The race to get a Lance Armstrong film onto screens is heating up. With at least two competitors already pedalling through development, here comes Warner Bros. and director Jay Roach with a new arrival called Red Blooded American, which has snagged the services of Bradley Cooper.“Hang on, though,” we hear you splutter, “didn’t he already appear to sign on to another Armstrong film that Paramount and J.J. Abrams’ Bad Robot company was working up?” Indeed, he reportedly had discussions about that movie, based on Juliet Macur’s book Cycle Of Lies: The Fall Of Lance Armstrong.Still, it would seem that Roach and Warners have snagged Cooper’s services as producer and potential star of American, which chronicles not only Armstrong’s incredible Tour de France-winning run, but the story behind the doping scandal that brought him low. Cooper has not indicated whether he’ll play the main man or teammate-turned-whistle-blower Tyler Hamilton,...

Now, according to Deadline, Cooper is joining the Warner Bros./Atlas Entertainment biopic Red Blooded American as a producer, but there.s a very good chance he will also take a starring role. Hamilton was the initial whistleblower who revealed Armstrong.s illegal actions to 60 Minutes, and took quite a verbal lashing from Armstrong after the fact for breaking trust. Bradley Cooper has joined Warner Bros' upcoming film project that focuses on 7-time Tour de France champion Lance Armstrong, whose career ended in disgrace when he finally admitted he was doping. The movie is called Red Blooded American.
Cooper will be a producer on the film, but is also looking to star in one of two roles. He will either play Armstrong or Tyler Hamilton, "the former Armstrong teammate who was part of Armstrong’s inner circle on the Us Postal Service Team and who came forward and told what he saw Armstrong doing in a 60 Minutes segment."
Needless to say, Armstrong was pissed off at Hamilton for breaking the circle of trust. The script for the film will be written by Side Effects scribe Scott Z. Burns.
This is one of three projects based on Armstrong's experiences. Working Title is also working on one that will star Ben Foster as Armstrong.

Bradley Cooper has signed up for a still-developing Lance Armstrong movie, according to a new report on Deadline.com. According to the industry news site, Cooper is joining "Red Blooded American" as a producer and will play a major role in the film, though it's unclear which of the two parts roles he'll take.
Up for grabs are the characters of Armstrong himself and Tyler Hamilton, Armstrong's longtime buddy and ex-teammate. Sports fans will remember Hamilton as the man who appeared on "60 Minutes" to deliver a damning account of Armstrong's use of banned substances, and the focal point of Armstrong's ensuing vitriol.
This is hardly the only Armstrong movie that's starting to take form. In addition to Jay Roach and Warner Bros.' version, which is the one Cooper was just attached to, there's a J.J. Abrams film in the works at Paramount, and Working Title has a Stephen Frears...

Deadline reports that Bradley Cooper has signed on to produce and potentially star in the Jay Roach–directed Red Blooded American, one of the three (yes, three) Lance Armstrong movies in development. He’ll likely play either Armstrong or Tyler Hamilton, a former teammate who came forward about Armstrong’s behavior. Oddly enough, Cooper was once approached to play Armstrong in a J.J. Abrams–produced Lance Armstrong movie. With these two, and the Ben Foster version, it’s going to be a real race to whoever gets their movie into theaters first. Someone should take movie-making steroids.

He can pretty much have his pick of movie parts these days, and Bradley Cooper has almost reached a deal to star in “Red Blooded American.”
The Jay Roach-helmed project is still in the planning stages, and one source suggested that Cooper may not play Lance Armstrong, but rather Armstrong’s teammate/snitch Tyler Hamilton.
Warner Bros and Atlas Entertainment will back the biopic which will be screenwritten by “Contagion” scribe Scott Z. Burns.
Additionally, there are several other competing projects in the works, including an untitled Stephen Frears film and “Cycle of Lies” from Paramount Pictures.

