“It was a very open palate,” says Shona Heath while discussing her work as a production designer on Yorgos Lanthimos‘ “Poor Things.” She and her colleague James Price used the script from Tony McNamara as “the bouncing board for everything.” Watch our exclusive video interview with Heath and Price above.
“Yorgos was really keen that the film used all sorts of 1930s studio techniques, and also very up-to-date technology like LED screens for the sky,” Heath explains. “He was keen to have a new world created for him totally from scratch. He wanted to use all the techniques from miniatures to massive studio builds. He wanted everything.”

The good news: Law & Order Season 23 is on its way!
Now that the writers; and actors' strikes have been settled, the long-running procedural is all set for a shortened spring season. But it'll be short a cast member since Jeffrey Donovan has parted ways with the series.
What'll happen next? We have some ideas, but first, let's refresh our memories about what happened last year.
Law & Order Season 22 revamped Cosgrove's character a bit. He displayed a softer side and more of a willingness to listen. He also experienced the effects of racism firsthand when Shaw got in trouble for standing up to some white cops who assumed he was a criminal because of his skin color.
Cosgrove and Shaw gelled better than Cosgrove and Bernard had, making Cosgrove easier to take. He also had a Stabler-like storyline in which his daughter witnessed a murder and was traumatized.

Instead of jumping on the tour bus and heading to his band Midland’s headlining gig at the Dreamy Draw music festival, Mark Wystrach hopped into his vehicle and took the scenic route from his home in Tucson, Arizona, to the event site two hours away in Scottsdale.
“I drove up this back road — the original old highway — through the beautiful Sonoran desert,” Wystrach tells Rolling Stone backstage. “Growing up around a bunch of remarkable music here and at my parents’ [restaurant] the Steak Out in Sonoita — there were always incredible bands playing.

Six months in, the strikes are over. Ten days out, the holidays begin. As for the movies — unfortunately, the most exciting part of the year is already behind us.
It’s disconcerting to realize that there is no unavoidably dazzling, must-see, pop cultural event film on the schedule for the rest of 2023.
Certainly, some fine pictures, maybe even an Oscar winner, are yet to be released. December 8 brings Poor Things from Searchlight, with a story as challenging as any since The Shape of Water and the promise of an awards-worthy performance by Emma Stone. By then, The Holdovers, from Focus, and Napoleon, from Apple/Sony, will have gone wide, and Netflix’s Maestro will have shown in at least some theaters, adding a nostalgic character study, a period epic and a musical biopic to the seasonal mix.

Coyote vs. Acme composer Steven Price has blasted the David Zaslav cost-cutting Warner Bros Discovery administration for axing the Looney Tunes hybrid live-action animated film.

The scrapped “Coyote Vs. Acme” has now garnered a filmmakers vs. Warner Bros. campaign on social media.
On private Facebook group Crew Stories, “Coyote Vs. One of the curious things about "The Twilight Zone's" enduring popularity is that Rod Serling's classic anthology series has been rebooted three separate times, and even spun off into movies, and yet the original series is still considered the gold standard. You'll hear "Star Trek" fans sing the praises of "The Original Series," sure, but you'll also find lots of them who think the franchise peaked with "The Next Generation," "Deep Space Nine," or "Enterprise." But the reboots of the "Twilight Zone" aren't nearly as well remembered or celebrated as the original series, no matter how many great filmmakers or actors appeared in them.
Take the first TV reboot, for example. That version of "The Twilight Zone" aired for three seasons between 1985 and 1989 — peak, influential pop culture years — and featured episodes directed by cinematic luminaries like Wes Craven, Joe Dante, John Milius, Curtis Harrington, Bill Duke, Martha Coolidge,...

When cinephiles of a certain sensibility talk about the best decades for horror, they’ll probably point to the 1980s with its explosion of cutting-edge special effects and home video-induced demand for material. Or they might point to the era of Universal Pictures’ domination in the 1930s, followed up then by the moody Val Lewton thrillers of the 1940s. Maybe even a very unpopular kid will try to make an argument for the 2010s, at least until everyone pulls the A24 hat over his eyes and kicks him out.
But moviegoers would be foolish to overlook the 1960s. The decade saw not only two amazing horror flicks from Alfred Hitchcock but also caught the genre in an interesting time of transition. Filmmakers built on the Gothic approach of previous decades by adding a psychological dimension, finding new chills in an established model. Furthermore, the decade saw the first steps toward the ho,...

