The Costume Designers Guild has announced that Bette Midler will receive the distinguished collaborator award at its upcoming Costume Designers Guild Awards (Cdga) show on Feb. 27.
The multi-talented actress and singer, a two-time Oscar nominee for The Rose and For The Boys who most recently starred in Hocus Pocus 2, says of the honor in a statement, “In my very long career, I have been blessed to work with some of the greatest costume designers ever in the worlds of stage and film. It’s been a wild ride, and I am delighted that they have chosen me as their honoree this year; I truly owe them everything. I look forward to thanking each and every one of them; geniuses all.” The distinguished collaborator award is designated for “individuals who demonstate unwavering support of costume designer and creative partnerships with costume designers.”
Midler joins a trio of previously announced honorees for the 25th CDGAs.

“Dune”, “Coming 2 America” and “Cruella” were the film winners at the 2022 Costume Designers Guild Awards on Wednesday night.
Back in person after the pandemic, the awards recognized excellence in film, TV and short-form costume design and were hosted by Andrew Rannells and Casey Wilson.
Costume Designers Guild president Salvador Perez discussed the role the awards and the guild played in the pandemic, saying, “As a community, we have survived a life-changing pandemic industry and been on the brink of work stoppage.”
Perez also called for “pay equity now.” This has been an ongoing plea from Perez and the costume designers who fight for pay equity. He said, costume designers, are “historically underpaid for too long. It’s about costume designers in the costume department being valued as a major asset to the industry and compensated accordingly.”

Nominees for the 22nd annual Costume Designer Guild Awards included frontrunning period pieces “Dolemite Is My Name,” “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood,” and “Rocketman.” They were joined by “Downton Abbey” and “Jojo Rabbit.” This definitely bodes well for Ruth Carter (“Dolemite”) in her bid for a second consecutive Oscar following “Black Panther.”
However, surprise no shows were “Joker,” “The Irishman,” “Little Women,” and “Judy.” And, Deborah Cook, who became the first costume designer from animation to get nominated by the Cdga for her breakthrough work on “Kubo and the Two Strings,” was denied this time around for her great Victorian-era work on Laika’s stop-motion Oscar contender, “Missing Link.”
Contemporary nominees, meanwhile, included “A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood,” “Hustlers,” “Knives Out,” “The Laundromat,” and “Queen & Slim.” But “Bombshell” didn’t make the cut.

“Saturday Night Live” won Best Variety Sketch Series at Monday’s Primetime Emmy Awards, marking the first time the long-running show has defended a series award and extending its record haul to 72, the most of any program.
Though “SNL” has been on the air for 43 years, it has only won three series awards. It took home Best Variety Series in 1976 for its first season and again in 1993 for its 18th season. After the category was split into Best Variety Sketch Series and Best Variety Talk Series in 2015, “SNL” won the former last year for its buzzy, politically charged 42nd installment. It had leading 2/13 odds to repeat this year.

“SNL”‘s 43rd season earned 21 nominations this year, including nine acting bids. It received seven statuettes at last weekend’s Creative Arts Awards, including Best Comedy Guest Actress for Tiffany Haddish.
“Portlandia” was in second with 16/1 odds.

Over the weekend, NBC’s legendary variety program “Saturday Night Live” won seven more trophies at the Creative Arts Emmys on Sunday night. It prevailed for comedy guest actress (Tiffany Haddish), variety directing (Don Roy King), music and lyrics, production design, lighting design, make-up and technical direction.
The show now has a mind-blowing 71 Emmy wins in its 43-year run, way ahead in the all-time record books for any series. The next closest series for the all-time marks held by “Game of Thrones” with 45 and “Frasier” with 37. “SNL” has got three more shots at the primetime ceremony on Monday, September 17, so how many more victories will it achieve to bump up its total haul even more? Those categories are Variety Sketch Series (where it is a virtual lock to win), Comedy Supporting Actress and Comedy Supporting Actor (with Alec Baldwin and Kenan Thompson).

The Saturday Night Live 40th anniversary special is this weekend and we are literally falling out of our chairs with excitement and anticipation.
The show has created some of the most memorable characters since it first began in 1975. While the writers do an incredible job creating amazing sketches that leave us doubled over in laughter, it's the costumes that help the character really come alive.
Watch: Will Ferrell Better Be Bringing More Cowbell to the ‘SNL’ 40th Anniversary Celebration
So who is the man behind the costumes? His name is Tom Broecker and he’s been designing for the show for 21 years. His work earned him a nomination for a Costume Designers Guild Award in the Outstanding Contemporary Television Series category alongside fellow SNL designer Eric Justian.
With the anniversary special right around the corner, Broecker is certainly going to be a busy man. Nearly everyone possible cast member is returning and we’re hoping to see...

“The Grand Budapest Hotel,” “Into the Woods” and “Inherent Vice” are among the nominees for the 16th Annual Costume Designers Guild Awards, the CDG announced on Wednesday.
So is “Selma,” which ended a 0-for-5 drought and picked up its first guild nomination of the year.

The Costume Designers Guild joined the guild chorus Wednesday morning with a list of nominees across three categories: contemporary, period and fantasy designs. On the list, and finally joining the guild party, is "Selma" from legendary outfitter Ruth E. Carter. It's the first guild mention for the film so far and obviously a warranted one. Carter was joined on the period side by "The Grand Budapest Hotel," "The Imitation Game," "Inherent Vice" (yay!) and "The Theory of Everything." Meanwhile, I'm trying to figure out what makes "Interstellar" a contemporary film rather than a fantasy film (which is how the art directors classified it). Either way, I'm sure the team is happy to be included. I can't believe, though, that "Mr. Turner" has been excluded from both this list and the art directors'. Though it feels like this kind of thing has happened before, only to be righted by the Academy.

The Art Directors Guild and the Costume Designers Guild have become the latest groups to announce their nominees for 2013. They may not be considered as big or as important as the Producers Guild, the Directors Guild, or the Writers Guild, but they are still a pretty good prognosticator for who will eventually take home the Oscar in their respective categories.
The Art Directors split their categories up into Period, Fantasy, and Contemporary Films (along with various TV categories), but the main one of importance here is the Period, where we find the more fanciful, eye-catching designs. Here, we find what was mostly expected: American Hustle, The Great Gatsby, Inside Llewyn Davis, Saving Mr. Banks, and 12 Years a Slave. If I had to venture a guess, I’d say that The Great Gatsby has this one in the bag. There were those who didn’t enjoy the film (I actually found...

First up the BAFTA (British Academy of Film & Television Arts) Film Awards:
The Artist – Mark Bridges
Hugo – Sandy Powell
Jane Eyre – Michael O’Connor
My Week with Marilyn – Jill Taylor
Tinker, Tailor, Solider, Spy – Jacqueline Durran
Perhaps the most surprising nomination, even though it shouldn’t be, is Jacqueline Durran for Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy. Overruling the costumers’ chapter vote for Anonymous (Lisy Christl), general voters chose Tinker, Tailor instead – and with good reason. Critic Guy Lodge goes into detail about the film’s costumes in this article, so we’ll not tread on his toes. One...
