Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet have been shipped together by fans since their Titanic days. But it was only recently that Winslet found out about one of the popular internet memes pairing the two together.

One of the most successful cinematic universes in Hollywood doesn't have any superheroes, isn't set in outer space, and wasn't originally designed as a cinematic universe at all. James Wan's 2013 horror movie "The Conjuring" was made on a budget of just $20 million but became a stunning box office success, grossing more than $320 million worldwide. That success has since spawned a whole world of horror that includes not only two "Conjuring" sequels, but also the spin-off "Annabelle" trilogy, two "Nun" movies, and (tenuously) "The Curse of La Llorona."
A big part of what makes the "Conjuring" movies so frightening is their commitment to practical effects. The strangest supernatural feats are achieved using wire work, contortionists, and stunt performers, while monsters like the Nun and the Crooked Man are real actors in make-up.

What is a perfectionist’s biggest dilemma? Is it keeping oneself restricted to an artistic niche, or does one compromise one’s vision by catering to the interests of the masses? As a musician with a never-ending artist’s block, I find that some nuances of my own artistic approach align with the protagonist’s disposition portrayed in Cord Jefferson’s American Fiction.
The narrative is a commentary on the post-modern capitalistic interests of White America—the section of an elite privileged society hidden behind the guise of liberalism. Cord Jefferson sheds light on how America’s literary and visual art institutions choose to dissect the struggles of Black people and the tenets of Black liberalism. Their portrayal of the African-American minority in art is often restricted to stereotypes of them being marginalized. On the flip side, the public empathizes with this portrayal and prefers being inside this echo chamber,...

Formally, she’s Queen Camilla. But for years before, when the 76-year-old was behind closed doors with family, she was known as something else. According to a new royal biography, the queen’s family gave her a cheeky moniker in reference to her current title. While Queen Camilla got a kick out of the nickname, King Charles III reportedly hated it.
Queen Camilla’s family nicknamed her ‘Lorraine’ after a certain French word
In The Making of a King: King Charles III and the Modern Monarchy, author Robert Hardman revealed that before taking the throne alongside her husband of nearly 20 years in 2022, Queen Camilla had a humorous nickname from her family.
Relatives called her “Lorraine” from the French “La Reine,” meaning “the queen,” according to an excerpt published in the Daily Mail. It was a nod to where Queen Camilla was headed in the British royal family and where she now resides.

Spoiler Alert: This story contains spoilers for Season 5 of “Fargo,” now airing on FX and streaming on Hulu.
Juno Temple leads the fifth season of “Fargo” as Dorothy “Dot” Lyon, a Minnesota housewife whose past begins to catch up to her. When Roy Tillman (Jon Hamm), the abusive ex-husband she escaped, sets out to find her, her survivalist side is revealed. As she lays out booby traps and lights men on fire to avoid being kidnapped, she earns the fitting nickname of “tiger.”
But for Temple, what made Dot a compelling character was not just the traits that made her a tiger, but also the qualities that made her a good mother. The show’s creator Noah Hawley told Variety that Dot’s true weapon is her kindness — which Temple said she “couldn’t agree more with.” She added that Dot also wanted deeply to have a mother figure of her own.

Warning: The following post contains spoilers about tonight’s fifth season finale of FX’s Fargo, “Bisquik”
Who knew a TV series based on an iconic Oscar-winning Coen Brothers noir movie had so much juice in it five seasons out?
But Fargo series creator Noah Hawley continues to prove that there’s a thousand bodies buried in those Minnesota snow drifts.
Granted, M.A.S.H. ran for 11 seasons; the industry joke being that the CBS show ran longer than the actual three-year Korean War. But similar to how Larry Gelbart pulled a relentless amount of inspiration from that 1970 Robert Altman, Hawley’s mind for ‘true stories’ about folksy Scandinavian-Midwesterners isn’t blank yet like a freshly fallen snow.
Typically, especially in streaming times, a series checks out around season 3, and to see Fargo in a renaissance, testosterone mode this season has even given Hawley a new sense of hope for the FX series.

