The Gladiators reboot, which has proved a huge hit for the BBC, has been handed a second season.
Ahead of this weekend’s final, the BBC said its first episode is now its biggest entertainment launch for nearly a decade and has almost reached 10M viewers after 28 days.
The first series hosted by Bradley and Barney Walsh has seen 16 new superhuman Gladiators: Sabre, Legend, Nitro, Diamond, Phantom, Athena, Bionic, Fire, Giant, Dynamite, Viper, Electro, Apollo, Comet, Steel and Fury quickly become household names as viewers cheer on favorites as they compete against contenders in iconic events such as duel and powerball, culminating in the iconic eliminator.
Gladiators was a hit for ITV in the 1990s but hadn’t been on British screens for nearly 25 years apart from a brief return in 2008. The commission came alongside a string of reboots that have garnered varying degrees of success including Big Brother,...

Channel 4 has commissioned a UK version of Us cooking show The Taste.
Nigella Lawson - who serves as both an executive producer and a judge on the ABC series - will join the UK show alongside fellow stars Anthony Bourdain and Ludo Lefebvre.
The ten-part series will see contestants face rounds of cookery challenges, with the panel blind tasting just a spoonful of the food before eliminating competitors.
The competition will be narrowed down to 12 contestants with a judge acting as a mentor to each team of four. The blind taste twist means that a mentor could end up sending home a member of their own team if their food is not up to scratch.
As well as commissioning the UK series, Channel 4 has also acquired the rights to air the Us version of the programme.

Nick Grimshaw and Rizzle Kicks have been lined up to present two new music shows on Channel 4.
Pop duo Jordan Stephens and Harley Alexander-Sule have shot a pilot for a programme called Smells Like Friday Night, while Grimshaw will host an hour-long music quiz with the working title That Music Show.
Channel 4 reports that Grimshaw's show will be "set in an iconic music venue with a vibrant award-style feel" and will include live performances in between rounds.

Programmes such as The Only Way Is Essex are watched by 'sophisticated' audiences, claim executives
Viewers have forgiven broadcasters for the string of deception scandals such as Queengate that so damaged their reputation just a few years ago, and happily accept a degree of fakery in shows such as The Only Way is Essex, a panel of senior documentary-makers claimed on Friday.
Speaking at Sheffield Doc/Fest, the creative director of BBC Entertainment North, Dominic Bird, said audiences are now so sophisticated and media literate that they do not feel swindled watching stage-managed segments in factual entertainment such as Sky 1's Pineapple Dance Studios or ITV2's The Only Way Is Essex.
"Of course if you are making a serious documentary then you expect it to be straight down the line but in something like Pineapple Dance Studios you need to have a bit of fun and have those unexpected...
