The film received a theatrical release earlier this year before reaching the Shudder streaming service, and now it has been announced that IFC Films and Shudder will be bringing Late Night With the Devil back to theatres tomorrow, June 6th, for screenings that will begin at 6pm and will include a Q&a with star Dastmalchian and filmmaker Kevin Smith, who directed Dastmalchian in Jay and Silent Bob Reboot. Starring MCU and DC Universe alumni David Dastmalchian and Laura Gordon (Undertow), the upcoming horror flick Late Night with the Devil has just released its first official clip from the movie. Directed and written by Colin and Cameron Cairnes, Late Night with the Devil is an upcoming found footage horror film that was initially shown during the South by Southwest Film Festival (SXSW) on 10 March 2023, receiving very positive reviews from critics.
The film will have its theatrical premiere on March 22, 2024, while Shudder will stream it starting from April 19, 2024. The official synopsis of the movie reveals the following:
Presented in a found footage style, David Dastmalchian stars as Jack Delroy, the host of a fictional 1970s variety and late-night talk show titled Night Owls with Jack Delroy. A film that is truly transfixing from its very first frame to the moment its eerie end credits roll, Colin Cairnes and Cameron Cairnes' Late Night with the Devil was one of my favorite screenings at last year's Overlook Film Festival. Taking place during a late-night talk show one fateful (and frightful) Halloween in 1977, Late Night with the Devil features a powerfully poignant performance by the always-great David Dastmalchian, and ahead of the film's theatrical release on March 22nd via IFC Films and its April 19th streaming release on Shudder, we have a look at the movie's chilling trailer and fiery poster that warns you to "not adjust your set."
Synopsis: October 31, 1977. Johnny Carson rival Jack Delroy hosts a syndicated late night talk show ‘Night Owls’ that has long been a trusted companion to insomniacs around the country. A year after the tragic death of Jack’s wife, ratings have plummeted.

Joel Anderson's "Lake Mungo" is one of the most enduring horror movies of the aughts. While the Australian documentary-style film started small -- it was made on a shoestring budget and premiered at the Sydney Film Festival in 2008 -- the reputation of "Lake Mungo" has only grown in the 15 years since its release. The movie is enigmatic and polarizing. While some horror fans see its mellowly presented talking-head interview structure as mundane, others call it one of the scariest movies of all time thanks to the creeping sense of dread that builds throughout the movie, culminating in a heart-pounding third-act reveal.
Both camps, though, seem to agree that there's more to "Lake Mungo" than meets the eye. The movie about a dead girl's family seeking closure after her drowning includes several clear-cut twists, but also a handful of points of ambiguity -- and scenes that gesture towards interpretations of...

Few experiences unite people from all walks of life like a fear of the dark. Often surpassing specific concerns of serial killers, monsters, witches, or demons, what we collectively fear most is that mysterious, dark unknown. Anything and everything could be lurking in the shadows just waiting to pounce. Two days after ”Everything Everywhere All at Once“ won seven Oscars, including best picture, the SXSW Film Festival, where Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert’s movie launched last year, has announced its own awards. To be clear, “Eeaao” was a studio-backed opening night premiere (not one of the smaller movies launched in competition at the indie-focused fest), but you can still feel the excitement in Austin around the landmark Oscar win. After all, SXSW was the first festival to take Daniels seriously, awarding them top prize for their Battles music video (“My Machines”) in 2012.

U.S. actor David Dastmalchian is attached to star as the host of a late-night talk show that goes horribly wrong in upcoming indie chiller “Late Night With the Devil,” which is currently shooting in Australia.
Directed by Australian writing-directing duo Colin and Cameron Cairnes, “Late Night” is the second title spawned by a multi-picture deal between low-budget U.S. genre label Spooky Pictures and Image Nation Abu Dhabi, following Chloe Okuno’s “Watcher,” which made a splash at Sundance.
Dastmalchian, who in Denis Villeneuve’s “Dune” played the Twisted Mentat Piter de Vries, a human specially trained to perform mental functions rivaling computers, will next be seen in Amblin’s horror-thriller “Last Voyage of the Demeter,” directed by André Øvredal, and in Christopher Nolan’s “Oppenheimer.”

