Dave Grohl has unleashed the only live performance of his epic 23-minute, instrumental “Play,” which extends the song to a whopping 36 minutes.
Recorded during Warren Haynes’ 30th Annual Christmas Jam in 2018, the live version expands the breadth of the instrumental as Grohl is accompanied by Greg Kurstin on keyboards, Chris Chaney on bass, Drew Hester on percussion, and guitarists Jason Falkner, Alain Johannes, and Barrett Jones. However, it’s Asheville-based busker Abby the Spoon Lady who really steals the show. Watch the performance below.
“Play” was originally composed and performed entirely with Grohl on every instrument. The process of its recording was captured in a two-part documentary of the same name, released in 2018.
The track will appear on The Benefit Concert Volume 20, a collection of performances recorded on December 7th and 8th, 2018 in Asheville, North Carolina. Other featured artists include Eric Church, Joe Bonamassa, Gov’t Mule, Mike Gordon, Marco Benevento,...

Since the release of his 2019 album Sunset Kids, Jesse Malin has been on a prolific creative streak, one that only increased during the pandemic with his popular you-are-there livestreams and the release of one-off singles like “Todd Youth.”
On Friday, the New York City songwriter announced a new album with the song and music video “The Way We Used to Roll.” The track has its own heartbeat and aims to pump life back into a live music scene that mostly sat dormant for a full year. As on Sunset Kids,...

Sadler Vaden would like you to be more present. He says as much in the title of his new song “Be Here Right Now,” a rocking, romantic ode to escaping the distractions of modern existence that appears on his first solo album since his 2016 self-titled debut. “I want to take you away, somewhere safe and warm/and pull ourselves together, baby, get a break from the norm,” he sings, over aching guitar and a gentle beat.

Singer-songwriter Mary Bragg momentarily sheds her country-folk sound for a little slice of Southern rock on a cover of Aaron Lee Tasjan’s “Don’t Walk Away” featuring Drivin N Cryin. The recording will appear on Bragg’s forthcoming Ep Think About It, which will be released March 6th.
Tasjan, who once played in Drivin N Cryin, also produced the band’s last album, Live the Love Beautiful. “Don’t Walk Away” appears on his 2014 album Crooked River Burning and deals with the struggle to find belief in a sea of contradictions.

Drivin N’ Cryin pay tribute to Ian McLagan — the electrifying keyboardist for the Faces and Small Faces, who died in 2014 — in this sneaky bar-band jam that bears his name. A track off the Georgia rock group’s upcoming album Live the Love Beautiful, “Ian McLagan” is framed by singer Kevn Kinney’s first-person lyrics, which vividly recall the last time he saw McLagan alive: schlepping his gear down an Austin alleyway in the rain.

Venerable Georgia rock band Drivin N Cryin have announced the new album Live the Love Beautiful. Produced by Aaron Lee Tasjan — who played guitar for the group for two years before launching his own successful solo career — the 11-track album highlights the quality mix of Southern rock, country and folk that Drivin N Cryin have been perfecting since forming in the mid-Eighties.
To preview the album, set for a June 21st release, the group unveiled the song “Step by Step.” It’s a jangly slice of heartland rock that underscores...

The timing was appropriate: The opening night of AmericanaFest, landing on Patriot Day, with a who’s who of Americana music gathered together at the Basement East in Nashville to sing songs of protest and political discontent. Mostly, though, they were all there to have fun.
An unofficial kickoff to the week’s festivities, the Tuesday night party has become an annual tradition for the Music City festival, but this year’s event — with Whiskey Wolves of the West, Chuck Mead and the Grassy Knoll Boys, and Andrew Leahey and...

For years the cast and crew of the hit animated comedy, Archer have been telling anyone who’ll listen that the show is less a series about spy and espionage and is more about the dynamics of a volatile and dysfunctional work place. Just to ensure this claim, the superb fifth season, airing Monday nights on FX, has been a ballsy departure from the first four seasons after International Secret Intelligence Service (Isis) was dissolved and the cast is stuck sneaking around trying to find a way to make money and get rid of a literal ton of cocaine that was stashed in Malory’s office. Lana is pregnant, Cheryl changes her identity again but this time as a country singer, and Pam has replaced all of the basic four food groups with cocaine. The title of the show has morphed into Archer Vice and is the most thrilling and unpredictable season yet.