Looks like Bradley Cooper is in the lead in the race to play Lance Armstrong. The actor is in talks to come on board as a producer for the Warner Bros. film based on Armstrong's life, which will chronicle the cycling star's fall from grace after the athlete confessed to using performance-enhancing drugs to win the Tour de France. E! Earlier this year, when Paramount Pictures and Bad Robot had a biopic on fallen cycling star Lance Armstrong announced, it didn't take long for rumors to swirl that Oscar nominated actor Bradley Cooper was already in talks to play the once popular athlete. However, the actor denied the claims, whether or not they were true. In an interesting twist though, Deadline has word that Cooper has headed to Warner Bros. to produce and potentially star in their Armstrong film, with Game Change director Jay Roach telling the story from the point of view of Armstrong's team, specifically teammate Tyler Hamilton. Read on! You might remember that Deadline also recently reported that Ben Foster (Rampart, Contraband) in final talks to play the former cycling icon in the film written by Stephen Frears (The Queen, Frost/Nixon). So that's three Lance Armstrong movies in the works now, which seems a little excessive.

This is a little confusing.
A while back actor Bradley Cooper ("The Hangover," "Silver Linings Playbook) was rumored to be playing cyclist Lance Armstrong in "Cycle of Lies," a biopic about the disgraced athlete that Paramount Pictures and Bad Robot are working on.
Now, it has been confirmed that Bradley Cooper is negotiating to both produce and star in a rival project - the Jay Roach-directed "Red Blooded America" at Warner Bros. Pictures and Atlas Entertainment.
Though Cooper will likely play Armstrong, he might instead be taking on the role of Armstrong's former teammate Tyler Hamilton. Scott Z. Burns ("Side Effects," "Contagion") is penning the script.
Stephen Frears is also directing a third and currently untitled film about Armstrong at Working Title. Ben Foster ("Pandorum," "X-Men: The Last Stand") was recently linked to that project.

If you're sensing the onset of a little headline déjà vu, don't worry. You totally have heard something along these lines before.
Earlier this year, Bradley Cooper was rumored to be in contention for the lead in an upcoming Lance Armstrong biopic, but while he admitted to being totally intrigued by the story, he also dismissed any talk of being selected for the sure-to-be-iconic role as "nuts" (we're not sure if that pun was intentional or not).
Now, Deadline claims Cooper is in talks to star in another Armstrong-centric movie altogether as either Armstrong himself or Tyler Hamilton, the shamed cyclist's former teammate who blasted him out on national television for doping.
Yep, B. Coop might've gotten an email or two from J.J. Abrams about his in-the-works adaptation of Juliet Macur's book "Cycle of Lies: The Fall of Lance Armstrong" over at Paramount Pics. — the first Livestrong-esque part he was...

Ok, so this whole Lance Armstrong thing is getting a bit out of hand. Currently, we have three biopics about the famed cyclist in development. One is under the watchful eye of J.J. Then, only this Summer a third one was announced with Stephen Frears directing and Ben Foster set to star.
Here’s where it gets even more tricky. Cooper was originally meeting with Abrams, hoping to get involved in his version of the Lance Armstrong story. But now there’s been a switch and the actor has decided to partner up with Jay Roach on the Warner Bros. project.

The battle of the Lance Armstrong biopics is heating up, with two projects pedaling furiously toward release.
Working Title's version has a director, Stephen Frears, and star, Ben Foster. Now the Warner Bros. project is getting a push forward, with Bradley Cooper in talks to produce and perhaps headline the movie about the disgraced cyclist.
According to Deadline, the "Hangover" star is circling the Jay Roach-directed biopic, "Red Blooded American," which is interesting since he'd been rumored for a J.J. Abrams take on Armstrong's story. At the time, Cooper denied any involvement in the Abrams project.
"Red Blooded American" has the advantage of having the rights to Tyler Hamilton's story. A rival and former teammate of Armstrong, Hamilton made waves when he admitted on "60 Minutes" that he'd seen Armstrong doping.
Cooper could play either Armstrong or Hamilton in the movie, though he wouldn't get on the bike for some time.