When cinephiles talk about film, we often find ourselves discussing directorial careers; the trademarks, the way we see their identities as filmmakers emerge and change. That’s fascinating, but equally interesting in their own way are those directors who give us only one film to look at. It might be a singular masterpiece, a cult item, or a contender for worst film ever made (Manos: The Hands of Fate). In the case of Joel Anderson, writer/director of Lake Mungo, what we have is not just a great film, but real unfulfilled promise of a career we’re yet to see.
Lake Mungo is a faux documentary telling the story of the Palmer family in the wake of the drowning death of 16 year old Alice (Talia Zucker). Her parents June and Russell (Rosie Traynor and David Pledger) and brother Matthew (Martin Sharpe) are obviously devastated, and all begin...

In horror films, cheap thrills are just as good as expensive ones. You don’t need a huge budget to scare your audience senseless. Take the new British chiller Host, described by Dread Central as “the scariest film of the past decade” – it all takes place on a laptop screen, and features a handful of actors and just a sprinkling of effects, but manages to be incredibly effective and unsettling. Here’s a selection of some of the best low budget horrors that have revolutionised the genre with their cost-cutting approach to fright, using resourcefulness, new technology and canny marketing to work around budgetary restrictions.
Night of the Living Dead (1969)
George A.Romero’s zombie shocker, featuring a group of people under siege from the undead in a farmhouse, cost a little over $100k and made over $18million at the box office. Superbly scripted and beautifully photographed, Romero garnered terrific...

Contains spoilers for the movie Lake Mungo.
“We were thinking it’d be nice if we could make a film that was kind of a curiosity, but if you saw it years from now you wouldn’t know anything about where it came from.”
This quote from a 2009 interview with Lake Mungo director Joel Anderson proved to be strangely prescient. Anderson was speaking ahead of the film’s screening at the Brisbane Film Festival – the movie had already premiered at the Sydney Film Festival, played South by Southwest in the US, and would go on to tour several more festivals before eventually finding its way onto DVD.
Anderson conducted a few interviews. He talked about how the film had in part come about because he wanted to make something cheap and manageable that could be shot in sections because he’d had trouble getting financing for a different, bigger, more...

After two seasons of charting infamous presidential sagas, the hit podcast “Slow Burn” is turning its attention to the world of music. Slate announced on Wednesday that Season 3 would be the latest piece of entertainment to focus on the circumstances surrounding the deaths of legendary artists Tupac Shakur and the Notorious B.I.G.
Along with this reveal comes the introduction of a new host: incoming Slate staff writer Joel Anderson, who joins the site from ESPN, where his coverage centered on stories and issues within and connected to the world of college sports. Prior to ESPN, Anderson worked on both the national and investigative reporting teams at BuzzFeed, where he also charted the interaction between sports and culture at large.
“The first two seasons of Slow Burn went deep on big historical moments, and I’ve always wanted the opportunity to tell stories that way,” Anderson said of the new position.

Many film websites published “decade’s best horror films” lists in late 2009/early 2010. While these lists collectively provided a rough snapshot of the genre’s ups and downs during that time, with more time to reflect, it becomes increasingly clear what an important period the 2000’s were for the horror genre on a global scale.
Not only did this decade easily and obviously eclipse the comparatively arid 1990’s in both volume of production and overall quality, the 2000’s can also be looked at as a crucial one for horror cinema despite the justified outrage about the American film industry’s widespread strip-mining of classics and foreign films for remakes/re-boots and its saturation of the market with teen-friendly PG-13 rated horror films.
While by no means as groundbreaking as the 1970’s or as sentimentally regarded as the 1980’s, the 2000’s will be recalled as the decade that, despite well-founded criticisms...

