Miracle Workers has come to an end. TBS has canceled the anthology comedy series, its last remaining live-action comedy, after four seasons. The Season 4 finale, which is now the series finale, aired August 28.
The cancellation is not entirely unexpected. Deadline’s Nellie Andreeva reported in January that Season 4 could be the last. At the time, she heard that TBS no longer had options on the cast, led by Daniel Radcliffe, so new deals would need to be made for a possible fifth season — a daunting proposition, which networks rarely resort to. But she heard that the series’ creative team had an idea for a potential fifth season that Radcliffe was excited about, so, if Season 4 did well ratings-wise, it was possible that the show could have continued with Radcliffe, who would have needed to make a new pact.

TBS original comedy “Miracle Workers” has been canceled after four seasons, Variety has confirmed. The cancellation comes just months after the series finale aired in August.
Set in a post-apocalyptic future, Season 4 (aptly titled “End Times”) of the anthology comedy picked up with wasteland warrior (Daniel Radcliffe) and a ruthless warlord (Geraldine Viswanathan) as they face the most dystopian nightmare of all: settling down in the suburbs. “Together they navigate the existential horrors of married life and small-town living, all under the dubious guidance of a wealthy junk trader (Steve Buscemi),” reads the description. Previous seasons covered the Oregon Trail and the Dark Ages.
In addition to Radcliffe and Viswanathan, the series also starred Karan Soni (“Deadpool”) and Jon Bass (“She-Hulk: Attorney at Law”), and Karan Soni. Guest stars this season include, Quinta Brunson (“Abbott Elementary”), Garcelle Beauvais (“Real Housewives of Beverly Hills”), Kyle Mooney (“Saturday Night Live”), Ego Nwodim...

Nasim Pedrad’s “Chad” had its formal premiere on Tuesday to nearly 700,000 total viewers, according to TBS.
The comedy, which stars the “Saturday Night Live” alum as a 14-year-old boy, currently stands as the year’s top-rated scripted comedy series on cable, thanks to a sneak peek after the Syracuse-Houston NCAA game last month.
In total, the premiere episode was watched by 1.9 million viewers across the two airings, with 765,000 in the coveted 18-49 demographic.
“From the moment Nasim came to the first table read as Chad, I knew this series was bound for success,” Brett Weitz, general manager for TBS, TNT and truTV, said. “Nasim is a four-hyphen-superstar; as creator-writer-ep-actor, she Is Chad, and her work and this series reinforces our commitment to always deliver a good time and laugh-out-loud scripted comedy.”

On Wednesday morning, Mike Catherwood spent an hour on a call with Quibi executives for his new animated project, “Rudy.” Then, he went to pick up his daughter from school. By the time he got home, Quibi was dead.
“I have to assume that those executives didn’t know,” Catherwood told Variety. “Otherwise they’re really good actors. Because we had an hourlong conversation about moving forward in scripts, like what’s working on script number three and what’s not. To then read the news, I was completely blown away.”
Catherwood, whose project had been greenlighted, but not yet officially announced, is one of presumably dozens of series creators and showrunners who find themselves — and their shows — in limbo now that Quibi has called it quits.

Nasim Pedrad wanted to create a comedy with a Middle Eastern character that wasn’t “acting against Jack Bauer” in TBS’ Chad.
Saturday Night Live alumna Pedrad, who is starring as a 14-year-old pubescent Persian boy in the single-camera comedy, opened up the Chad panel at the Winter TCA press tour with a passionate response to a question about Iran.
Pedrad, who was born in Iran, said she didn’t think the comedic elements of the show would land any differently in light of the recent conflict between Iran and the U.S. “My heart is with the Iranian people,” she added. “I think the people of Iran are not dissimilar to us. They want freedom and peace. I’m so in awe of their resilience and strength as they continue to stand up against this regime and fight for basic human rights. I fully support them.”
She added that growing up in the U.

It was a busy day in pre-upfront broadcast network land, with Fox deciding the fate of all of its pilots (nine picked up to series, six dead) and NBC narrowing down the field by passing on 7 pilots. No major surprises, with none of the hot NBC pilots getting the ax. That includes front-runners on the drama side Blacklist and Crisis (Rand Ravich), which are moving on, along with Ironside, Believe, I Am Victor and After Hours as well as strong comedies About A Boy, Welcome To The Family, Family Guide, Assistance, Sean Hayes, and Undateable, plus dark horses Craig Robinson and John Mulaney and even darker horse Robert Padnick. Exclusive: NBC comedy pilot Girlfriend In A Coma will be recasting its lead following the departure of Christina Ricci. I hear Ricci left the project after the table read. She was the first major cast member to board the pilot, which has been a favorite of NBC brass. As part of Ricci’s casting, the pilot was slated to film in New York where she is based. It is unclear whether production will now stay in New York or move to Los Angeles. Written by Liz Brixius based on Douglas Coupland’s book, Girlfriend In A Coma centers on Karen, a woman who was in a coma for many years and unexpectedly wakes up to find she has a 17-year-old daughter, Evie (Miranda Cosgrove). Daniel Stern and Ann Cusack play Karen’s parents, who have been raising Evie. Recastings are an unfortunate but unavoidable part of pilot season when 100 pilots...

Young New York comedian Josh Rabinowitz is departing NBC‘s untitled Robert Padnick/Greg Daniels comedy pilot, from 3 Arts and Universal TV.