A 10-episode season is far too short a time to spend with Dot, Wayne, Scotty, Lorraine, Witt, Roy, Indira, and, yes, even Gator. Unfortunately, that’s all we get with FX’s Fargo season five as episode 10, “Bisquik,” brings the second-best season of the series to a close.
The season finale opens with the now-blind Gator (Joe Keery) deserted by his dad and left to make it back to the ranch on his own. He whines as he repeatedly falls and then eventually makes it into the secret tunnel almost by accident.
Gator emerges from the tunnel in a field and is immediately spotted by the FBI. He throws up his hands, no longer the arrogant vape-addict we’ve come to know and loathe.
Meanwhile, “patriots” line the ranch’s fence on Roy Tillman’s orders, fully prepared to take on the FBI. North Dakota Deputy Witt Farr (Lamorne Morris...

Fargo’s fifth season wrapped up on Tuesday in classic Fargo fashion: with a hail of bullets and plenty of bloodshed — and then a nice home-cooked meal.
We open on the frozen North Dakota tundra, with a blinded Gator hobbling around and whimpering until he finds a hut and feels his way down a long underground tunnel. He emerges through an escape hatch located just off Roy’s property, where the feds and a Swat team are preparing, guns drawn, for a standoff with Roy and his goons. Roy gets mocked by his father-in-law for tolerating weak women and sons…...

This article contains spoilers for Fargo season 5 episode 10 and No Country for Old Men.
After an underwhelming fourth season, FX’s Fargo found excellence again with season 5. The fifth season of this anthology series inspired by the Coen Brothers’ film and created by TV auteur Noah Hawley returned to the “present” (or 2019 at least) for an inspired yarn about family, debt, and the creeping fascistic rot in small town America.
The cast was at the top of their game including Juno Temple (Ted Lasso) as the resourceful Dorothy “Dot” Lyon and Jon Hamm (Mad Men) as “constitutional” sheriff Roy Tillman. Fargo season 5 didn’t need to stick the landing for its 10-episode saga about Dot winning her life back from the abusive Roy to have weight. Still, a good ending would have been one hell of a bonus. That ending arrives in the final episode “Bisquik” and thankfully, it’s a good one.

FX’s Fargo season five episode eight, the season’s penultimate episode, is one of the series’ finest hours of storytelling. It opens with Ole Munch (Sam Spruell) punishing Gator (Joe Keery) for his innumerable acts of cruelty, topped off by the murder of Ole’s elderly mother.
Gator tries to bribe Ole into letting him go, but Ole doesn’t care one iota about promises of women, weapons, or cash. Tied to a chair, Gator can only whimper and beg as he realizes Ole’s about to take a red-hot knife to his eyes. An eye for an eye, correct? “This for that,” says Ole, adding, “What is taken must be given.”
Over at the Tillman Ranch, Dot (Juno Temple) is back in the game after a brief moment of despair at the end of episode seven.

The sports book is reopening after Max renewed Bookie, starring Sebastian Maniscalco, for a second season.
The renewal comes two weeks after the season one finale of the show, which comes from Chuck Lorre and Nick Bakay.
The series, which premiered on November 30, follows bookie Danny (Maniscalco) as he and his partner, former NFL star Ray (Omar Dorsey), romp around Los Angeles trying to keep their illegal sports betting operation in play.
Season 2 presumably will show whether Danny [Spoiler Alert] can win back the affections of his wife Sandra, played by Andrea Anders, after his Super Bowl win seems to have torn them apart, as well as Ray dealing with the fallout of his mother’s wedding, which saw the groom seemingly die at the altar.

