New York, NY (November 30, 2011) – IFC Films announced today that the company is acquiring U.S. rights to The Samaritan, starring Academy Award® nominated Samuel L. Jackson, produced by Andras Hamori and directed by David Weaver from a screenplay by Weaver and Elan Mastai. The Samaritan also stars Luke Kirby (Take This Waltz), Ruth Negga (Love/Hate) and Oscar nominated Tom Wilkinson (Mission Impossible – Ghost Protocol). Tom Wilkinson has joined the cast of the independent thriller "The Samaritan," opposite Samuel L. Jackson. According to Variety, David Weaver is directing from a script he co-wrote with Elan Mastai. The film focuses on a former criminal (Jackson) who tries to go straight after serving a 20-year prison sentence. Andras Hamori is producing with Suzanne Cheriton and Tony Wosk.The film will shoot in Toronto and Rio de Janiero with a release date set for early 2012.Wilkinson recently played Joe Kennedy Sr. on the miniseries "The Kennedys." He will appear in Warner's upcoming "Green Lantern" this summer.
