The Association of Film Commissioners International is heading to Cannes.
For its 2024 edition, the Cannes film market, the Marché du Film, will debut the Global Film Commission Network Summit where, together with the Afci, industry executives will discuss, among other things, “selecting locations for authentic storytelling, indigenous community engagement and dismantling location stereotypes,” the Afci said. Attendees will include film commissioners, policymakers and production executives.
In a statement, Afci executive director Jaclyn Philpott said Afci’s presence at Cannes marks the growing significance of film commissions in production. “Our expanded presence at Cannes underscores Afci’s important role in the global screen sector,” she said.
Amid slashes in content spend by most studios, tax incentives granted by film commissions to shoot in certain jurisdictions are becoming more vital than ever. States and countries across the globe are increasingly creating tax credit programs to vitalize local economies. Last month, Japan opened...

The new head of the Afci has big goals for the organization, and looks to promote stability within the leadership, which has seen a few presidents come and go in the past handful of years.
“I really want to reassure people that I’m in this for the long haul and I feel like I have the right skill set to take the organization through and develop a really good strategy for it for the next 10 years,” says Jaclyn Philpott, the recently installed Afci exec director. “I’ll be ready and willing to answer any questions that they may have. You know, I’ve had a very good look under the hood at the organization, from the financials through the previous strategies to what’s happening in the market right now, and I feel like I have a good idea of what they want based on what they’ve told...

Ireland has been selected to host the Association of Film Commissioners International’s 46th annual Cineposium Conference, which will be held in Limerick in September. The event, being held in Ireland for the first time, brings together film commissions and industry leaders from around the world to discuss policy, economic development and film production.
The right to host the event was the result of a competitive bid process open to all Afci film commission members; it was won this year by Film in Limerick.
Thanks to its generous tax incentives, stunning scenery and experienced crews, Ireland has become an international hub of film production. Oscar-nominated The Banshees of Inisherin filmed there, and so did Disney’s Disenchanted, which transformed the village of Enniskerry and employed a 98% local crew. This year’s surprise hit Cocaine Bear also shot on the Emerald Isle, re-creating a U.S. national park in the Wicklow countryside.

The HiFi Holiday Festival, hosted by Filipinos Advancing Creative Education (F.A.C.E) in collaboration with other HiFi organizations, took over L.A.’s Historic Filipinotown on Saturday for the second consecutive year.
Held at RideBack Ranch, the event raised toy donations to ship back to less fortunate families in the Philippines while spreading holiday cheer to L.A. locals through live music, complimentary meals and festive photo-ops.
“This is one of our favorite annual community engagement programs we offer to serve those less fortunate during the holiday season,” said Lyle Del Mundo, executive director of F.A.C.E. “It’s an opportunity for some of the many talented Filipinos in entertainment to donate their time and talent to connect, inspire, and this is their reason to celebrate the season.”
The celebration featured a line-up of celebrity meet and greets with special guests like Simu Liu, Patrick Starrr, Alex Wassabi, Paris Belrec, Vincent Rodriguez III,...