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for Fargo Year 5, Episode 7, “Linda.”] Fargo isn’t new to tackling the surreal, and the latest Year 5 installment, “Linda,” does just that as Dot (Juno Temple) takes a trippy journey down the road to Camp Utopia. As fans will recall, Dot was seen driving away from having dropped off her daughter Scotty (Sienna King) at Indira Olmstead’s (Richa Moorjani) home in Episode 5. She resurfaced in the form of battered photos enclosed in a file presented to Lorraine (Jennifer Jason Leigh) in Episode 6, and now, viewers rejoined Dot on the road. Sleepy and motivated, she keeps inching her way toward a destination we have yet to understand. Upon stopping at a rest area for a bite to eat, Dot smiles down at her stack of pancakes before continuing her “journey.” Following her to a windmill, viewers see Dot dig up a postcard to Camp Utopia with a message from Linda that reads,...

There’s something to be said about the kind of methodic lunacy Noah Hawley stuffs his show with. It’s not the usual, very obvious kind, of course, considering that’d so not sit well in the belly of the treacherous monster that is Fargo—wearing the skin of chaotic normalcy only to reveal its deranged realities later. Fargo is allergic to normalcy. So why should you expect this season’s tigress to not have to maul more than one skilled hunter?

How Does Dot Avoid Capture?
It would’ve been a bit too tacky if the Home Alone tactics worked against the weasels sent by the big Roy. Dot doesn’t need all that jazz to be who she is. Not that the makeshift weaponry doesn’t come in handy from time to time. But you have to admit that it’s Dot’s quick-as-a-cat reflexes that win her freedom.

Bookie is a comedy that starts to grow on you once the choppy and nervous writing becomes more accessible with more and more episodes. One can begin to predict even what the next comic movie is going to be, and that’s a problem, but the show benefits from the charm of the lead characters. They get bent out of shape but have their joyful moments, and in the new episodes, I got a hint of a bit of pathos as well, which was unexpected. In a way, the seventh and eighth episodes represent Danny’s microcosm. In the beginning, he is on top, and by the end of the eighth episode, he finds himself hitting rock bottom, and it’s all done with humor, giving every other character a chance to show their acting chops as well.

When it comes to Fargo, Midwest accents are aplenty among the array of characters Noah Hawley has presented viewers with over the years. But one Year 5 performance continues to befuddle viewers as Jennifer Jason Leigh‘s accent for Lorraine Lyon strays from the usual form. Questions from fans on social media abound around Lorraine’s somewhat Mid-Atlantic dialect, with some pondering why she’s using it and where it comes from. “Not really sure what kind of accent Jennifer Jason Leigh is aiming for Fargo…,” one fan noted. “I don’t know what accent Jennifer Jason Leigh has but she’s ready to destroy you with each syllable,” another viewer acknowledged. (Credit: Michelle Faye/FX) Echoing the sentiment, another viewer wrote, “I’m still really confused about what accent Jennifer Jason Leigh is supposed to have in Fargo.” Thankfully, TV Insider has an answer for you as we caught up...

If the fifth season of FX’s “Fargo” looks a little familiar to you, all the creators can say to that is…you betcha. Noah Hawley’s Coen-verse thriller series spinoff has sprouted numerous timelines and tangents (the current season even goes back 500 years at one point), but this year’s tense, fiercely comic installment is not at all coy about wanting to put you right back in the universe of the Oscar-winning 1996 classic, even though this incarnation takes place in 2019, only four years ago.

The 12 Days of Creepmas continues on Bloody Disgusting, with the tenth day getting into the anti-festive spirit for all the holiday grinches out there. This is for those that approach December with a “bah humbug” attitude and prefer any iconography or holiday theming to be kept to a minimum when it comes to horror. Most of these ten horror titles are technically set on or around Christmas, but can’t muster up enough cheer to really embrace the holiday spirit. Many of which don’t even bother with Christmas at all, beyond a quick scene or mention.
If you’re already sick of Santa Claus, and all things holiday related, here are ten holiday horror movies – technically – that would rather just cut straight to the horror.
Keep track of the 12 Days of Creepmas here.

