If excitement about tonight's UK premiere of Fox’s Batman prequel series Gotham has got you caterwauling the lyrics to the Smallville theme tune on rooftops in anticipation, early whispers from fellow Bat-fans over in the Us who’ve had a look at the first episodes are saying there is much for us to look forward to as we wait for it to descend on Channel 5 here.

EastEnders star Nicola Stapleton has confirmed that she would not rule out another return for her soap character Mandy Salter. The actress filmed her exit scenes six weeks ago and viewers saw Mandy bow out in yesterday evening's (May 31) episode. Speaking on Loose Women today (June 1), the 37-year-old revealed that she was thrilled with Mandy's most recent story arc. Stapleton commented: "I don't want to play someone who's normal and boring - I want somebody who's feisty and spicy. I love Mandy. She's got layers, I think - she's deep and she's troubled. "It's been really nice, actually, with the last few storylines that I had with Vicky Alcock who played my mum. Hollyoaks has landed a product placement contract with cosmetics and beauty company L'Oréal, it has been announced. Channel 4 and Hollyoaks' production company Lime Pictures have secured a six-month deal with the firm, Broadcast reports. L'Oréal products will now appear in a number of settings on the show, including at the village's gym. They may also feature on adverts displayed on the local bus stop. The deal was brokered by media agency ZenithOptimedia, Channel 4's sponsorship, placement and funded content business manager Vicky Kell, Channel 4's partnership lead Rob Ramsay and Lime Pictures' managing director Sean Marley. After three separate announcements (here, here and here), the Toronto International Film Festival has announced the final line-up for their Galas and Special Presentations, as well as a few other categories. Most notable is Andrea Arnold‘s Fish Tank follow-up Wuthering Heights, the next film from Timecrimes director Nacho Vigalondo, as well as Dogtooth director Yorgos Lanthimos’ Alps.
We also get Whit Stillman‘s Damsels in Distress starring Greta Gerwig and Geoffrey Fletcher’s Violet & Daisy starring Saoirse Ronan and James Gandolfini. In what should be a little fun we have Gary McKendry‘s Killer Elite starring Robert De Niro, Clive Owen and Jason Statham. Miranda, This Is England and EastEnders have emerged as some of the big winners at this year's Royal Television Society Programme Awards. At the ceremony, which was held in London last night, BBC sitcom Miranda was given the 'Scripted Comedy' prize, while its star Miranda Hart walked away with the 'Comedy Performance' trophy. EastEnders beat out Coronation Street and Casualty to land the 'Soap & Continuing Drama' award, and The X Factor was triumphant in the 'Entertainment' category. This past Halloween weekend FilmShaft was entrenched at the Grimm Up North Horror and Sci-Fi Festival in Manchester for three days of horror entertainment. It was a case of the good, the bad and the ugly. Isn’t it always?
The great thing about the programme was the variety. There was interpretations of horror from around the world. Although the Dancehouse has a certain faded and decayed opulence in an art deco kind of way, the sound wasn’t amazing and the screen wasn’t the best. But one images this is what it was like to watch a film in the days before the multiplex and Thx sound.
Below is a selection of what movies stood out and for various reasons.