Developer Fantastico Studio has finalized their plans for the upcoming closed beta for Cannibal Tales, announcing that the beta will kick off on October 31. The team also dropped a bit more info on the beta, as well as revealed a new art piece involving the game’s antagonist.
The closed beta (which you can sign up for via the Cannibal Tales official site) will take place from October 31, and last until November 7th. This will be different from the public demo that was available this summer, and will give players access to the first two chapters of the game, totaling around 30 minutes of gameplay. Upon completing the demo, there will be a survey asking for player feedback.
This all ties into Fantastico’s aim to have the game out in February 2024. According to the announcement, development is in the “home stretch”, with the final two scenes, save functionality, options, and localization remaining.

Fantastico Studio has dropped another progress update for their Cannibal Tales visual novel, which is aiming to have a beta release this Halloween. In addition to adding three new scenes to the beta, the update delves into the characters that are part of Ruggero Deodato-scripted game.
“As the beta release draws near, we’re putting the finishing touches on localizing the new scenes in the upcoming demo,” reads the update. The closed beta comes off of the success of the demo that the developer put together back in August for Steam’s Visual Novel Fest.
Fantastico also dropped a few details regarding the characters that will be part of this first entry, “The Interview”, which is being planned for release this Winter:

Tim Burton’s classic movie, Edward Scissorhands, tells the story of Edward (Johnny Depp), an artificial man constructed of scissor blades, who falls in love with Kim (Winona Ryder) after getting taken in by a suburban family. The heartwarming, whimsical film from the ’90s still has a following today. So, where is the Edward Scissorhands cast now? Here’s what to know.
Where is ‘Edward Scissorhands’ cast member Johnny Depp now?
Johnny Depp played Edward, the artificially constructed, soft-spoken man who was known for his scissor hands. So, where is the most famous Edward Scissorhands cast member now?
Depp received a lot of press in 2022 due to his trial against Amber Heard. He accused Heard of fabricating domestic abuse accusations. Depp resigned from his role in Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore during the process due to his crumbling reputation. But now, it looks like he’s trying to make a comeback.

Back in the ’90s, staying home from school for the day meant a few things: plenty of fluids, a steaming bowl of Campbell’s Chicken Noodle Soup, and reruns of The Price Is Right with Bob Barker. Nothing cured us quicker than watching Barker pluck people from a live studio audience for a chance to win elaborate prizes by guessing the price of everyday items. Barker’s enthusiasm, mixed with an air of “I’m too old for this sh*t,” is the stuff of legend. Sadly, Barker died at 99 this past weekend, and CBS is already releasing a Bob Barker Tribute Special to honor the late TV personality.
The Price Is Right: A Tribute to Bob Barker airs Thursday, August 31, (8-9 p.m. Et/Pt) and streaming on Paramount+. An encore broadcast will air on Labor Day during the regular weekday timeslot for The Price Is Right, 11 a.m.

Bob Barker, who died today at 99, was the Patron Saint of Sick Days.
To hear Barker’s name is to be immediately transported.
Maybe you aren’t taken any further than the boxy TV in your living room — the one that was normally off-limits during daytime hours, but which became an inanimate physician and endlessly enabling babysitter whenever your body’s temperature hit 100.
For me, Bob Barker’s name is the magical wardrobe that takes me to every student lounge at every college my parents ever taught at, where I would take a frayed, foamy chair that was normally reserved for undergrads and park myself for hours waiting for my fever to break. Students would peek in, see that a plausibly ill kid was monopolizing the TV, complain that this was the time they normally watched their favorite soap operas and leave. Unless what was on was The Price Is Right,...

The Killers have dropped a new single, “Your Side of Town.” The track — written by frontman Brandon Flowers and produced alongside Stuart Price and Shawn Everett — marks the rock band’s first new music since last year’s one-off release “Boy.”
The synth-heavy chorus opens with the lovelorn lyrics: “I’m hanging on your side of town/I notice when you’re not around/Can’t keep my cool, I’m burning inside/A broken heartbeat, barely alive.”

Facing a potential refiling of criminal charges in the fatal 2021 shooting of Rust cinematographer Halyna Hutchins, Alec Baldwin on Wednesday failed in an attempt to have a civil case over the tragedy dismissed.
In a technically challenged virtual hearing this morning before New Mexico’s First Judicial District Court judge Bryan Biedscheid, Baldwin and co-defendants El Dorado Pictures and Rust Movie Productions’ motion to dismiss was denied. The judge also denied an additional motion to stay the matter until the criminal trial is over.
Earlier this year, Rust crew members Ross Addiego, Doran Curtin and Reese Price took Baldwin and the production companies to court for “negligent and reckless conduct.” Facing a plethora of cases arising out of the shooting on the indie Western, the defendants had a back-up plan to have the Addiego, Curtin and Price case stayed until the Rust criminal trial is over.