Breaking Dawn Part 2 poster: Taylor Lautner as Jacob Black Taylor Lautner returns as the shapeshifter / werewolf Jacob Black in one of three The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2 character posters released earlier today. The other two Breaking Dawn Part 2 posters star red-eyed newborn vampire Kristen Stewart and golden-eyed centenarian vampire Robert Pattinson. Since vampires are immortal, all three posters feature the tagline "Forever." Now, I don’t think werewolves live forever. Jacob’s poster should read "For now," especially considering how his affections shift from Bella to another key character in Breaking Dawn Part 2. Directed by Kinsey / Dreamgirls‘ Bill Condon from a screenplay by Melissa Rosenberg (based on Stephenie Meyer’s novel), Breaking Dawn 2 is the final installment in the Twilight Saga film series. [Check out the Breaking Dawn 2 teaser poster.] In Breaking Dawn Part 2, Edward Cullen and his newborn-vampire wife Bella Swan-Cullen (Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart) must stand their ground against the ancient Volturi Clan (Michael Sheen,...

The other two Breaking Dawn Part 2 posters feature Kristen Stewart and Taylor Lautner. Since vampires are immortal, all three have the tagline "Forever." (Though I’m not sure that would apply to werewolf Jacob Black.) [Check out Kristen Stewart BD2 poster.] Directed by Kinsey / Dreamgirls‘ Bill Condon from a screenplay by Melissa Rosenberg (based on Stephenie Meyer’s bestseller), Breaking Dawn 2 is the final installment in the Twilight Saga movie franchise. [Check out the Breaking Dawn 2 teaser poster.] In Breaking Dawn 2, Edward Cullen and his newborn-vampire wife Bella Swan-Cullen (Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart) must face off against the Volturi Clan (Michael Sheen, Dakota Fanning, Jamie Campbell Bower, and others) in order to protect their hybrid baby Renesmee (part Mackenzie Foy, part cgi). Though harmless, Renesmee is perceived to be a dangerous baby vampire.

Robert Pattinson: Breaking Dawn 2 "reshoots" Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart, and Michael Sheen are back in Vancouver for the Breaking Dawn – Part 2 "reshoots" — or rather, "pickup shots." A couple of weeks ago, Breaking Dawn director Bill Condon announced that he, Pattinson, Stewart, and cinematographer Guillermo Navarro would be heading back to Vancouver to work for a few days on a handful of shots. (Inevitably, there are already Twitter stories claiming that Pattinson’s bodyguard assaulted a couple of people upon Pattinson’s arrival.) Bill Condon’s companion, Jack Morrissey, later explained that Condon had not been responsible for the missing (or mismatched) footage, placing the blame on Breaking Dawn 2’s second-unit crew. "The coming additional photography is stuff that was conceived, developed, and was to be executed by the second unit during the period of principal photography," Morrissey told his podcast listeners. "For various reasons, it was not executed by the second unit … So,...

Taylor Lautner, Breaking Dawn 2 Taylor Lautner’s Jacob Black — not shirtless, sorry — gives you The (Were)Wolf Look in this The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2 photo released earlier today. Another just-released Breaking Dawn 2 image shows Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson’s Edward Cullen and Bella Swan-Cullen wearing vampire contacts while looking into the distance. In Catherine Hardwicke’s Twilight, Lautner had a minor supporting role as a teenager infatuated with Bella Swan (then still a human). He became a full-fledged leading man in Chris Weitz’s The Twilight Saga: New Moon and David Slade’s The Twilight Saga: Eclipse, in which he and Pattinson’s vampire fight for Bella’s hand, body, love, and life. (It’s really all that.) In Breaking Dawn 2, things are different because Bella is no longer human. As a vampire, she’s out of Jacob’s reach; but then again, he seems to have lost interest.

Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson, Breaking Dawn 2 Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson, both sporting what looks like golden contacts, are seen in one of the two The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2 photos released earlier today. [Check out the Breaking Dawn 2 teaser poster.] The other one features Taylor Lautner sporting a black shirt but no contacts. Directed by Kinsey / Dreamgirls‘ Bill Condon from a screenplay by Melissa Rosenberg (based on Stephenie Meyer’s bestselling novel), Breaking Dawn 2 is the final installment of the Twilight movie series. In Breaking Dawn 2, Bella Swan-Cullen (Stewart) has become a vampire. Her husband, Edward Cullen (Pattinson), has been a vampire for a long time; something like nine decades or so. But if you’re a vampire you don’t grow old, you don’t become impotent, and that means you can still procreate. The result of all those evolutionary traits is Renesmee (Mackenzie Foy), a hybrid human-vampire baby who, like so many creatures...

