Both films seem, at first glance, to be routine low-budget programmers, but it quickly becomes apparent that the filmmakers are up to something more ambitious and rewarding than simply jerking the audience around with cheap shock effects. Don’t Tell a Soul is gripping new thriller Alex McAulay, about two brothers, and a cop who has fallen down a well. We had the pleasure of speaking to the aforementioned siblings, British actor Fionn Whitehead and the younger American star Jack Dylan Grazer.
The duo discuss the compelling screenplay, and the experience playing brothers in this production. They talk about co-star Rainn Wilson and what he was like to work with, and whether the poor man was actually down a well, or if that’s just the magic of cinema. We also look over other projects, discussing with Whitehead just how much he owes to Chris Nolan for giving him the opportunity to shine as the leading role in Dunkirk, while Grazer speaks about his time on We Are Who We Are with Luca Guadagnino, as well as the forthcoming sequel to Shazam, which we can’t wait to see.

"Desperate men do desperate things." Saban Films has unveiled an official trailer for an indie thriller titled Don't Tell a Soul, the second film made by writer Alex McAulay. This was originally supposed to premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival, but later officially premiered in France at the Deauville Film Festival this fall. Two thieving teenage brothers, stealing money from an empty house to help their sick mom, match wits with a troubled security guard stuck at the bottom of a forgotten well. Should they leave him there or help him out? Each brother makes his own choice. The film stars Jack Dylan Grazer, Fionn Whitehead, Rainn Wilson, Mena Suvari, Richard Fike, and Abigail Esmena Froehle. This looks like a complex thriller that deals with all the moral implications – good and bad – of this situation. Might be worth a look. We're back with another edition of Horror Highlights! Today's installment gives you a tease of The Howling Wind, the official trailer for The Droving, and details on the recent acquisition of Don't Tell a Soul:
The Howling Wind: "During a plagued dust and wind storm, a countryman takes in a weary traveler seeking refuge — but discovers the truth in the circumstances of his arrival."
"The Howling Wind, at its core, depicts how good people can become monsters when their survival is at stake. In the midst of a natural threat outside, the real terror comes from within. Our vision in crafting The Howling Wind was to utilize the classic style and timeless setting of the early 1960s in order to tell a universal story that although shot in early January, presciently reflects present day events."

Our vision in crafting The Howling Wind was to utilize the classic style and timeless setting of the early 1960s in order to tell a universal story that although shot in early January, presciently reflects present day events."
The film was directed by Lorian Gish and Justin Knoepfel, written by Justin Knoepfel and stars Anthony Arkin,...

A breakthrough performance by a talented young actress is always a sight to behold. Last year at the Tribeca Film Festival, I saw Zoey Deutch own the screen in Flower. This independent picture has stayed with me for almost 12 full months, mainly due to Deutch’s captivating turn. She is riveting, to the point where I’m just as eager to fete her performance today as I was in the moments after that Tribeca screening ended last April. That’s the mark of a talented actress, and Deutch is certainly one. In fact, within the next few years, I’m sure I’ll be writing about her as an A-lister and potentially even an award winner. The movie is an indie black comedy/coming of age story. Erica (Deutch) is a troublemaking teen who, when we first meet her, is blackmailing a small-town cop after performing a sexual act on him.

It’s hard to know whether Erica Vandross, the 17-year-old at the center of Max Winkler’s “Flower,” is meant to be an a-hole we unexpectedly like or a likeable person who sometimes behaves like an a-hole, but Zoey Deutch’s performance constitutes one of the most curious mis-applications of natural acting charisma I’ve ever seen. Deutch, winning in a lot of films unworthy of her (“Why Him,” “Dirty Grandpa,” “Vampire Academy”), commands the screen as if the quandary doesn’t matter, while Winkler and co-screenwriters Alex McAulay and Matt Spicer construct a story that lurks somewhere between “Sixteen Candles,” “Palo Alto” and “Fish...

Max Winkler’s debut Ceremony was an assured indie dramedy and now eight years later, he’s back with his follow-up. Flower, which premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival last year, has the impressive cast of Zoey Deutch, Kathryn Hahn, Adam Scott, Tim Heidecker, Joey Morgan, Dylan Gelula, and Maya Eshet. Ahead of release this March, The Orchard has debuted the full trailer. Telling the story of the Everybody Wants Some!! star as an L.A. teen who loves to rebel with her group of friends, and gets in a bit over her head, it looks like Winkler has cooked up another witty, well-observed comedy.
See the trailer and poster below.
Rebellious, quick-witted Erica Vandross (Zoey Deutch) is a 17-year-old firecracker living with her single mom Laurie (Kathryn Hahn) and mom’s new boyfriend Bob (Tim Heidecker) in L.A.’s San Fernando Valley. When Bob’s mentally unbalanced son...
