Park City Song Summit will return for its third annual event on August 15th-17th. Taking place in Park City, Utah’s across the Canyons Village Amphitheater, Pendry, and Main Street, the music and wellness festival has tapped headliners My Morning Jacket, Nathaniel Rateliff & The Night Sweats, and Mavis Staples.

As Pcss founder Ben Anderson told Consequence ahead of last year’s event, the “bread and butter” of the event isn’t the performances, but the panel discussions dubbed Labs. With a focus on mental health in the music industry, these talks aim to give artists a platform to speak on the “healing platform of music — wellness plus music equals better lives,” as Anderson put it.

In a much-anticipated duet more than 20 years in the making, Willie Nelson was finally joined onstage by Kermit the Frog to perform “Rainbow Connection” together Thursday at the Luck Reunion.
The Oscar-nominated song was a hit for Kermit (and Jim Henson) after it featured in 1979’s The Muppet Movie, and over the next decades was covered by the likes of the Carpenters, the Chicks, Kenny Loggins, and Nelson, whose tender rendition became a classic in its own right after it featured on his 2001 album also titled Rainbow Connection.

Linda Thompson dated Elvis Presley in the early 1970s. She was one of the great loves of his life, and Thompson documented their loving relationship with plenty of photographs, including some intimate photos taken just outside the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll’s bedroom where she was his “queen.”

Somewhere out there, there is an unfinished song by Post Malone based on his idol Bob Dylan’s lyrics, according to a new report from Rolling Stone.
In a lengthy interview with the magazine, producer Michael Cash revealed the track was intended for a collection of Dylan songs inspired by the 2014 T Bone Burnett-produced album, Lost on the River: The New Basement Tapes, which saw the likes of Marcus Mumford, Jim James, and Elvis Costello recording songs based on newly uncovered Dylan lyrics. Cash’s vision was to create his own album featuring songs recorded by rappers Kendrick Lamar and J. Cole, as well as the hip-hop-influenced Malone, a well-known Dylan fan.
According to Cash, Dylan’s representative, Jeff Rosen, responded to his pitch about collaborating with Malone by teasing that Dylan had “something in mind that he wants to craft specifically for this,” though a source close to...

God only knows it was a matter of time until the Recording Academy picked the Beach Boys as the recipient of one of its annual all-star tributes, and the group’s legacy isn’t done any shame with “A Grammy Salute to the Beach Boys,” airing Sunday night at 8 Et/Pt on CBS (and for on-demand streaming on Paramount+). St. Vincent delivered a faithful rendition of David Bowie’s “Young Americans” as part of Thursday’s Love Rocks NYC benefit, an all-star concert staged at New York’s Beacon Theater to benefit God’s Love We Deliver.
Backed by a massive band that included backup singers and a horn section, Annie Clark echoed blue-eyed soul-era Bowie, working the crowd and singing with a very Thin White Duke inflection.
St. Vincent’s appearance came one night after she covered Portishead’s “Glory Box” alongside the Roots on The Tonight Show.

Hardly 24 hours after she teamed up with The Roots for a killer cover of Portishead’s “Glory Box” on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, St. Vincent took on David Bowie’s “Young Americans” Thursday night during the star-studded Love Rocks NYC benefit concert at New York City’s Beacon Theatre.
The night was a whole a who’s-who of performers: James Taylor, Mavis Staples, Sheryl Crow, Pat Benatar, Neil Giraldo, Warren Haynes, the John Mayer Trio, Rufus Wainwright, Gary Clark Jr., Jim James, Ledisi, Allison Russell, The War and Treaty, and former Yankee Bernie Williams all took the stage throughout the evening.
Aside from St. Vincent, a few standout performances include Benatar doing “Love Is a Battlefield,” Taylor singing “How Sweet It Is,” Staples dusting off Staple Singers’ “Respect Yourself,” and Russell honoring the late Christine McVie with a cover of Fleetwood Mac’s “Don’t Stop.” St. Vincent...

George Harrison would have turned 80 years old today. Though he died over two decades ago, his work continues to inspire people all across the globe.
Just this week, Yusuf, a.k.a. Kendrick Lamar, Foo Fighters and Odesza are set to headline this year’s Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival.

The festival was also axed in 2020 like most major music events because of the coronavirus pandemic.

Jim James has teamed with composer Teddy Abrams & the Louisville Orchestra for The Order of Nature, an album of new songs by the My Morning Jacket frontman as well as reimagined versions of tracks from his solo catalog. James also shared first single “Set It to Song” from The Order of Nature, which examines the singer’s “fascination” with the absence of hate in nature.

