There's no reason to talk of Xavier Dolan as a young filmmaker any longer. Yes, he's only 25, but he's now five films into an already impressive career and Laurence Anyways is a film any director of forty years or more would be proud to call their crowning achievement. Now comes Mommy, a film that could easily be argued as his best, and there's absolutely no telling how high his star will rise, though I fully expect his to be a career that's wildly celebrated by all film aficionados 25 years from now. Telling the story of widowed mother Diane "Die" Despres (Anne Dorval) and her 15-year-old violent son, Steve (Antoine Olivier Pilon), Mommy delves into the bond of a mother and her child, the love that exists within that bond and how there's virtually nothing in this world that can break it. Diane, however, is struggling. Steve is more than a handful,...

25-year-old Xavier Dolan surprised everyone at Cannes yesterday with his latest drama, "Mommy," a beautiful film that explores a mother-son relationship. Now, we have the first clip for the Canadian director's fifth feature film. Read More: Cannes Review: Is Xavier Dolan's 'Mommy' His Best Film?"Mommy" explores the relationship between a widowed, single mother, played by Dolan regular Anne Dorval, and her troubled teenage son. When a kind-hearted neighbor enters the picture, Dorval's character and her son (Antoine-Olivier Pilon) finally have a chance at stability. Cannes - Let's hear it for Xavier Dolan: not many auteurs have built up such a body of work by the age of 25 that the first and least arguable adjective that can be applied to his latest is "characteristic." The Québécois multi-hyphenate does not appear on screen in "Mommy," a restless interior epic of unconditional love between mother and son, but his presence in it could hardly be stronger or more idiosyncratic. Dolan's passions, neuroses and eccentricities fill every frame of "Mommy" -- even the frames themselves have his name written all over them, given the director's unorthodox decision to shoot 90% of the film in a distinctive, disorienting 1:1 ratio. "I'm still big, it's the pictures that got small," protested Norma Desmond in "Sunset Boulevard"; think of Dolan's aesthetic here as a uniquely literal interpretation of that boast. Dolan has been labelled a cinematic narcissist in the past --...

Are you ready to see a young Jimmy Fallon do a slew of celebrity impressions in eight minutes?
The "Late Night" host's original "Saturday Night Live" audition tape has been uploaded to YouTube, containing such gems as his Jerry Seinfeld, Adam Sandler, Bill Cosby and Tommy Lee Jones impressions (and yes, that last one is "Fugitive" themed, in case you were wondering).
You'll also get a taste of Fallon's arsenal of musical impressions, of which he's arguably more famous for now, including U2, Alanis Morrisette, The Wallflowers, Counting Crows and more.
Noticeably missing is Fallon's spot-on Neil Young impression that we've come to know and love on "Late Night." Tell us your favorite one he does in the comments.

In what might mark one of the longest-ever droughts between #1 albums, Lionel Richie will have something to dance on the ceiling about next week, when his all-star country comeback album, Tuskegee, grabs the #1 spot on the Billboard 200. After debuting at #2 and falling to #4 last week, Richie managed to hit #1 on sales of 129,000, according to figures provided by Nielsen SoundScan.
Thanks to a sales increase of 35 percent boosted by his prime-time CBS special, "Lionel Richie and Friends," the former Commodores singer and solo star will be back on top for the first time since 1986's Dancing on the Ceiling.
Richie's numbers were more than enough to stop Adele from reclaiming the pole position, though she did move another 92,000 copies of 21, to put her past the 8.7 million mark. It was a major comedown for Nicki Minaj,...

Considering it's where most of us (bar the weird home-schooled kids) spend our crucial formative years, where we have our first fights, our first loves, our first tentative steps into adulthood, it's no surprise that high school has long been a popular setting for movies. A range of genres (though generally leaning towards comedy) have taken place in those hallways, particularly from the 1980s onwards, when John Hughes, among others, made an entire career out of the lives and loves of 15-18 year olds.
The latest film to head back to class is "21 Jump Street" (review here) the big-screen reboot of the '80s TV show, which stars Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum as youthful-looking cops who are sent back to high school in order to bust a drug-running ring. While you might assume this to be another lazy remake, you'd be very wrong, as Tatum, Hill, co-writer Michael Bacall,...

Sad news out of Hollywood today, as actress Brittany Murphy — the star of modern classics like "Clueless" and "8 Mile" — passed away at the age of 32. The details remain incomplete, but there is a report that she was admitted to Los Angeles' Cedars Sinai Hospital in full cardiac arrest. Celebrity friends — including co-stars Ashton Kutcher ("Just Married") and Alicia Silverstone ("Clueless") — are already weighing in with reactions to the tragic news.
Murphy got her first big break in 1995's "Clueless," the Amy Heckerling-directed California adaptation of Jane Austen's "Emma." The film was a huge hit, as was the soundtrack that featured Radiohead, the Mighty Mighty Bosstones, Supergrass, Counting Crows and Smoking Popes. In one of the movie's definitive scenes, she raps along to Coolio's "Rollin' With My Homies" and does a little arm dance that ended up becoming associated with both the song and with Murphy.
That wasn't Murphy's only run-in with hip-hop.

For those of you who caught the Boise State game or "Big Brother" last night, I've got some good news for you. You can click right on ahead and find out what Seth Meyers and Shannon Elizabeth were thinking while you picked your jaw up off the floor in front of the TV. I'm in the prior camp.
Moving on, I've got a pile of photos on the Twitter-Wood playlist today. Selecting among all of Emmy Rossum's shots onstage with Counting Crows in Central Park proved too difficult, so I just grabbed one and suggest you head over to her account for the rest. Grabbing the Twitter Pic of the Day honors, however, was Brett Ratner, who posted a shot of himself with Michael Jackson and P. Diddy. There seems to be something different going on with each of them in the scene. Keep on going, and you'll see...
