‘whatever’s comfortable’
Naked Communications has launched the first local campaign for Brown Forman Australian liqueur brand Southern Comfort in over a decade.
The ad features a man who can’t stop body popping, a form of dance, with the tagline ‘whatever’s comfortable.’
Tim Kirby, business lead at Naked Communications, said: “The new positioning for Southern Comfort is refreshingly honest. Our challenge was to change people’s behaviour from just following the herd to having the confidence to just rock their thing, no matter what that ‘thing’ is. The stories we’re telling in this campaign show people that bring that attitude to life.”
The execution will run across both TV and cinema, and is supported by print, online, digital and social media.

Courtesy of Transmission Films, we have 20 double passes to Brendan Fletcher’s Mad Bastards.
Developed with local Aboriginal communities and fuelled by a local cast, Mad Bastards draws from the rich tradition of storytelling inherent in Indigenous life. It follows the story of Tj, a hard-edged Indigenous man who decides to escape the chaos of the city. He travels to the tiny frontier town of Five Rivers in search of his estranged son, Bullet, who is on the fast track to becoming a mad bastard like his father. Upon his arrival, Tj is confronted by the equally tough local cop, known as Grandpa Tex, who wants to change things for the men in his community. And so begins a story about hard men battling to do the right thing by their families.
The film features the music of legendary Broome musicians the Pigram Brothers in collaboration with multi-aria Award winner Alex Lloyd.

Every year, fewer and fewer Australian films and television shows are releasing soundtrack albums. Once considered a valuable promotional tool, changes in both the screen and music industries are threatening their existence. Aravind Balasubramaniam reports.
It is a sign of the times when the #1 Australian film of the year, aimed at a young demographic, chooses not to release a soundtrack album. Ten years ago, it would have been seen as an excellent opportunity to promote both the film and a record company’s selection of up and coming bands, but in 2010 Omnilab Media’s Tomorrow, When the War Began was only released a single on iTunes.
“When you walk into a record store that used to have a soundtrack section, it has become highly evident that the section has shrunk remarkably over the last few years” said Underbelly score composer Burkhard Dallwitz.

Few films are shot by two cinematographers across two separate shoots. But then few things about indigenous film Mad Bastards are orthodox. The film . which is imbued with the music of the Pigram brothers and Alex Lloyd . follows the journey of .mad bastard. Tj, his estranged and volatile 13 year-old son Bullet, and local cop, Grandpa Tex. The filmmakers' journey, led by writer-director Brendan Fletcher, was innovative and exploratory, characterised by improvisation from a cast of largely non-actors who also provided much of the inspiration for the original story. Allan Collins Acs filmed the first six-week shooting phase while Steve Arnold Acs shot the second three-and-a-half week phase. The cinematographers used Kodak Vision 2 5205 250D with an Aaton...

Machine Gun Preacher
Opens: 2011
Cast: Gerard Butler, Michelle Monaghan, Michael Shannon, Madeline Carroll, Kathy Baker
Director: Marc Forster
Summary: After finding God, drug-dealing biker Sam Childers renounces his outlaw ways and embarks on a spiritual path, becoming a crusader for hundreds of desperate and helpless children who were being forced to become soldiers in war-torn southern Sudan.
Analysis: Despite taking the freshly rejuvenated James Bond franchise and nearly destroying it with the very disappointing "Quantum of Solace", German-Swiss filmmaker Marc Forster still has a decent amount of good will left thanks to strong earlier efforts like "Monster's Ball," "Finding Neverland," "Stranger Than Fiction" and "The Kite Runner".
Now, in his first film since that Bond outing, Forster returns to serious drama with this true story tale of a biker who became a humanitarian crusader for children in the Sudan. The story itself is fascinating, the born again Sam Childers and...

Dario Franchitti -- full name George Dario Marino Franchitti, a Scottish-born racer of Italian descent -- took home the flag from the 2010 Indianapolis 500 Sunday, May 30. He won at the Indy 500 back in 2007 as well. Dario's victory lets car owner Chip Ganassi become the first owner to win at Indy and the Daytona 500 in the same year.
Franchitti's win kept racer Helio Castroneves from becoming the fourth driver in history to win a record four times at Indy. Castroneves was in the top 3 until he stalled after a pit stop during the 145th lap (there are 200 laps in total). Helio finished ninth.
Franchitti's previous Indy 500 win came in 2007, when he became the first winner in race history to win with a car powered by bioethanol. Over his seven years racing at the Brickyards, Dario has finished sixth, seventh twice, 14th and 19th.
The final standings for the top 10 are as follows:...

Alex Lloyd has gone through to the semi-final of Celebrity MasterChef Australia. Australian singer/songwriter Alex Lloyd is facing legal action over his hit Amazing - after a man has claimed he co-wrote the track.
Mark O'Keefe alleges he penned the song with the singer in a Sydney pub in 1989, when the star, then aged 14, agreed to register the track with the Australasian Performing Rights Association (Apra) in both their names.
Amazing went on to become the most played song on Australian radio in 2002, was named song of the year by Apra, and has made thousands of dollars in royalties through sales and advertising campaigns.
O'Keefe claims Lloyd kept the coasters on which Mr O'Keefe wrote the "lyrics and melody of the chorus", the opening line of the first verse and the opening line of the middle eight. Lloyd however insists he has never met O'Keefe.
The case, which was filed last month, is set to continue later this year.
