Biopics are a rage in several film industries. Both the West and the Hindi film industries are tapping into stories of human beings who have achieved extraordinary things for themselves and society. Bradley Cooper in Maestro, Randeep Hooda in Swatantra Veer Savarkar, Diljit Dosanjh in Amar Singh Chamkila, and Sara Ali Khan in Ae Watan mere Watan are some of the stars who’ve recently performed in biopics. Adding to this list is Srikanth, starring Rajkumar Rao as Srikanth Bolla, who happens to be India’s visually challenged entrepreneur who set up industries that offered jobs only to physically challenged men and women. Directed by Tushar Hiranandani, the movie chronicles the life and struggles of Srikanth Bolla as he strives to be treated equally and not as a person who forever needs sympathy.
Spoilers Ahead
What happened when Srikanth was born?
Srikanth was born in 1992 in Machilipatnam, Andhra Pradesh, to a family of farmers.

Rajkummar Rao is all set to bring the inspiring story of industrialist Srikanth Bolla to the screen as the actor is playing the lead role in his biopic named Srikanth. On Tuesday, the trailer of the film was released online.
The film looks like an inspiring tale of a visually challenged man who fought against all odds for his education, and then later made it his mission in life to help other visually challenged people by giving them education and employment opportunities.
The trailer opens with Rao’s Srikanth as he tells former President Apj Abdul Kalam that he wants to become “India’s first visually challenged President”. Jyotika plays his teacher in the film who helps him in suing the education system that does not allow him to study science in higher classes as there isn’t enough infrastructure for the same.

On Saturday, June 3, Husain, 66, passed on, leaving behind a legacy of memorable stage productions.
He is survived by his wife and creative partner, Viraat Talwar, whom he met when she was a student of Lady Shri Ram College and had come to audition for a play (‘Dangerous Liaison’), and their two sons.
If ‘The Fifty Day War’ narrated the Kargil story on a scale that had not been attempted by anyone with an original Indian script on an Indian stage, ‘The Legend of Ram’, which was staged on a smaller scale in 1994, became the gold standard for theatrical spectacles when it was relaunched in 2004.
The production of ‘The Legend of Ram’ involved 19 outdoor sets spread over three acres and a cast of 35 actors playing different characters drawn from the epic, and a 100-member technical crew. The last show was staged in front of the then President, A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, on...

BiopicsAlmost every “fictionalised” or “dramatised” biopic which has come out in the recent past has such huge dollops of masala that the truth is absolutely subsumed. How much artistic licence can a filmmaker take while narrating the “true” life story of a contemporary individual? There is a lot more room to exercise “artistic creativity” if the persons in question lived in the distant historic past. Our knowledge about them is usually patchy, either because their lives were not properly documented or because the nuances have got lost in the mists of time. A bit of imagination can make them come alive. If the characters are mythological then the filmmaker can go to town! Fantasy films, which the teens are so fond of, have mythical figures mingling with contemporary humans and have fluid time barriers. But what happens when filmmakers combine facts, fictional history and fantasy when narrating the stories of contemporary people,...

City-based veteran sculptor Susanta Ray is attracting headlines after crafting a wax statue of late actor Sushant Singh Rajput. Local residents and the media are flocking his residence to catch a glimpse of his new wax creation.
"I have never met Sushant Singh Rajput. I made his wax statue only by seeing his photographs. Also, the statue has been made after his death, so the question of taking measurements doesn't arise. It has a height of 5 feet 10 inches, waist is 34 inches and weighs approximately 22kg," Ray told Ians.
"I share my first name with Sushant and we both are artistes. I am a sculptor and he was an actor. That is how I connected with him while making his statue. Because if you don't get into a person's character while making their statue, you cannot bring life in it," the 64-year-old sculptor added.
