After leaving Verve last month, Bill Weinstein and Devon Schiff are joining Paradigm in the literary content department, the agency has announced.
“In this business, whether collaborating or going head-to-head, there is no denying the creativity, intelligence and passion that Bill and Devon bring to their work. This relentless advocacy on behalf of clients is a great fit with the artist-led approach that remains the core value of Paradigm,” said Paradigm Talent Agency managing partner Andrew Ruf.
The hirings come after nearly a month of rumors and jockeying for Weinstein, who in February was ousted as the CEO of Verve, the agency he co-founded with Bryan Besser and Adam Levine. Shortly after he ouster, it was reported that Weinstein would be starting his own operation, taking three Verve agents — Schiff, Matthew Doyle and Jake Dillman — with him.

Ray Richmond contributes to Deadline’s conference coverage. A group of cable network execs and producers shared their views on the ever-evolving reality TV landscape and how the sales game is changed this afternoon during a Produced By panel sponsored by Deadline Hollywood and entitled, “Reality Isn’t What it Used to Be: Selling Nonfiction Television.” “You used to be able to sell a show off of paper; you didn’t need tape,” recalled Stephanie Drachkovitch, a principal in 44 Blue Productions. “That’s much harder to do now. Also, what would have been a brilliant idea three years ago doesn’t make the bar. It’s not big enough, it’s not loud enough, it’s not gonna move the needle, it’s not gonna break through.” The reason for needing bigger and noisier programming ideas, she believes, is the sheer number of networks and venues doing original reality program content and vying for eyeballs.

Four-and-a-half months after it was announced, Humanitas' New Voices initiatives for emerging TV writers has received its first four script orders from participating studios/networks. Back in November, 20th Century Fox TV, NBC Universal, CBS, ABC Studios, Lionsgate and HBO each made blind commitments to buy two scripts written by up-and-coming writers under the supervision of a Humatitas’ Trustee or Board member. Since then, FX has joined the group, bringing the total number of blind script commitments to 14. And now, 20th TV, its cable division Fox 21, CBS TV Studios and ABC Studios has each ordered one pilot script, with a fifth script deal pending. 20th TV has bought a pilot script for Mambo Palace, a single-camera comedy by Luisa Leschin, with Humanitas Trustee Ali LeRoi, creator of Everybody Hates Chris, supervising. CBS Studios has ordered Neil Cohen’s single-camera script Judge School, which is being supervised by Trustee Gary David Goldberg.

Steven Seagal's A&E reality show is getting a sequel.
The network has renewed "Steven Seagal: Lawman" for a second season. A&E is picking up 16 episodes of the docudrama from ITV Studios and Steamroller Prods., an increase from the first season's 13.
Seagal and his Sheriffs Department colleagues again will protect the people of New Orleans, but this time the production filmed during Mardi Gras.
"It presents some unique challenges to the police force and Seagal; there's such a high volume of people you never quite know what you're going to get," said Robert Sharenow, who executive produces the series with Seagal, John X. Kim, Phillip B. Goldfine and Neil A. Cohen
Season 1 of "Lawman" was a success for the network, averaging 2.1 million viewers and 1.3 million adults 18-49, making it A&E's best freshman performance by an original series in total viewers.