The idiosyncratic lives of two bookies, Danny and Ray, continue as they try to manage their daily affairs, getting into trouble and finding their ways out of them. The fifth and sixth episodes of Bookie introduced a few new characters, and we got a glimpse of how Danny had used his brains to deal with threatening situations over the years and hasn’t lost that touch to this day. Bookie is a comedy that doesn’t miss its chance to comment on racial stereotypes and pop culture references. For example, in Bookie Episode 5, Ray threatens to kill a young boy in ‘gangster style,’ and then jokes about it with Danny about how people believe his empty threats because he is a heavyset, black man who roams around with the Italian Danny. Filled with such references all over, Bookie is building itself up to be a decent comedy show that must...

After working on series such as Succession and 2019’s Watchmen, Cord Jefferson has made his feature directorial debut with American Fiction, a satire-meets-family-drama that picked up the top audience award at Toronto International Film Festival and is now coming to theaters this holiday season. Following Thelonious “Monk” Ellison (Jeffrey Wright), a teacher and writer in a rut, he concocts an elaborate joke to get more fame and acceptance. It’s taken shocking seriously, setting off a series of misadventures exploring how white America is more willing to accept the most reductive, pandering stories of Black trauma versus something that rings holistically authentic.
Following its TIFF premiere and head of a release beginning this week, I spoke with Jefferson about the tonal balance of satire and comedy in the film, the varied range of influences, working with Jeffrey Wright and the incredible cast, collaborating with Rian Johnson, and more. Also, check...

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for Fargo Year 5, Episode 5, “The Tiger.”] Fargo‘s latest episode, “The Tiger,” saw Dot Lyon’s (Juno Temple) two worlds collide as her abusive first husband Roy Tillman (Jon Hamm) sought help from her current icy mother-in-law Lorraine Lyon (Jennifer Jason Leigh). Thinking he could use his powers of persuasion, the sheriff was less than productive in retrieving Dot from Lorraine’s clutches as both were unaware of the woman’s own escape attempt from the local hospital’s psychiatric ward. Setting forth the facts in his eyes, Roy tells Lorraine that Dot owes him a debt, something she should understand, and as his “property” should be returned. Lorraine isn’t one to be metaphorically man-handled though, flipping Roy’s argument on its head by informing the sheriff that after something goes missing for seven years, it no longer has an owner, and if they’re basing things on technicalities, it...

Dot the Tiger (Juno Temple) orders Lorraine Lyon (Jennifer Jason Leigh) out of Wayne’s hospital room as FX’s riveting season five of Fargo continues with episode five. Lorraine’s not used to having her will be thwarted and considers what to do next about the Dot and Wayne situation.
Lorraine knows Dot’s a wolf in sheep’s clothing, but how do you handle a wild animal without getting bitten?
Dot and family have moved into Lorraine’s mansion, and Lorraine wrongly believes she has them under her thumb. Like the tiger, Dot has a cunning and strategic mind. A fact that’s made apparent when Lorraine conspires with her chief counselor, Danish Graves (David Foley), to have Dot locked up in a psychiatric ward.

Bookie is an interesting show that explores the wacky lives of people who are not ‘normal’ and live right on the edge of the criminal world. In the previous episodes, Ray and Danny had crossed the edge and came back, it seems, when Danny had shot a man who had tried to mug them. They did have Charlie Sheen’s expensive Mille watch, which Danny was flaunting. In the new episodes, Danny seems to have gotten away with his crimes scot-free, but gets into trouble when dealing with a mysterious character named Jack. Lorraine and Hector start a plan of their own to get a little side income going when they plan to start a ‘shamanic’ course for ‘troubled souls,’ selling them a whiff of enlightenment. Some of it works, while the rest goes down the drain.

