Is Netflix’s Bodkin Based on a True Story? (Photo Credit – IMDb)
Starring Will Forte, Siobhán Cullen, and Robyn Cara as Gilbert Power, Dove, and Emmy, respectively, the show keeps audiences on the edge of their seats while also tickling their funny bones. Since the series revolves around a true-crime podcast, people might wonder if Bodkin is based on a true story. Let’s find out!
What is the True Story Behind Netflix’s Bodkin?
Bodkin is not based on a true story. Though the series is centered on true-crime podcasters, its events and plot are entirely fictional. The show is a satire on how some podcasters get way too dramatic while discussing a true crime and blur the lines between facts and fiction.

Tom McCarthy, the man who took the helm on the Oscar-winning Spotlight, has entered talks to direct a feature-length adaptation of the podcast S-Town.
The podcast, which comes from Serial and This American Life, focuses on an Alabama man named John who contacts host Brian Reed to have him investigate a supposed murder by the son of a wealthy family in his hometown, which he openly despises. The story then delves into John’s own backstory, filled with everything from clocks and buried treasure to a giant hedge maze behind his family home.
If a deal can be struck, McCarthy will reunite with Participant Media. The Production outfit and McCarthy worked together on Spotlight.

Another “This American Life” podcast is getting a brand-new visual-centric adaptation. Just weeks after HBO announced its plans to release a new Amy Berg-directed series about Adnan Syed, the focus of the first season of their popular “Serial” podcast, Participant Media has lined up the rights to the inaugural season of their “S-Town” podcast. Deadline reports that “Spotlight” helmer Tom McCarthy is already in negotiations to direct the film, and playwright Samuel Hunter is in talks to write the script. “This American Life” will also produce the new project.

S-Town began as a podcast from Serial and This American Life. Hosted by Brian Reed, the podcast told the story of a man named John who despises his Alabama town and decides to do something about it. He asks Brian to investigate the son of a wealthy family who’s allegedly been bragging that he got away with murder. But then someone else ends up dead, and the search for the truth leads to a nasty feud, a hunt for hidden treasure, and an unearthing of the mysteries of one man’s life.

The Sheffield Doc/Fest, one of the largest non-fiction festivals in the world, kicked off this weekend with around 200 films as it celebrates its 25th anniversary. Halo Initiation tells the story of how Sarah Palmer became a Spartan, and by the end of this second issue I am already 10 times more enamored with her than I ever was with Master Chief ( I know, I know... blasphemy). Part of that is credit to her sense of humor, which is on full display in this issue especially in panels like the ones showing her Weapon X like spartanization. Brian Reed's voice comes through loud and clear here, and that's a good thing. While her Spartan teammates are less than stellar, in both skills and personality, it doesn’t take anything away from Sarah. I do hope the squad gets a bit more developed as we go along, though.
So far we’ve only seen the Spartans in training, but by issue’s end we get a glimpse of the spiffy armor all Halo fans know and love.

The Halo franchise has mostly focused on the exploits of Master Chief and Cortana, but the most interesting entries in the franchise to me were Odst and Reach, which took the point of views of the Orbital Drop Shock Trooper's and non Chief Spartans, respectively. To me those were far more interesting, as that "nothing can really hurt me and I won't die because I'm the main character" aspect that made Chief (to me at least) unrelatable was gone.
The main character of Initiation is Sarah Palmer, and it's wonderful to see another well fleshed out female character taking center stage in the Halo universe. Brian Reed, a favorite writer of mine from his Ms. Marvel days (before she was Captain and before he was with 343) brings his usual wit to the character, and does a nice balancing act, making her confident and sure of herself while still keeping her relatable.

