Maggie Blinco plays Liebe, who starts over as a fashion designer after leaving her emotionally abusive partner of 50 years, and brings some real moments of poignancy
It’s never too late to follow a dream or for a second chance in life. That’s the message of this aggressively sentimental Australian drama about a woman in her 80s who walks out on her emotionally abusive partner and starts over as a fashion designer. It’s a movie with all its edges filed down and a soundtrack that doesn’t so much tug at the heartstrings as yank them. But 89-year-old actor Maggie Blinco gives a performance of such gentleness and dignity she pulls the quality up from its Hallmark level.
Blinco plays Liebe, who has spent the best part of 50 years living with failed rocker Duncan (a bit of a wooden performance from real-life musician Glenn Shorrock). Duncan is bitter and angry,...

After an ‘American Idol’ season filled with highs and lows for judge Katy Perry, her fellow judge Luke Bryan is coming to her defence. The ‘Dark Horse’ singer has been a judge since the show’s revival in 2018 – but during the most recent season, she sparked backlash among fans for various comments she made to contestants, at one point even drawing flak, reports People magazine.
In a recent interview with Fox News, Bryan praised Perry, who he said is used to shaking off negative attention.
“Katy Perry’s been dealing with stuff like that her whole career,” he said, quoted by People. “We all get it. I mean, we’re judging kids that people at home fall in love with. We’re not gonna bat 1,000 as judges.”
The country star, 46, said he believes that he and Perry, 38, as well as fellow judge Lionel Richie, are often put in a tough position,...

“American Idol” contestant Oliver Steele has jumped to Katy Perry’s defence after she faced backlash over some of her comments on the show.
Amid reports suggesting Perry was considering leaving “Idol”, Steele took to Instagram to share some snaps with the singer, writing: “I’ve seen a lot of rumours going around the internet about Katy Perry possibly leaving ‘idol’ and I don’t necessarily know what’s true and what’s not. Here is what I know about @katyperry
“Katy is not a bully, nor does she shame people. I remember being nervous at my audition, nervous during Hollywood week, hell even nervous throughout various points in the competition. Katy has an incredible ability to not just tell what emotional state you’re in, but to be able to tell what’s holding you back,” he went on.

Katy Perry's time doling out advice to hopefuls on American Idol could end very soon.
According to The Daily Mail, the "California Girls" singer is considering her options after the public perception of her changed this season.
While nothing has been confirmed, the report states that Perry is not thrilled about her portrayal this season and feels like producers are to blame.
Allegedly, her breaking point was when the show's live audience booed her.
"Katy feels like [the producers] threw her under the bus," the source dished.
"She feels like her comments could have been removed."
"Katy became aware of the harsh criticism. Getting booed really upset her. She was trying to stay in her lane, do her job and go home," the source added.
"She went into it thinking she was going to foster young talent. For her good intentions to be misinterpreted it was not what she wanted."

The American Idol judging panel will look very different for one night only.
ABC has announced that Katy Perry and Lionel Richie will not be present on the reality series's Sunday, May 7 episode, and there's a very good reason.
Perry and Richie are both scheduled to attend the coronation of King Charles III.
The episode will still feature the pair in some capacity as they are set to appear live from Windsor Castle.
You probably have questions about who will join Luke Bryan to judge in their absence.
Thankfully, that news has already been revealed.
Ed Sheeran and Alanis Morissette will appear in the coveted judges' seats.
Morissette was already set to appear as a mentor in the episode.
The finalists are set to sing songs from both Sheeran and Moresette's song catalogs, which should make for a fun night.
Bryan addressed the decision to switch things up in Perry and Richie's absences.

Former American Idol contestant Sara Beth Liebe has had her fair share of controversy during her short time on the singing competition show. The aspiring singer recently shared her thoughts on her abrupt departure from American Idol.
Sara Beth Liebe’s ‘American Idol’ audition went viral after viewers slammed Katy Perry for ‘mom-shaming’ her
Liebe first caught the internet’s attention after a clip from her American Idol audition went viral. The 25 year-old mentioned her age and the fact that she was a mom of three while talking to the judges — Lionel Richie, Katy Perry, and Luke Bryan — and they reacted strongly.
Perry stood up in shock while Bryan playfully fanned her. Liebe joked, “If Katy lays on the table, I think I’m going to pass out,” to which Perry responded, “Honey, you’ve been laying on the table too much.” Many viewers found Perry’s comment rude and accused her of “mom-shaming” Liebe.

"Champagne's not actually mentioned in the manual, but it is strong implied." Madman Films has debuted another official trailer for an Australian indie drama titled A Stitch in Time, made by the filmmaker Sasha Hadden. This originally premiered and opened Down Under back in 2022, though we have only caught up with it now. Hopefully it will eventually get a US release, as it has never shown up outside of Oz yet. A heart-warming story about a former dressmaker named Liebe, and her partner Duncan. Liebe leaves Duncan to reinvent herself after befriending young Chinese fashion designer, played by Hoa Xuande (from "Cowboy Bebop"). Starring Australian theatre fave Maggie Blinco, Glenn Shorrock. Aussie icon Belinda Giblin, and rising star Hoa Xuande. A charming, easy-to-watch film about rediscovering your passion at any age. // Continue Reading ›...

Sara Beth Liebe is getting the support of Whoopi Goldberg and The View co-hosts after she made the decision of quitting American Idol to go home to her kids.
“People have to make decisions and you made the decision that was right for you,” Goldberg said on the ABC talk show. “With that voice, that will not be your only time and you’re young enough to come back and do it again.”
Goldberg added that she respected Liebe for making the decision and going with her heart. The 25-year-old singing hopeful shocked the American Idol judges when she announced she was abandoning the show to go back with her three children who are between the ages of 2 and 7.
Joy Behar chimed in saying that after announcing her exit, Liebe has gotten “a lot of exposure” and it was fine she would want to return to her kids.

Liebe quit the series on Sunday night (2 April) after a performance of The Police’s song “Roxanne”.
“This opportunity is really rad, but this is actually gonna be my last performance ’cause my heart’s at home,” she told Perry and co-judges Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan.

Katy Perry and former “American Idol” contestant, Sara Beth Liebe, appear to be on good terms after Liebe expressed last month that she felt hurt by Perry’s “mom shaming” comment during her audition.
In fact, during Sunday’s episode, Perry rallied for Liebe as she tried to convince the singer multiple times to stay in the competition as she struggled with wanting to go home to be with her three young children. The 25-year-old ultimately chose to quit the competition despite Perry’s efforts.
“Sara Beth, I know life is scary,” the “Teenage Dream” singer told the mom of three. “I also know that it’s easier to walk away than to be rejected. But then I also know that you lose out on your fullest potential and I know that you love your family for your kids. I know that as a mother. But remember, self-love is just as big as motherly love.