This isn’t the first time Noah Hawley’s show has trespassed into a realm that isn’t too keen on keeping a healthy, amicable relationship with beings of flesh and blood. But this may just be the first time that Fargo is truly terrifying. We’re done with the chucklesome flying saucers and antagonists who seem practically otherworldly. Frankly, none of that had the air of menace that surrounds the main villain of this season—Ole Munch—holding us hostage in the limbo where we’re unsure as to what it is we’re dealing with here. The bloodcurdling fear that Hawley associates with the otherwise much-played-out theme of debt is what keeps the air heavy in the third episode of Fargo season 5. God might’ve checked out already. Who saves Dot and the people after her?

Whenever I feel that there isn’t a strange half-hour comedy series streaming somewhere that has both shocking violence and offbeat pop culture commentary, something pops up. I’m lying; it rarely does, as it’s hard to make that kind of show. Bookie, the new series starring Sebastian Maniscalco and Omar Dorsey, seems to be a one-of-a-kind show. Written by Chuck Lorre of Two and a Half Men fame, the show feels like it’s a cross between the movies of Jim Jarmusch and Woody Allen. There is comedy, of course, but there are some disturbing scenes as well, which might not affect you that much as they are immediately undercut by nonchalant sequences, but they have a subtext that is discussed in the witty dialogue. Sebastian and Omar work well together, and with the rest of the cast, the show seems to have an overall comedic integrity that...

It’s quite a reunion in today’s premiere of Chuck Lorre’s new Max comedy series Bookie.
The episode revisits the poker scene in Lorre’s Two and a Half Men pilot, which reunites Lorre’s Two and a Half Men alums Charlie Sheen and Angus T. Jones.
In the Bookie premiere, Danny, played by Sebastian Maniscalco, heads to Malibu to collect a debt from Sheen, whom he finds at a rehab facility. But Sheen isn’t a patient at the facility; he’s actually hosting a weekly poker game, and one of the players is “Half Man” Angus T. Jones, who played 8-year-old Jake Harper opposite Sheen on Two and a Half Men. The scene also includes the same poker buddies who attended Charlie Harper’s poker game in 2003.
Lorre spoke about the scene in an interview with Extra. “Charlie and I were discussing recreating that poker scene.

One might think TV would take a break during the week of Thanksgiving, but they’d be wrong. The fifth installment of Noah Hawley’s “Fargo” premiered this week on FX. A return to form for the Emmy-winning anthology series, the darkly funny new season is set in 2019 and stars Emmy nominee Juno Temple as Dot Lyon, a Midwestern housewife and mother whose past begins to catch up with her after she’s arrested at a school board meeting for accidentally tasering a cop.
As has become the norm, this season of “Fargo” is ridiculously stacked with talent. Emmy winner Jon Hamm, who is coming off the third season of “The Morning Show,” portrays Roy Tillman, a larger-than-life North Dakota sheriff looking for Dot with the help of his son Gator, portrayed by “Stranger Things” fan favorite Joe Keery. Meanwhile, Jennifer Jason Leigh more than holds her own as Dot’s wealthy and disapproving mother-in-law,...

“Minnesota nice” isn’t how I’d describe the biblical school board meeting brawl that pulls us into the 5th season of Noah Hawley’s freaky take on the 1996 Coen brothers classic, Fargo. But then again, when does Hawley’s show ever domesticate itself within the frame it constructs in every season? I didn’t see a fifth season coming and giving us another chance to gawk at some bizarre happenings around Minnesota. And boy, have I missed the snowy terrain preserving trippy secrets and loops of convoluted family dynamics!

Plot: The latest installment of Fargo is set in Minnesota and North Dakota, 2019. After an unexpected series of events lands Dorothy ‘Dot’ Lyon in hot water with the authorities, this seemingly typical Midwestern housewife is suddenly plunged back into a life she thought she had left behind.
Review: Before the first season of Fargo premiered in 2014, I thought it was a bad idea. It should have been a clue that Noah Hawley’s series would be a masterpiece since it came with The Coen Brothers’ approval. A decade later, the fifth entry in the anthology series is arriving, set in the pre-pandemic year of 2019. Following the series alternating historical and contemporary timelines, the new season trades period settings of the 1970s and 1920s for a familiar-looking world anchored in the political divide of liberals and conservatives that raged those four long years ago. But, rather than being a story about politics,...