Exclusive: Director Stephen Frears, in Hollywood promoting his HBO film Muhammad Ali's Greatest Fight at TCA, is moving fast on another fact-based movie based on an iconic athlete. I’m told that Frears and Working Title partners Tim Bevan and Eric Fellner have teamed up on a feature film on the doping scandal that enveloped the Tour de France and led to the downfall of 7-time champion Lance Armstrong in the biggest doping scandal in the history of sports. I’m still trying to get all the details, but they are eyeing a start as soon as this fall on the movie. That makes Frears a surprise entry in a crowded field, and that doesn’t even factor in a Sony Pictures Classics deal this week to release the documentary The Armstrong Lie. Back when Lance Armstrong was an inspirational figure, Paramount Pictures was developing a film based on the cyclist. Then when Armstrong admitted to taking drugs and lying about it, the studio shifted the project and acquired rights to Juliet Macur's book "Cycle of Lies," which follows the drug scandal. Now comes word that Warner Bros has decided to start work on a competing project and has already hired Jay Roach to direct (Game Change, Meet the Parents). Story details have yet to be revealed, but the studio secured life rights to Armstrong's racing partner Tyler Hamilton, which means that the drug scandal will be at the center of the film. The script is being written by Scott Z. Burns (Side Effects, The Bourne Ultimatum). No word on when the movie will go into production or be released.

Deadline reports that two major studios are trying to make a film on the Lance Armstrong doping scandal. For years, the public hotly debated whether 7-time Tour de France champion Armstong had been doping but the issue was never fully resolved until this year, when Armstrong sat down with Oprah Winfrey and admitted to it.
Mike Fleming Jr. of Deadline writes that:
“Warner Bros has acquired an untitled project from Atlas Entertainment’s Charles Roven and Alex Gartner that will be scripted by Side Effects scribe Scott Z. Burns to be directed by Jay Roach”
Warner Bros. also has the life rights to Tyler Hamilton, an Olympic gold medalist who was a teammate of Armstrong’s on the Us Postal Service Team. Hamilton was one of the first people to come out and testify under oath with doping accusations against Armstrong. This is huge news for Warner Bros., because Hamilton...

While we were at Sundance earlier this year, news broke of Lance Armstrong admitting to using performances enhancing drugs to win Tour de France titles. Shortly thereafter, Paramount Pictures and Bad Robot teamed to land the rights to Cycle of Lies: The Fall of Lance Armstrong, a book set to be published through Harper Collins that chronicles the rise and fall of the once inspiring professional cyclist. Now the race is to the big screen as Deadline reports Atlas Entertainment's Charles Roven (producer of Christopher Nolan's Dark Knight trilogy) and Alex Gartner are working on the story from another angle. The life rights to Tyler Hamilton have been purchased to become part of a feature film from Side Effects and Contagion writer Scott Z. Burns, and director Jay Roach. Who is Hamilton? Well, he's another professional cyclist who was part of Armstrong's close-knit Us Postal Service Team. The...

While it remains to be seen when J.J. Abrams will get to his Lance Armstrong movie that he's producing, now that he's involved in the world of "Star Wars," a rival project is brewing and it's already boasting some great talent. Warner Bros. has picked up a movie about the cyclist that will be penned by Scott Z. Burns ("Side Effects," "Contagion") and directed by Jay Roach ("Game Change," "Recount") which, given each of their resumes, is pretty exciting stuff. Helping in building the material to tell their tale, the project has secured the life rights of Tyler Hamilton, one of the racers on Armstrong's team, who later testified against him, leading to his downfall. Hamilton was one of the first on the inside to speak out, appearing on "60 Minutes" to make the revelation, and that show's producer Michael Radutzky is also looking to join on the untitled movie as well.
