films’ “Killers of the Flower Moon,” which debuted at the Cannes Film Festival on a rainy Saturday night, is too good to ignore.
Gladstone delivers an uncompromising portrayal as Mollie, an Indigenous woman whose family and tribal community are being murdered at the hands of a sinister group of white men, driven by their thirst for greed and power. She’s a magnificent force.

It became clear almost 10 minutes into Martin Scorsese’s epic adaptation of David Grann’s 2017 non-fiction book “Killers of the Flower Moon: The Osage Murders and the Birth of the FBI” that the audience of attendees were witnessing the birth of a star.

Here’s a fun fact that Hollywood actors hate to admit… people get older.
In a reaction to the natural progression of life, Hollywood has engaged in de-aging effects for older actors to play younger versions of their characters, whether in franchises or standalone films — such as Robert DeNiro in “The Irishman,” Samuel L. Jackson in “Captain Marvel” and most recently, Harrison Ford in “Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny.”
Like most new technology that comes into the industry, it takes some getting used to. However, with more than two dozen high-profile experiments thus far, the misfires greatly outweigh the successes. De-aging effects in Hollywood still need to be fine-tuned, and Hollywood should only use them once we can perfect the technique.
A primary concern is that while these effects are visually impressive, they fall short of replicating the natural appearance of a younger self. In addition, it can...

On Wednesday’s 11th episode of “Survivor 44,” Danny Massa cut the mission to find out who cast a vote against him short, believing it to have been a member of Tika. That belief led him down a path to targeting Yamil “Yam Yam” Arocho for the vote, but Yam Yam brought together the former Ratu members to oust Danny instead. Read on for his “Survivor 44” exit interview from the end of the episode.
For Danny, the vote should have been simple. With two Soka, two Ratu and three Tika in the game, the four non-Tika were supposed to align together to take out Yam Yam or Carson Garrett. Everyone was on board to take out Yam Yam, until he won his first immunity challenge and had safety. When the vote turned to Carson, the plan was still on, but Jaime Lynn Ruiz and Lauren Harpe were swayed by Tika to take out Danny instead.

De-aging tech has received its share of criticism, and rightly so. In our nostalgia-mad monoculture, being able to digitally rewind the physical effects of time seems like a neat trick that can, and kind of has, only been used as a gimmick. In recent years we've seen de-aging tech creep further into movie-making and so far it's yet to really prove its worth. There was the time Corridor Crew did a better job than Lucasfilm of deep-faking young Luke Skywalker. Then Martin Scorsese tried de-aging Al Pacino, Robert DeNiro, and Joe Pesci for "The Irishman" — a fascinating project that ultimately ended up feeling a bit uncanny, especially when DeNiro performed a fight scene as a 30-something version of himself who moved with all the aggression and vigor of a semi-conscious toddler waking up from a nap.

For Martin Scorsese, it was important to spend time with Osage people as he worked on “Killers of the Flower Moon,” his epic crime drama about the murders that took place in the early 1920s after major oil deposits were discovered on the tribe’s land.
“We tried to do right by them as much as we could,” the director said as he was interviewed by his star Leonardo DiCaprio on Thursday afternoon. “We shot in the actual location, even the doctors office.” The two A-listers were on hand at CinemaCon, the annual Las Vegas-based exhibition industry trade show, to talk up their new movie, which debuts in theaters in October after its world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival.
But that doesn’t mean Scorsese, a lifelong Manhattanite, seamlessly immersed himself in the great outdoors of Oklahoma and the Osage Nation.

Ana De Armas has named the moment she knew she had “made it” in Hollywood.
The actor made her debut on Saturday Night Live during this weekend’s episode (15 April).
In her monologue, De Armas, 34, recalled some of her early experiences in Hollywood.
The Cuban-Spanish star moved to Los Angeles in her twenties, after having begun her acting career in Cuba and Spain.
The Blonde star also spoke about the two times that she felt she had truly “made it”.
De Armas said that the first occasion was when her name was used as an answer in the New York Times crossword puzzle.
She said, however, that the moment was superseded by her SNL debut.
“I feel very lucky to be here,” she said. “I remember the first time my name was in the New York Times crossword. Everyone texted me and they said, ‘You made it – and I thought I did.

Leonardo DiCaprio was a megastar even before he was a frequent collaborator with Martin Scorsese on his films. Still, the Oscar-winner felt Scorsese played a significant part in saving a career some might’ve considered already successful.

Scorsese and DiCaprio have been collaborators since working together in the 2002 film Gangs of New York. From there, the pair have done five full-length feature films together. Scorsese’s upcoming thriller Killers of the Flower Moon will be their sixth movie.
Being in a Scorsese movie has been a personal aspiration for DiCaprio ever since watching Scorsese’s 1976 classic Taxi Driver. After getting to know some of Scorsese’s other works, DiCaprio wanted to emulate the type of storytelling he felt the filmmaker accomplish.