Margo Price has readied a follow-up to her January album Strays, naturally dubbed Strays II. She’ll roll out the sequel project in three acts culminating in a double album due out October 13th, and also embark on a tour of the UK and US this fall. What’s more, the three songs comprising Act I: Topanga Canyon are out now.
Strays had a pretty mystical origin story involving a psychedelic trip to the South Carolina countryside, and Price wrote some of the music that would become Strays II during the same excursion. Before combining the two projects into a double LP, the nine songs on the second record will initially be shared as three acts known as Topanga Canyon, Mind Travel, and Burn Whatever’s Left.
Out today is Strays II’s Act I: Topanga Canyon, featuring the tracks “Strays,” “Closer I Get (ft. Ny Oh),” and “Malibu (ft.

Dubai, Aug 13 (Ians) The conclusion of the Icc U19 Men’s Cricket World Cup Europe qualifier saw Scotland emerge victorious, topping the table in the Netherlands to confirm their place as the 15th team to qualify for the main event in Sri Lanka in January.
Needing to avoid defeat and a substantial swing in net run-rate, the Saltires led by skipper Owen Gould, comfortably defeated Italy by 151 runs to cue the celebrations and book their third successive appearance at the event.
Batting first, Scotland were well set at 193 for one before a glut of wickets fell, limiting their total to 229 from 39.4 overs. Opener Jamie Dunk top-scored for the Saltires with an impressive 96 from 99 balls, but Gurpreet Singh inspired the collapse, taking seven Scottish wickets for 25 runs from his eight overs. In reply, Italy struggled out of the blocks and never recovered, skittled for 78 after Adi Hegde took five for 15 from his nine overs.

Filmmaker William Friedkin forever changed horror with 1973’s The Exorcist, which earned him an Academy Award nomination for Best Director. He returned to the genre again in 1980 with the Giallo-like thriller Cruising and fearlessly got weird with gory folk horror The Guardian in 1990. Fearless perfectly encapsulates Friedkin’s style and his approach to life; he was never afraid to speak his mind or direct productions too peculiar or niche for mainstream audiences. The not-so-easily defined psychological thriller Bug, and its mixed initial reception, speaks to this.
That likely stemmed from Friedkin’s upbringing and his early career start in nonfiction. Bridging his path from his earlier work in commercials and documentaries to his seminal horror effort was television. It was a single episode of a popular anthology series from a horror master that kickstarted Friedkin’s career in fiction, and Friedkin never seemed to forget it.

It's hard to imagine Thursday nights without Law & Order.
Although the series that kicked off the franchise ceased production in 2010, it came back to life with all new episodes during the spring of 2022, and it's been an NBC staple ever since.
Fortunately, we don't have to worry about it going off the air yet; NBC renewed it for a 23rd season in April 2023. Check out everything we know so far about Law & Order Season 23, and be sure to bookmark this page so that you'll always have the most up-to-date info!
Unlike the other two series in the franchise, Law & Order focuses more on plot than character-driven stories, although that has changed somewhat in recent years.
The series has drifted away from its Dragnet-like focus on the case of the week, most notably on Law & Order Season 22 Episode 22 when McCoy went up against his daughter, who defended...

One of independent film’s key players, Ray Price, died July 16 at the age of 75 from heart failure after a long battle with cancer, his long-term partner Meg Madison confirmed.
Talking to Price about movies, past and present, was an exhilarating sport that could take a while. He knew his stuff — no one loved movies more — but more than anyone during the great indie decades of the ’70s, ’80s, and ’90s, he was a respected innovator who thought outside the box. He began as an exhibitor in San Francisco and moved on to marketing, releasing, and distributing movies, leaning toward the outrageous in how he lured audiences to sample challenging fare.

Ray Price, a respected producer of indie filmmaking, died July 16 from heart failure after a long battle with cancer. The news was confirmed by his long-term partner Meg Madison. He was 75 years old.
Price launched his film career in 1972, managing the Berkeley storefront theater the Rialto, and went on to build with Allen Michaan Renaissance Theaters, an independent art film chain that became one of the largest (33 at its peak) in the Bay Area and was later sold to the Landmark Theatre circuit.
A tough negotiator and exacting exhibitor, under Price’s stewardship, Renaissance Theaters were renowned for redesigning marketing materials, from posters to press books — designs that fledgling distributors often adopted when the films hadn’t found success in other markets.
At a time when most top arthouse distributors focused on established auteurs from Europe and Asia, Renaissance Theaters exploded those norms by programming new American directors like Martin Scorsese and John Cassavetes.