My Morning Jacket unveiled one of the previously unreleased tracks, “John Dyes Her Hair Red,” from the upcoming 20th anniversary reissue of their 1999 debut album, The Tennessee Fire, out August 2nd via Darla Records.
“John Dyes Her Hair Red” finds Mmj exploring a sonic realm far from their characteristically expansive take on southern rock. It’s a stripped-down song that features just the clang and crunch of a blowout guitar, over which frontman Jim James delivers a simple and sweet vocal performance that still crackles at the edges.

The Claypool Lennon Delirium conjure a demented fish-human showdown in their psychedelic “Little Fishes” video.
Animator Micah Buzan uses the song’s intro lyrics as a springboard, particularly Les Claypool’s visions of men “gobbling” up mercury-heavy fish and the pollutant settling “in their soft and supple brains.” Using those elements — men, fish and brains (along with random cameos from an Easter Bunny) — the visual expands into its own surreal narrative that culminates in a battle via fish-hook.

Brandi Carlile is well used to both covering and being covered. Last year, she was the recipient of a tribute album that had Adele, Dolly Parton and Pearl Jam, among others, doing her songs. She can give as well as she gets, and on her current tour, she’s dropped in everything from “Madman Across the Water” to “Stand By Your Man.”
Friday night at the Greek Theatre in Los Angeles, she did bravura vocal turns on two of the songs that have turned into tour staples for her in recent weeks, Joni Mitchell’s “A Case of You” and Led Zeppelin’s “Babe, I’m Gonna Leave You.” But, given the week’s sad news events, she was saving the most literally respectful for last.
For the encore, Carlile invited My Morning Jacket main man Jim James up to duet on two Aretha Franklin standards, “Do Right Woman, Do Right Man” followed by “Respect.

My Morning Jacket‘s Jim James played his psych-rocker “No Secrets” as an online exclusive for Tuesday’s Jimmy Kimmel Live.
The singer-songwriter yelped in a ragged falsetto, his voice cracking over washes of electric guitar. The band – which included a rhythm guitarist, bassist, drummer and two backing vocalists who shimmied back and forth on the fog-shrouded stage – played it loose with the tempo during James’ guitar solo, seemingly slowing down and speeding up.
James also performed his hard-hitting social media satire “Throwback” during the show. “Scroll back in time...

Showtime has canceled Cameron Crowe's first television series Roadies, his music drama about the behind-the-scenes crews that bring tours to life, after one season.
Writer and director Crowe announced the cancellation in a post on his The Uncool site. "Though we could tell a thousand more stories, this run ends with a complete ten-hour tale of music and love," Crowe wrote. "Like a song that slips under your skin, or a lyric that keeps speaking to you, we hope the spell of Roadies lingers. It was life-changing experience for all of us.

In 2007, after returning to the music scene with the full E Street Band, Bruce Springsteen released the critically- and commercially-adored album, “Magic.” A fierce and cutting portrait of American disillusionment from track to track, the music marked a high point for the legendary rocker’s resurgent post-9/11 work, but it also signified the politically-progressive singer’s most pessimistic take on a society he’s been writing about — and representing — since the late ’60s.
Then, just two years later, the insightful artist released an album that could very well be his most hopeful ever, certainly since his return to prominence. While infectiously enthusiastic and admirably experimental, “Land of Hope and Dreams” was a significant step down in caliber compared to “Magic.” But it was what reflected our mass perspective in 2009, and more than that, it was what we needed to hear.

A few quick thoughts on tonight's Roadies coming up just as soon as I really like jazz... In my initial review of this show, I alluded to the dire nature of last week's episode, "The Bryce Newman Letter." Noel Murray and Mo Ryan did an excellent job of pointing out the many things that went awry with that one, and if a show with a creator I respected even slightly less than Cameron Crowe put out an hour like that, I'd be a cloud of dust with motion lines getting the hell away from it. Instead, I decided to give Roadies one more shot to see if "Bryce Newman" was an aberration, and was rewarded with easily the best episode of this young series in "The City Whose Name Must Not Be Spoken." Neither Crowe nor Winnie Holzman do cruel all that well, which is one of the many reasons "Bryce Newman" went so sour.

My Morning Jacket descended upon The Late Show with Stephen Colbert Monday for a performance of "Tropics," an expansive track off their latest LP, The Waterfall.
Jim James and Co. tore through the cut, which shifts between the band's always-potent blend of spaced-out meanderings and loud, delirious displays of heaviness. It all built to a bombastic final breakdown where James traded blistering, tightrope riffs with the band's thunderous downbeats and the psychotic strikes of a small string section.
