TiVo Inc. shared details of its technology with EchoStar Commmunications' Dish Network, which later used it in its own TiVo-like boxes, former TiVo CEO Michael Ramsey said Wednesday during testimony in the first day of a patent-infringement lawsuit against EchoStar. Ramsey said digital video recorder pioneer TiVo spent years pursuing a deal, in which Dish Network would pay it for using its set-top boxes, but the company began selling its own boxes instead. Ramsey was the first witness in a trial that is expected to last about two weeks. EchoStar's attorney, Harold McElhinny, said the satellite TV provider came up with its own technology that differs from TiVo in several ways.