Breaking Dawn 2 teaser poster The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2's teaser poster is the blue version of The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1's teaser poster. It's easy to see why Summit Entertainment (now part of Lionsgate) opted to have the red version for Breaking Dawn 1 and the blue one for Breaking Dawn 2. Had it been the other way around, people might think they were looking at the teaser poster for Dan Bradley / Chris Hemsworth / Josh Hutcherson's Red Dawn, which also opens next November — but that features nasty North Korean soldiers instead of nasty European vampires. Those with a good eye will notice another difference in the Breaking Dawn 2 poster: But it's in Italian! Is that because of the Volturi? No, silly. For starters, the poster is in Spanish. And no, it's not in honor of some ancient Mexican or Chilean vampire. It's merely a marketing-savvy approach to...

Kristen Stewart as the vampire Bella Swan, Breaking Dawn Part 2 The previously announced The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2 "reshoots" should actually be called "additional photography" or "pickup shots," according to Jack Morrissey, director Bill Condon's companion. (One site explains: "Condon is openly guy [sic].") In the Twilight Examiner, Amanda Bell has transcribed much of a Morrissey podcast on the upcoming Breaking Dawn 2 shoot. Among the key points discussed by Morrissey is that filming — involving Condon, Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart, and Michael Sheen (who plays one of the Volturi vampires) — should take place in Vancouver within the next two weeks and that this additional work should last about four days. Morrissey adds that the issue wasn't anything done — or not done — by Condon ("Nothing that he directed has been reshot or will be reshot…"), placing the blame squarely on the second unit crew. "The coming additional photography is stuff that was conceived,...

Kristen Stewart as The New Bella Swan, Breaking Dawn 2 poster Does this look like a vampish Bella Swan? I think it does. This "fan-made" poster featuring Kristen Stewart as the transformed Bella Swan-Cullen in The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2 was created by Deviant artist RyoDambar. Bella looks human — in the sense that she could walk around town without having people flee for their lives — while at the same time looking different. Whereas Summit Entertainment had their makeup people throw tons of white powder on the faces of the Twilight movie vampires, the look of this Vampire Bella is quite subtle. As it should be. In fact, Stewart's Bella looks like a character out of one of the classier Hammer productions. Breaking Dawn 2 teaser trailer: Robert Pattinson/Edward Cullen and the mysterious Kristen Stewart/Bella Swan's hair The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2 teaser trailer (please scroll down) — actually a flash-teaser of the upcoming BD2 teaser trailer — doesn't offer much to see or hear: Taylor Lautner/Jacob Black says to Kristen Stewart/Bella Swan-Cullen, "I didn't expect … you seem so … You," while Robert Pattinson/Edward Cullen whispers to her "We're the same temperature now." Breaking Dawn 1 Blu-ray: Taylor Lautner, Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson Studios have been complaining about decreasing DVD sales in the last several years. Perhaps they should put out more DVD/Blu-ray versions of The Twilight Saga. Despite marked-up prices, this pre-Valentine's Day weekend the Kristen Stewart-Robert Pattinson-Taylor Lautner blockbuster The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 1 sold 3.2 million DVD/Blu-ray units — an 18% increase over the previous Twilight release. David Slade's Eclipse, which came out in December 2010, sold 2.7 million copies on its first weekend out. It gets better: Breaking Dawn 1 resulted in 50,000 digital copies sold and 80,000 rentals via Video on Demand, representing increases over Eclipse of 47% and 142%, respectively. Now, Chris Weitz's New Moon sold 4 million copies in March 2010 and Catherine Hardwicke's Twilight sold 3.8 million copies in March of the previous year.
