Sorry, what's that? Nope, still can't hear you. The sound of angels singing is far too loud. In what is probably the best damned news of the day (or week), Godzilla director Gareth Edwards recently discussed which direction he'd like to go in for the inevitable sequel.
“With the exception of the 1954 original, I would say my second favorite film is Destroy All Monsters,” Edwards tells Screen Rant. “I just love the idea of a monster island. Having a world with these creatures in it. I find that fascinating and would like to treat that realistically. I wouldn’t want to limit it to one other foe; I think it’s more fun to – this question will come back to haunt me if we ever do a sequel – but I think multiple creatures make better movies in terms of the image of Gojira."

While in San Diego for the 2013 Comic-Con, Dread Central had the opportunity to exclusively chat with director Gareth Edwards about all things Godzilla and more.
During our interview, we heard from Edwards about his initial feelings on being offered such an epic opportunity like Godzilla as a follow-up to his 2010 critically-acclaimed indie creature feature Monsters, his approach to balancing the tone and story of the film, his thoughts on the design of Godzilla and more.
Dread Central: It's great talking with you again, especially since we discussed back on Monsters your love of giant monster movies. I have to imagine when you were offered Godzilla that you were pretty psyched- what was going through your head when you got the call from Legendary?
Gareth Edwards: You know, when we were driving around and shooting Monsters, we would have a lot of time to spare in the van so we'd sit around just talking.

On tap right now is a footage description from Legendary Pictures' Godzilla panel in Hall H which was monstrously packed today for the event. We'll keep an eye out for the goods should it hit online or be emailed to us.
“We’re introduced to characters first off: Cranston seems to be an engineer/investigator of some sort — we see him in hazmat gear, and later running towards a crisis event in a government installation as the rest of the staff frantically runs away. Aaron Taylor Johnson is a soldier; Ken Watanabe is seen in a control room of some kind, and Olsen as mentioned above is shown in moments that suggest she’s been a victim of some disaster. A montage of various images shows a world in crisis and deploying military forces to fight some crisis moment.
And then there’s the kaiju attack. The first monster...

With our Kaiju obsession reaching fever pitch thanks to Legendary's Pacific Rim, the main thing we care about this Comic-Con is the Big G himself. With news of an interactive offsite event, Dread Central was one of the first in line to experience The Godzilla Encounter...

Using the Godzilla Encounter app, visitors track down the location to a battle-damaged warehouse outside the Convention Center. So if you've been paying attention to the viral website in promotion of Legendary Pictures' new take on Godzilla, you noticed each image contains letters in the color red. We finally know what it spells, and it should be very familiar to any G-Fan worth his or her salt.
Never mind Rodan, King Ghodiorah, Mecha-Godzilla, Mothra, Destroyah, or even King Kong. Godzilla's most dangerous foe was also the smallest in stature named Daisuke Serizawa-hakase (played in the original Gojira (1954) by famed actor Akihiko Hirata. If you recall, Serizawa created a weapon called "The Oxygen Destroyer," and when Big-g came into contact with it, he was reduced to mere bones. So now that we know the viral images spell out Serizawa, what exactly does that mean, if anything, for Godzilla's appearance at Comic-Con? Stay tuned!

One of the things that annoyed us more than anything in the last American Godzilla flick was the fact that the Iguana-Chicken looking thing didn't even have the common friggin' courtesy to breathe fire. This doesn't seen to be the case with Legendary's new film.

This latest batch of images gives us time to speculate on the origins surrounding Godzilla in the new flick from Legendary Pictures and Warner Brothers. Japan is "officially" under quarantine, and we've got the shots and more!
Below you'll find images of the Japanese quarantine zone (New Westminster), the most interesting of which is a single sign for a nuclear power plant named Janjira. A while back screenwriter Frank Darabont stated that the new film would be dealing with a contemporary event. Is it possible that event is the tragic Tsunami that hit Japan a couple of years ago? Could it have been the reason Janjira melted down? Did this meltdown cause the disaster which finds the city in these images in shambles? Is it also the genesis for Godzilla? Just spitballing here, but if that's the route chosen to go in, it kind of makes sense. We shall see.

Star Trek fans aren't the only ones who are foaming at the mouth to see Star Trek Into Darkness, director J.J. Adams' second installment of the sci-fi franchise. Especially after yesterday's release of the film's new 60-second trailer. "My [talent] agency was just wetting themselves," Benedict Cumberbatch, who plays a villain in the sequel, told me last night at the Children's Defense Fund's Beat the Odds gala at the Beverly Hills Hotel. "They were ringing me up and sending me emails. It's really exciting. I, like everyone else, feel teased. I can't wait to see the whole film now." Costar Zoe Saldana watched the trailer on her iPad after running morning...

