Continuing our series of writers picking out under-appreciated films is a recommendation for a gothic and visually spectacular fantasty
Among independent cinema’s many trends during the halcyon 1990s was the nostalgic revival of German expressionism and monochrome. Films such as Guy Maddin’s Tales from the Gimli Hospital, Ildikó Enyedi’s My 20th Century, Woody Allen’s Shadows and Fog, Christopher Nolan’s Following and Darren Aronofsky’s Pi, along with the music videos and art photography of Rocky Schenck and the short films of Jan Švankmajer, imagined the millennium’s last decade using the gothic palette of the 1920s.

Is one of rock 'n' roll's most famous daughters ready to tie the knot? Frances Bean Cobain, 19, the daughter of Courtney Love and the late Kurt Cobain, has been dating Isaiah Silva of L.A. band the Rambles for more than a year - and they may have taken the next step, reports the Oc Weekly. They each quietly changed their Facebook relationship status to engaged a few weeks ago, the paper says, and a source confirms their happy news of Cobain's engagement to People. However, they have since changed their statuses back. According to the report, the couple use...

Frances Bean Cobain, the 19-year-old daughter of Courtney Love and late Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain, is almost as elusive a character as her dad was in the height of the Seattle-based band's popularity.
On the 20th anniversary of the release of her dad's seminal album, "Nevermind," we thought we'd catch up with Frances Bean to find out how she's adjusting to adulthood.
Although she's kept out of the spotlight most of her life (despite some public custody problems with mom Courtney Love) Frances Bean has given glimpses of herself to the public in the last year that have us every bit as intrigued as her pop did two decades ago.
Most recently, she posed for a series of grungy (sorry, it's the best word to use) photos for photographer Hedi Slimane. In them, she appears poised, provocative and downright hot. She also modeled for a series of '50s-esque photos for fashion photographer Rocky Schenck.

Frances Bean Cobain, daughter of Courtney Love and the late Kurt Cobain, is launching a subtle new PR campaign highlighted by some glamourous photographs. The images, which were shot by fine art photographer Rocky Schenck, show Bean as a classically beautiful grown-up 19-year-old who has an arresting face. Earlier, photographer Hedi Slimane photographed some stunning black and white portraits which really show her dad's Kurt Cobain's features in certain shots, and in others she favors her mother. Cobain previously did a fashion spread for Harper's Bazaar when she was just 15, telling the magazine that fame wasn't her goal. "These people are fascinated by me, but I haven't done anything," she said "If you're a big...

With her soft, wistful expression and Old Hollywood glamour, Frances Bean Cobain's style is about as far as she can get from that of her parents, the late grunge rocker Kurt Cobain and her wild child mom, Courtney Love. A new series of photos, taken by fine art photographer Rocky Schenck, captures the now-blonde 19-year-old alternating between sultry and sweet poses. Cobain, an artist, also posed for some wildly different shots by Hedi Slimane that appeared earlier this month. In that set, she was a brunette shown smoking and covered in tattoos. The earlier photos prompted a flurry of fashion buzz,...

Teenage angst certainly has paid off well.
Just days after a series of grungy rocker photos started making the rounds, Frances Bean Cobain has released a new series of pictures -- this time going old-school Hollywood glam.
The 19-year-old daughter of the late Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain and Hole singer Courtney Love stood in front of the lens of noted music video director Rocky Schenck.
And can we say, she sure looks like Miss World.

Hello, gorgeous. Who would've guessed that late grunge rock icon Kurt Cobain and Courtney Love's daughter, who used to be photographed wearing dark clothes paired with heavy eyeliner and a chopped black 'do, would evolve into such a glamorous young lady? Frances Bean Cobain just released some beautiful portraits that are quite impressive. The 18-year-old channeled Old Hollywood glamour in a series of shots photographed by famous Los Angeles photographer Rocky Schenck—who has also taken photos of celebs like Adele and Joni Mitchell, among others—by keeping the makeup to a bare minimum and, of course, getting some black-and-white pictures done. We don't want to say this...