Afire (2023).In February, Christian Petzold’s new film Afire premiered in competition at the Berlin International Film Festival, where it received the Silver Bear Grand Jury Prize. Set on the Baltic coast of Germany, the story follows novelist Leon (Thomas Schubert), who has escaped the city with his friend Felix (Langston Uibel), intending to put the finishing touches on his second book. Instead, the two become romantically enmeshed with Nadja (Paula Beer), a literary scholar who spends the summer selling ice cream, and the local lifeguard Devid (Enno Trebs). Unlike the others, Leon cannot embrace the season’s lighthearted self-abandonment and wanders sleeplessly through blue nights without darkness. All the while, forest fires blaze in the distance. At first, they only reach the protagonists as rumors, sounds of helicopters, and glowing red skies (the German title of the film means “Red Sky”), until the threat finally encroaches upon the immediate forests.

It's no secret that Christian Bale takes his roles seriously. So seriously, that he'll commit to massive weight changes to help get into character — a practice he said he's finished with as of 2019. The actor famously shed almost all his body fat to play the sleep-deprived 121-pound protagonist of "The Machinist" before bulking up to 240 pounds to take on the role of the Dark Knight in 2005's "Batman Begins." Since then he's fluctuated in weight with every role he's taken. Bale once again packed on the pounds to play Dick Cheney in 2018's "Vice," then immediately dropped 40 pounds to play British racing driver Ken Miles in "Ford v Ferrari" — prompting his co-star Matt Damon to praise his "monk-like discipline."
And his commitment to roles extends beyond weight fluctuations. For 2022's "Amsterdam," Bale became a bit of a stalker after seeing a man on the street whose movements he wanted to...

Don Rickles isn't afraid of insulting anyone, and a young Quentin Tarantino was no exception. Some of the biggest legends in Hollywood converged when the "Pulp Fiction" director met Martin Scorsese for the first time on the set of his 1995 film "Casino," in which Rickles played a supporting role. Rickles was a mutual friend of Scorsese and Tarantino, but he went out of his way to make Tarantino blush that day. Believe it or not, the famous insult comic didn't humiliate the young filmmaker with an insult — he did him in with a compliment.
"I was acting in a movie in Vegas and it turned out that during that time Scorsese was doing 'Casino' in Vegas," Tarantino revealed on the 2 Bears, 1 Cave Podcast. This was presumably the crime film "Destiny Turns on the Radio," which was released the same year as "Casino." "I'd never really met Martin Scorsese before,...

Having already won a Golden Globe and a BAFTA Award for his portrayal of Elvis Presley in “Elvis,” Austin Butler is on a solid path to triumphing on his first Oscar nomination. His film, which covers the entirety of the titular rock star’s two-decade career, boasts a talented cast that includes past Oscar winner Tom Hanks, who collected back-to-back Best Actor trophies for “Philadelphia” (1994) and “Forrest Gump” (1995). He missed out on a supporting bid for “Elvis,” but if Butler clinches the lead award, Hanks will become the 15th man to have acted in a film that won the same Oscar he previously received.
Hanks has a total of five Best Actor nominations to his name, with the three unsuccessful ones having come for his work in “Big” (1989), “Saving Private Ryan” (1999), and “Cast Away” (2001). Until Butler was recognized for “Elvis,” Hanks had never appeared in a film for which someone...

Many of my favourite film stories are bound up in the cinema experience. There are sensational moments, an ambulance called to someone not just struck but stricken by Titane. Faintings filling in the gap left by the red square in Bryan M Ferguson's Flamingo. There are subtler ones though. Seeing Behaviour as the last film in a programme where the audience had clapped for every one before, feeling those around me grow in dread as they realised they would be obligated by past performance to applaud a film that itself is washed in discomfort. A screening of The Irishman where due to the odd angles of the auditorium and the position of my seat I could not help but see a person checking their watch again and again, more visibly affected by...

John Wayne may have cultivated a large fan base thanks to his many popular Western films. But Oscar-winner Day-Lewis wasn’t too fond of the film star.

Day-Lewis is widely regarded as one of Hollywood’s greatest actors and an inspiration to many. But even the often praised veteran has found inspiration from some of his own contemporaries. Day-Lewis had his sights set on acting from a young age. However, becoming an American actor couldn’t have been further from his mind. In England at the time, Day-Lewis noticed that style of acting was looked down on by his fellow English actors.
“Where I come from, it was a heresy to say you wanted to be in movies, leave alone American movies,” Day-Lewis said in a 2007 interview with The New York Times.

The late Tom Sizemore was one of the great character actors of the 1990s. His spectacular run during this decade begins with Oliver Stone's "Natural Born Killers," an ultra-violent media satire with frenzied editing and a polarized reputation. The film's leads are Mickey Knox (Woody Harrelson) and his bride Mallory (Juliette Lewis). To quote "Bonnie and Clyde" — "They're young, they're in love, and they kill people."

Tom Sizemore, who faced legal troubles and drug addiction amid a career that saw him star as Sgt. Mike Horvath in Steven Spielberg’s Saving Private Ryan and portray cops, crooks and psychopaths with the best of them, died Friday. He was 61.