"There's something you need to know about me. I came from the garden." Honestly, as strange and peculiar as the first trailer for The Odd Life of Timothy Green seemed, there's a certain kind of magic to a live-action Disney movie like this. Jennifer Garner and Joel Edgerton star in the film, along with C.J. Adams as Timothy Green, a kid that comes from a box buried in their backyard after their inability to have a child on their own leaves with only the dreams of what their offspring might be like. Now we have a new trailer for the film, and while it looks a little sappy, I definitely want to see it later this year. Watch below! Mostly all FX series, which boggles the mind as the network featured fresh and truly funny comedies as well as compelling dramas. Playing the oh-so-serious space commander in the 1956 cult B-movie "Forbidden Planet," no one imagined then that the comic genius of Leslie Nielsen would become so beloved by moviegoers around the globe -- or maybe they could have from that mischievous twinkle in his eye!

When most people think of Leslie Nielsen, they think of spoofs such as Airplane! (1980), The Naked Gun (1988), Dracula: Dead and Loving It (1995), and Wrongfully Accused (1998). Perhaps a little strangely, when I think of Leslie Nielsen, who died at the age of 84 from complications of pneumonia at a Ft. Lauderdale hospital on Sunday, the first thing that comes to mind is the older guy Debbie Reynolds pines for in Joseph Pevney's Tammy and the Bachelor (1957). It's while daydreaming of Nielsen that Reynolds sings Ray Evans and Jay Livingston's ballad "Tammy." Don't laugh. It's actually a charming romantic song. Else, I think of the spaceship commander J. J. Adams in Fred M. Wilcox's 1956 sci-fi classic Forbidden Planet, which features Walter Pidgeon as the off-kilter Dr. Edward Morbius, Anne Francis in a skimpy mini-skirt, Robby the Robot, and a still very much relevant message about the seeds [...]...

Leslie Nielsen, the funnyman who is well known for his somber demeanor and stone-serious face in comedies "Airplane!" and "The Naked Gun", has just passed away. The 84-year-old actor died on Sunday, November 28 at a hospital near his home in Fort Lauderdale, Fla.
"We are saddened by the passing of beloved actor Leslie Nielsen, probably best remembered as Lt. Frank Drebin in 'The Naked Gun' series of pictures, but who enjoyed a more than 60-year career in motion pictures and television," his agent John. S. Kelly said in a statement.
The comedian had been hospitalized for nearly two weeks as a result of pneumonia. He died due to complications of the pneumonia, being surrounded by his wife, family and close friends. "Just in this last 48 hours, the infection has gotten too much," his nephew Doug Nielsen shared. "He just fell asleep and passed away."

As Forbidden Planet makes its Blu-ray debut, we salute this classic of 50s sci-fi cinema…
The 50s was a golden age for big screen sci-fi. The decade saw the appearance of a succession of genre classics, including Destination Moon, The Day The Earth Stood Still, The Thing From Another World, The War Of The Worlds and This Island Earth.
The period's movies reflected America's fascination with the possibilities of future technology, and also a creeping sense of paranoia about the subversive potential of Communism, reflected in spectacular ‘Reds under the bed' films such as Invaders From Mars (1953) and Invasion Of The Body Snatchers (1956), in which an insidious alien menace stripped mankind of its individuality.
Of all those 50s classics, one film stands among them all as a true 50s sci-fi icon. Released in 1956, director Fred M. Wilcox's Forbidden Planet was the most expensive and ambitious genre film to appear...

Have you ever wanted to see a young Leslie Nielsen playing a space-age hero? What if the movie also had the debut of one of science fictions most iconic robots? If neither of these are appealing, perhaps Forbidden Planet can tempt you with a virginal beauty, a mad scientist, and a story that borrows heavily from Shakespeare’s The Tempest. For the casual film watcher, Forbidden Planet is a fun little science fiction film, and for film and science fiction enthusiast, Forbidden Planet influenced Star Wars, John Carpenter’s The Thing, and the Star Trek franchise. With extensive special features and beautiful picture and sound transfer, the blu-ray release of Forbidden Planet should not be missed.

There have been hundreds of incredible science fiction flicks over the past century or so, from the earliest silent films like A Trip to the Moon and Metropolis to vast and mesmerizing space epics like Avatar. There’s something about the mystery and allure of far-off worlds, mankind’s potential for technological wonders, and the potential for those same wonders to prove mankind’s ruin, that bring us back again and again to the stories of what might be.
In the Us, the 1950s was a time that embodied precisely that same allure. We had just emerged victorious from World War II with the power of the atom at our command. In one very literal fell swoop we had taken a tremendous technological stride that held the potential to usher us into a bright and shining future. And yet the terrible power of what we had achieved, and the possibility...
