‘After the Party’ in the U.K.
Channel 4 has acquired U.K. rights to the acclaimed New Zealand drama “After the Party” from Lingo Pictures.
The six-part series, co-created by and starring Robyn Malcolm (“Black Bird”), follows Penny Wilding, a mother, teacher and environmental activist, whose life imploded five years earlier after she accused her husband Phil, played by Peter Mullan, of a sex crime and nobody believed her.
When Penny’s now ex-husband returns to town, her daughter pressures her to let go of her accusations and move on. As her old furies rise to the surface, Penny must decide what’s more important – the truth or rebuilding her relationships with the people around her.
Co-created by Dianne Taylor, “After the Party” was produced by Australia’s Lingo Pictures and Luminous Beast in New Zealand as an original commission for New Zealand’s Tvnz in association with and distributed by ITV Studios.

You can check it out in the embed above.

Robert Finster has landed the title role in “Freud,” the upcoming Netflix and Orf series set during the father of psychoanalysis’ younger years, and which imagines him on the trail of a murderer.
Austrian actor Finster has starred in several German-language movies and series. With Netflix taking “Freud” global, and German-language series such as “Dark” performing well on the streaming service, this is sure to boost his international profile.
Ella Rumpf has been cast as Fleur Salomé, the infamous medium who teams up with Freud alongside war veteran Alfred Kiss, played by Georg Friedrich. Swiss actress Rumpf starred in Julia Ducournau’s “Raw” and was named in the 2018 edition of Variety’s 10 Europeans to Watch. Austrian actor Friedrich’s film credits include “Wild,” and “Aloys.”

Netflix is set to produce a new thriller called Freud, which will center around a young Sigmund Freud as he is hunting down a serial killer in the 19th century alongside a medium named Fleur Salomé and a surly war veteran and police inspector named Kiss.
This certainly sounds like it could make for an interesting series! I love the concept and it's sure to deliver and dark and disturbing story.
This is a German-language murder thriller that will be developed in Austria. Netflix has found success with their other German series Dark, so they are looking to dive into another German project.
Freud actually studied in Vienna and is considered the founder of psychoanalysis, but this whole thing of hunting down a serial killer is a fictionalized account.
The eight-part series will be directed by Marvin Kren who previously worked on the TNT Series hit original drama 4 Blocks.

Netflix has boarded Freud, a German-language period crime thriller that sees the young eponymous psychoanalyst involved in a nerve-racking investigation into a murderous conspiracy. The co-production from Satel Film/Bavaria Fiction for Orf and Netflix is set in Vienna and is the streaming service’s first Austrian original. Zdf Enterprises is distributing internationally.
The story sees Sigmund Freud in Vienna in 1886, just as his revolutionary theories are being met with strong opposition from colleagues and wider Austrian society. It’s at this time he meets the war veteran and policeman Alfred Kiss and notorious medium Fleur Salomé and unwittingly becomes part of the hunt for a serial killer.
The thriller will blend its period setting with a contemporary style, and is billed as a modern, sexy and suspenseful take on the life of the celebrated doctor.
Directed by Marvin Kren, Freud is currently casting the eight-episode series. Production...

The Red Granite International subsidiary has dropped a Marcus Nispel project into the Cannes market in the form of the maritime horror film.
Scott Sandler, Connor Colebrook and Juhani Nurmi wrote the screenplay to Stowaway from a story by Nispel (pictured) and Nurmi.
Los Angeles-based producers White Sands Pictures have earmarked an autumn start on the story of a woman who takes a yacht trip with her fiancé’s family, unaware of the clan’s secret that lies at the bottom of the ocean.
Stowaway is inspired by the Norse myth about an avenging seaborne humanoid creature and the production will benefit from the services of creature feature expert Mike Elizade of SpectralMotion.
Nispel, whose credits include Pathfinder, Conan The Barbarian and the upcoming Exeter, produces alongside Stefan Brunner. The executive producer is White Sands founder Juergen J Straub.

"Friday the 13th" and "Pathfinder" director Marcus Nispel has come on board to helm the horror-thriller "Stowaway" for White Sands Pictures.
The horror-thriller is based on Nordic mythology about an avenging sea creature. The action revolves around a yacht where a newly engaged woman discovers a family secret at the bottom of the ocean.
The tone is said to be that of an "edgy and original R-rated monster movie" with a beast that is "humanoid and strikes from below dark waters".
Nispel and Juhani Nurmi created the story which Scott Sandler, Connor Colebrook and Nurmi are adapting into a script. Nispel and Stefan Brunner will produce. Filming is slated to begin this Fall.

Exclusive: Imagenation has experienced quite an executive shake-up in recent weeks. CEO Ed Borgerding left the Abu Dhabi-based film fund last week while COO Stefan Brunner exited shortly before that. The new CEO Michael Garin has spent the last 3½ years on the Executive Committee of Imagenation’s parent company Abu Dhabi Media Company. The former CEO of TV broadcaster Central European Media Enterprises, Garin was previously head of media at Dutch investment bank Ing and before that worked at Lorimar-Telepictures, which was eventually swallowed up by Warner Bros. I’m hearing that the reason why Borgerding left was because he was appointed by former Abu Dhabi Media Company chairman Mohamed Khalaf al Mazrouei and not its current chairman, Mohamed Mubarak Al Mazrouei. “Ed never had a personal relationship or the trust of Mohamed,” one source tells me. “Mohamed was put in charge to change things. How do you change things?...

Exclusive: He’s followed Stefan Brunner, ex-coo, out of the door. It is understood that Rami Yasin, the Arab-language production head of the $1 billion Abu Dhabi film fund, has also left. Frank Moory, CFO of Imagenation’s parent the Abu Dhabi Media Company, will run Imagenation for now while the board looks for a new CEO. In an email to staff, chairman Mohamed Mubarak Al Mazrouei said that Borgerding has decided “to concentrate on independent projects”. Borgerding, a former Disney executive, joined Imagenation in March 2008. Imagenation’s spokesman was unavailable for comment. Imagenation Abu Dhabi, the $1 billion film fund, launched in September 2008 and has announced a string of high-profile partnerships – including a $250 million joint venture with Participant Media; a $250 million deal with Hyde Park Entertainment; a $100 million deal with National Geographic; and a $10 million revolving development fund with Parkes/Macdonald (Dinner For Schmucks) to invest in projects developed through their DreamWorks first-look deal.

I've learned that the Abu Dhabi-based film financier is talking to European producers in France and Germany about investing in projects. This may turn into a longer-term joint venture, like the ones Imagenation has already sealed with Hollywood producers including Parkes/Macdonald and Participant. It’s puzzled me as to why this Arab financier has not done any deals with European companies yet. It’s announced $600 million worth of joint ventures with Hollywood, yet European film companies such as Constantin of Germany or Italian producer Cattleya have their own studio links. Europe is closer to the Gulf than Los Angeles, and, it has to be said, a lot closer in terms of mindset.