Seeking some clarity, Lorraine exercises her power by showing up, unannounced, at her son Wayne (David Rysdahl) and daughter-in-law’s home, settling in the kitchen until Dot arrives with her daughter Scotty (Sienna King). It’s not truly a new season of FX’s Fargo until the fake disclaimer advising this is a true story appears on the screen. That happens three minutes into season five episode one, “The Tragedy of the Commons.”
Before that, Fargo fans are advised that “Minnesota Nice” is an aggressively pleasant demeanor put on no matter how rotten life becomes. And “rotten” is a gentle word to describe the mood at the middle school’s Fall Festival Planning Committee meeting. Punches are thrown, hair is pulled, and the woman we’ll be cheering for this season – Dorothy ‘Dot’ Lyon (Juno Temple) – sits, jaw-dropped, scanning the room. She advises her daughter, Scotty (Sienna King), that it’s time to make an exit and to fight back if anyone chases them.

Fargo‘s fifth installment is filled with a unique array of characters, among which is Dave Foley‘s Danish Graves. Yes, his moniker resembles that of a breakfast pastry, but don’t expect any deeper explanations because none were provided. Introduced as “the bite to [Lorraine’s] bark,” Foley says, “he executes on the terrible things that Lorraine wants to have happen.” Played by Jennifer Jason Leigh, Lorraine is described as the Debt Queen of the Midwest, and she’s the mother-in-law of Juno Temple‘s Dot Lyon, the woman at the center of Noah Hawley‘s latest FX anthology chapter. As Lorraine’s right-hand man, Danish “gets his hands dirty,” Foley shares from the Calgary set. “He does it because he aspires to be Lorraine. I think he admires her and wants to be as ruthless and cold as she is, but it isn’t quite entirely in his nature.

What they’re looking for is an opportunity to fix it themselves. We give them that.”

When last we saw FX’s Fargo nearly three years ago, its creator, Noah Hawley, had taken the franchise away from its home turf, both physically and demographically. The fourth season roamed hundreds of miles south from the show’s usual Minnesotan stomping grounds for a story set on the mean streets of 1950s Kansas City. And after three seasons of showing all the sins hidden behind the polite veneer of Scandinavian-Americans in the Upper Midwest, this new story focused on a war between Black and Italian mobsters.

Juno Temple has just learned about Jon Hamm’s “Fargo” stunt nipples, and she’s in awe. “A full, fake nipple?,” she asks, turning to her co-star at FX’s “Fargo” Season 5 premiere screening and panel on Nov. 15 at Nya Studios. There’s a lot to unpack with this season’s already critically acclaimed ‘Fargo’ installment, which dives into topics of ‘Minnesota Nice,’ crippling debt and so much more.

After wayward creative detours with the dreary feature film “Lucy in the Sky” and the over-ambitious fourth season of “Fargo,” Noah Hawley gets back on track with the new season of his FX anthology series.
The latest “Fargo” has all the elements writer-producer-showrunner Hawley knows how to deploy. They may be well-worn tropes at this point: chaos agents, deadpan black comedy, hapless hit men, formidable women, hapless feds, a few good cops, perfectly orchestrated bloodshed beats, hapless wrong kidnap victims, Upper Midwest accents you couldn’t cut with a wood chipper and perhaps a supernatural element or two. But they’ve been craftily reimagined.
New in Season 5 is some ongoing criticism of right-wing extremism — both of the economic Darwinian and Christian patriarchal kind — and other hints that it’s politics as much as people’s inherent stupidity that’s tearing America apart. The implicit message is that those factors are...
