Last night on Long Island a relatively inoffensive, centrist establishment Democrat triumphed over the charismatic political newcomer in a swingy suburban district in a race that was dominated by a debate over immigration. Tom Suozzi’s victory in New York’s 3rd Congressional District over Republican Mazi Melesa Pilip is a balm for voters anxious about Joe Biden’s anemic approval ratings and his performance in head-to-heads polls against former President Donald Trump in a general election race poised to be a referendum on border policy.

One NFL insider voice that ESPN viewers will not be listening to as the new season kicks off is Chris Mortensen as the football analyst has announced his retirement from the network.
Mortensen had quietly quit the sports network earlier this year and ahead of the start of the NFL season has made it public to all of his fans.
“Excited about another season but it’s time to reveal after my 33rd NFL draft in April, I made a decision to step away from ESPN and focus on my health, family and faith,” he shared on X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter.
Luckily for fans who have been following his career for 33 years, he’s still going to be giving his hot takes on the NFL.
“The gratitude and humility is overwhelming. It’s not a classic retirement. I’ll still be here talking ball. It’s just time.

Glenn Greenwald Fires Back At Rep. Peter King: Won’t ‘Deter Me, Limit Me Or Constrain Me In Any Way’
The Guardian's Glenn Greenwald saw Rep. Peter King (R-ny) call for his arrest today on Fox News, but he is refusing to be intimidated. The reporter who broke the Nsa leaks with help from Edward Snowden says King's comment are "not going to deter me or limit me or constrain me in any way from exercising my core First Amendment rights.”...

CNN reporter John King joined his colleague Jake Tapper in dismissing the claims by Rep. Peter King (R-ny) that the journalists who vetted and reported leaks by Edward Snowden relating to the National Security Agency’s surveillance practices should be prosecuted. King explained concisely why the notion that reporters should be liable for leaking state secrets when they have cooperated with the government during the vetting process did not make sense.

On Tuesday, Rep. Peter King (R-ny) told CNN host Anderson Cooper that he believed the journalists who broke the story relating to the National Security Agency’s communications monitoring programs should be prosecuted. CNN host Jake Tapper addressed this claim on the network’s morning show Starting Point where he dismissed King’s claim saying that it was simply not a feasible course for the government to pursue.

Washington — Several weeks after overseeing the raid that killed Osama bin Laden, then-cia Director Leon Panetta revealed the name of the raid commander in a speech attended by the writer of the film "Zero Dark Thirty," according to a draft report by Pentagon investigators.
Under security rules, the commander's name was not to be made public, but the draft report did not say whether Panetta knew a member of the public was in his audience at CIA headquarters. A former CIA official familiar with the event said Wednesday that Panetta did not know of the writer's presence; if the disclosure was inadvertent it would not constitute a violation of the rules by Panetta.
The former official spoke on condition of anonymity because a security issue was involved.
The unpublished draft report was first disclosed by the Project on Government Oversight and confirmed by Rep. Peter King, who asked for the investigation nearly two years ago.

It's safe to say Rep. Peter King (R-ny) is still holding his grudge against those two stood in the way of Hurricane Sandy aid. On Friday, he joined the folks of Morning Joe — and asked about the recovery, King was quick to call out Sen. Marco Rubio for fundraising in New York after voting against the Sandy aid bill. "Stay home," he told the senator.

During a visit to the West Bank on Thursday, President Barack Obama held a joint press conference with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas. Immediately following that press conference, CNN asked Rep. Peter King (R-ny) for his reaction to the speech and to Obama’s policy towards the Israel-Palestinian peace process. King asserted that Obama “should play favorites,” and favor America’s ally Israel over the Palestinians.

Rep. Peter King (R-ny) exploded at the Conservative Political Action Conference on Friday in an appearance with CNN anchor Wolf Blitzer. When asked about the conference’s decision not to invite New Jersey's Republican Gov. Chris Christie for, among other reasons, his decision to scold Congressional Republicans for stalling to approve a bill that would fund post-Hurricane Sandy relief projects, King went off on the conference for having a “suicidal death wish.”...

As lip-sync-gate rages on, Beyoncé still hasn’t responded to requests for comment or released a statement about whether her Inauguration Day vocals were live or pre-recorded. But either way, Bey can count on the support of her peers — i.e. fellow megastars who understand that sometimes, lip-synching is a necessary evil.
Jennifer Lopez didn’t exactly defend Queen B’s honor while visiting The Daily Show last night — but she did acknowledge that basically every musician has to rely on pre-recorded tracks in certain contexts. “You know, sometimes it happens,” she explained to Jon Stewart. “When you’re in...

Here’s a truth bomb that will rock you to your very core: Sometimes, at big, important events, singers don’t actually sing.
An artist may choose to mouth along to a pre-recorded track during a “live” performance for any number of reasons. Maybe the weather is bad; maybe she simply isn’t feeling well. Whatever the excuse, though, lip-synching is about as ubiquitous as the common cold — especially if the singer in question happens to be performing “The Star-Spangled Banner.” Jennifer Hudson did it at Super Bowl Xliii in 2009. Whitney Houston also did it when delivering her definitive version...

General consensus: Earpiece or no earpiece, Beyoncé crushed it at the inauguration yesterday. (Update: Maybe!)
That explains why the cover of today’s New York Post printed the headline “First Couple” alongside a photo of music’s undisputed power couple. The joke, of course, being that — all due respect to the Obamas — every inauguration attendee was really most excited to snap a picture of Bey and Jay. Well… almost every one.
As Buzzfeed points out, in the Post photo Rep. Peter King (far right) happily joined in the Diy paparazzi moment. Only problem: King later tweeted that he had no...

Rep. Peter King (R-ny) was furious yesterday, to say the least, about the House skipping the vote on the Hurricane Sandy aid bill on Tuesday night. Taking to both CNN and Fox News, King tore into his party for turning their backs on the people who need the help. Since then, the House has scheduled the vote, and King appeared to be in much better spirits on Thursday.

During a rather tense interview with CNN's Piers Morgan this evening, conservative activist Grover Norquist blasted the various prominent Republican lawmakers who have expressed a willingness to break his long-standing anti-tax pledge in the name of achieving a compromise to avoid the "fiscal cliff." In particular, Norquist took a shot at Rep. Peter King (R-ny), accusing the congressman of trying to "weasel" out of a career-long commitment to the pledge.

On Dec. 19 of this year, only 19 months after Osama bin Laden was killed by a team of Navy SEALs, Kathryn Bigelow’s new film detailing how the C.I.A. and military hunted down the terrorist will hit theaters. Drawing from intensive research, Zero Dark Thirty – which stars Jessica Chastain as a dogged C.I.A. agent — is part procedural and part true-life action thriller, and in this week’s issue of EW, Bigelow and writer Mark Boal (who collaborated previously on Best Picture Oscar winner The Hurt Locker) give their first interview together about how they made the intense,...
