Prime Video has pounced on Mexican comedy “Tequila Repasado” by Gabriela Tagliavini., which it premieres worldwide on Dec. 20.
Co-produced by Sony Pictures Int’l Prods and Mexico-based Itaca Films and Feel Good Films, the comedy was originally written in English by Judd Pilot (“Coach”) and Gerald B. Fillmore (“Muertos S.L.”) to be later adapted for the Spanish-language market by Joan Vives, Ilse Apellaniz and Ricardo Avilés.
Said Tagliavini: “I loved the script. It was weird and hilarious yet also spiritual. And it allowed me to use interesting VFX and create original visuals, which is always a fun challenge!”
“Tequila Repasado” revolves around a workaholic who finds himself repeatedly transported back in time by a mystical tequila, forcing him to outsmart his multiplying selves as he struggles to mend his relationships with his family.

When I first read of Tiffcon's (Tokyo International Film Festival) efforts to increase international sales and coproductions (Sales and co-production under the spotlight at Tiffcon News Screen), what caught my attention first was reading, "Taiwan, which was colonised by Japan for 50 years until the 1940s" and I thought, How about a film about that little known fact for the rest of us...including -- was it called, Chang Kai Chek's "liberation"?
On thinking further of how much well-thought-out care was taken to address the issue of our international film crisis from the Japanese point of view, I realized that Tiffcon was presenting a model to emulate for regional film markets and that this applied particularly to the new upcoming Ventana Sur, hosted by the Argentina Government organization Incaa and Jerome Paillard of the Cannes Market. Might the Tokyo International Film Festival with its intense focus on the Japanese film industry...

Alex Kostich has been promoted to vp creative advertising for Sony Pictures Releasing International.
Reporting to Ignacio Darnaude, exec vp creative advertising, he is responsible for print advertising campaigns internationally, overseeing one sheets, newspaper advertisements and collateral marketing material.
Kostich joined Spri as director creative advertising in 2003. Before joining Sony, he was at Warners for 10 years in a variety of roles.
He has worked on such films as the last two "Spider-Man" movies, "The Da Vinci Code," "Casino Royale," "Quantum of Solace" and "Angels & Demons."
He is also the liaison for Spri's 65 international offices around the world for print-related issues for the studio's releases.

Director Issa Lopez (Efectos Secundarios) will helm Casi Divas (Road to Fame) for Columbia Pictures Producciones Mexico, the local production arm of Sony Pictures Entertainment. The film, which stars Patricia Llaca, Julio Bracho, Maya Zapata, Ana Layevska, Diana Garcia and Daniela Schmidt, will be produced by Luz Maria Rojas (Once Upon a Time in Mexico, Mask of Zorro). Divas, which is based on an idea and story by SPRI executive vp creative advertising Ignacio Darnaude, marks the fledgling production division's second feature. The first was the acquisition El Crimen Del Padre Amaro, which became the biggest Mexican film of all time.

Sony Pictures Entertainment's local production division in Mexico, Columbia Films Producciones Mexico, has begun production on its first feature, the comedy Charm School (Ninas Mal), which will be produced and directed by Fernando Sarinana. Penned by Issa Lopez (Ladies' Night), the story is based on an idea and treatment by Sony Pictures Releasing International executive vp creative Ignacio Darnaude and Jose Balido. The film stars Martha Higareda, Camila Sodi and Blanca Guerra. The battle-of-wills comedy centers on the rebellious 18-year-old daughter (Higareda) of a rising political star who is sent to Mexico City's only remaining charm school for young ladies.