As I’ve mentioned here before, I’ve been a Superman fan pretty much forever. Superman was my first encounter with superheroes, beginning with watching the first Christopher Reeve Superman movie when I was very small. Through the years, Superman has remained one of my favorite superheroes. Sure, I love Deadpool (obviously!), and I’ve always been a big X-Men fan… and Batman… and Spider-Man… and I could go on and on from there – but Superman, the most unequivocal and steadfast symbol of hope and ethical humanity in the whole collection, has always been there in the background, informing my appreciation of the rest of the bunch.
Some people say that Superman is a boring character. He’s too perfect. He’s incredibly powerful and can do almost anything, way beyond what most of us can fathom, and he’s constantly doing the “right” or noble thing. How interesting can someone like that be?...

Dark Horse Comics will be bringing the world of Bungie’s Halo to a brand new comic series, Halo: Initiation. The upcoming mini-series will be written by Brian Reed and will be illustrated by Marco Castiello and will delve deeper into the origins of the Spartan-iv program first introduced in Halo 4 – focusing in particular on Sarah Palmer.
Before she was a supersoldier defending humanity as part of the Spartan-iv program, Sarah Palmer was an Odst — Orbital Drop Shock Trooper — carrying out the most dangerous missions behind enemy lines! See how she became the first Spartan-iv commander in this must-read series for fans of Halo 4 and the Halo franchise!
“A rich science fiction universe driven by compelling characters, Halo has all the makings for show-stopping comics,” said Dave Marshall, Dark Horse Editor. “In Initiation, Brian and Marco are delivering an action-packed thrill-ride with a beating heart of authentic human drama.”

A new series from writer Brian Reed will look at the story of the first Spartan-iv commander.
"Initiation," which launches in August, sees former Odst Sarah Palmer take on a series of deadly missions in what will surely be a bridge between the first and current "Halo" trilogies. Spartan-iv's, in case you didn't know, differ from the Master Chief's model in that they weren't raised and augmented from early childhood to be supersoldiers, tuned up and improved in a less creepy process nonetheless built on Dr. Halsey's program.
The move to Dark Horse sees 343 Industries jumping away from longtime partner/publisher Marvel Comics who previously released minis and OGNs based on the franchise under creators like Brian Michael Bendis and Fred Van Lente. Reed has worked regularly with Marvel in the past, his longest stint being the 50 issues he wrote for "Ms. Marvel."

The new "Mission: Impossible—The Ghost Protocol" trailer has the world talking about Tom Cruise once again. Better yet, it's got Simon Pegg running around on the big screen once more, which, depending on whether you're reading Edgar Wright's tweets or Dylan Teague's tweets, could be a good thing or a bad thing.

History and new technology collided in the Twittersphere this morning. Google's Chrome Os-powered Chromebooks got people talking—and scratching their heads in some cases. Mentioning any event other than the death of Osama Bin Laden today would grossly mischaracterize the state of the Twittersphere last night and this morning. Egypt isn't the only place in the world with where leadership has fallen into question this week. With The White Stripes officially broken up, Brian Michael Bendis and Matt Fraction can't seem to agree on who's filling the void left behind in the world of rock.
Stan Lee, meanwhile, is far from retiring in the world of professional cameo specialists. He expounded on the subject and what his line of work entails last night. The Twitter Report joins numerous other voices online today in wishing the happiest of birthdays to comics legend and Marvel movie cameo artist Stan Lee. Excitement about Lee's big day was tempered, however, by some disappointment from a few posters who learned that Natalie Portman is now pregnant and engaged to be married.

I'm going to go out on a limb and guess that Alan Moore could not have cared less about the "Green Lantern" and "Cowboys and Aliens" trailers that premiered in time for his birthday this week, but a handful of creators in our feed cared enough about him to celebrate his birthday with posts. Gene Ha summed up the day's significance nicely.

Now that "Call of Duty: Black Ops" is legally for sale, our Twitter feed had three perspective to present. There's Brian Reed, who knows that his copy has shipped; Andy Diggle, who has his game in hand; and a poor young actress from "Kick-Ass" who is old enough to use Mark Millar's language on-screen but can't yet buy a copy of the week's most popular first-person shooter.
