Back in March, I wrote a column about the Netflix Effect, and the boost that non-Netflix shows often get when they arrive on the streaming giant. One of the series I used as an example was Resident Alien, starring Alan Tudyk as an extraterrestrial posing as a Colorado small-town doctor after being stranded by a spaceship crash; I had barely watched it in its primary home on Syfy, only to begin bingeing it once the first two seasons joined the Netflix library. In that column, I observed, “It’s often...

If you're a fan of the Broadway play Rent, then you know you can measure a year with five hundred twenty-five thousand, six hundred minutes.
Resident Alien Season 3 Episode 3 offered another view that in the span of Earth's history, by comparison, a human life is 141 seconds.
Now, we don't know where that stat came from, but it sure is a sobering thought to how little we matter in the overall scheme of things.
Harry often finds interesting points like that now that he's come around to humanity.
He just wraps his head around how humans care so much about certain things until he has the same experience in his life, and it all comes together for him.
As the episode began, Harry Vanderspiegel wondered why humans think they deserve any better treatment than every other life force on earth that must fight to survive.

The following contains mild spoilers for Resident Alien.
Resident Alien is about much more than just Harry Vandesrpiegle (Alan Tudyk), a disguised alien pretending to be human in the town of Patience, Colorado. Yes, there’s plenty of awkward comedy as he tries to blend in and make sense of the oddities of human behavior, but the show also uses his abrasive personality and pointed commentary to illuminate the similar problems many of his neighbors are also dealing with.
That the show gives each and every member of its sprawling cast such clearly defined layers is part of the reason it’s so darn great to begin with, but what makes it truly remarkable is that these characters all have journeys and arcs of their own that exist completely separately from Harry and the threat of alien annihilation. Asta (Sara Tomko) is attempting to build bridges with the daughter she gave up for adoption.

Phoning home is not an option! The titular E.T. (Alan Tudyk) of Syfy’s standout dramedy resumes his second year of inhabiting the body of earthling Harry Vanderspeigle amid the fallout from pal Asta (Sara Tomko) gunning down a shady dude from the real Harry’s past in the second half of Resident Alien Season 2. “Asta is not handling it well,” explains creator Chris Sheridan, adding that things get even messier once her Bff, D’Arcy (Alice Wetterlund), becomes involved. “What’s the saying? ‘A friend helps you move, but a true friend helps you move a body.’” More trouble on tap: That alien assassin (Enver Gjokaj) we met in the midseason finale sticks around, and a feral baby alien (above) runs loose in Patience, Colorado. We love him already. Resident Alien also stars Elizabeth Bowen, Levi Fiehler, Corey Reynolds, Judah Prehn, and Meredith Garretson. The cast stopped by...

Why is The Offer recommended viewing?
Matthew Goode.
He's so good as longtime producer and Paramount Studios head Robert Evans that you cannot take your eyes off of him, and anything that doesn't work about The Offer is swept under the rug.
Goode's performance is brilliant as he transforms from the actor we've known from The Crown, A Discovery of Witches, Downton Abbey, and The Good Wife into Evans so entirely that it seems as if The Offer was always intended to be his vehicle.
Miles Teller might disagree, as he portrays The Godfather's sole producer, Al Ruddy, and the man from whose book The Offer is adapted.
And to be fair, Teller does a decent job with the material. He makes quite the show of Ruddy's unlikely tale about the mob being as entrenched in The Godfather's production as Mario Puzo (Patrick Gallo) and Francis Ford Coppola (Dan Fogler...

“Out of an abundance of caution, we have temporarily halted production on The Offer due to the return of a positive coronavirus test result during routine testing,” a rep for series producer Paramount Television Studios said in a statement to Deadline about the production pause, which came Wednesday. “We will continue to follow all safety protocols and monitor the situation closely.”
The development comes amid a surge of the Delta Covid variant in Los Angeles. HBO’s Westworld and FX’s American Horror Story also recently paused production over positive Covid tests.

Excellent news from Syfy today!
While so many of us have been enjoying Alan Tudyk's portrayal of an alien in a human body suit, it shouldn't be a surprise that the network wants him hanging around.
That's right! Resident Alien has been renewed for a second season.
Let's allow that to sink in for a moment.
The funniest dramedy to hit TV this year (and last?) will be back for more.
Yes, we're thrilled!
Resident Alien is the network's highest-rated drama in more than six years. This new multi-platform method from NBCUniversal must be working.
Resident Alien Season 1 Episode 1 garnered 9.3 million viewers across their multiple platforms.
Viewers who want the best first watch weekly on Wednesday nights at 10 p.m. on Syfy.
Those who are Ok waiting a little while longer can be found on Peacock.
The first three episodes can be found on the streamer now, and subsequent episodes will drop every Friday.

She is a cast member of the new SyFy series, Resident Alien, and she’s excited to get the chance to share her talents with a major audience.
