Whether or not you believe in life after death, there’s no denying that there’s entertainment to be found in the exploration of the unknown. That’s why I appreciate the extreme popularity of ghost hunting shows despite being a life-long skeptic and understanding that most of these programs greatly exaggerate their findings in the pursuit of ratings.
However, not all paranormal investigators are created equal, with some of them actually having a minimum of respect for the scientific method and operating on a series of rational principles instead of simply reacting to make-believe noises and looking scared for the camera. And luckily for fans of these less sensationalist professionals, Taps (The Atlantic Paranormal Society) investigator and founding member of the original Ghost Hunters, Steve Gonsalves, has just released a memoir detailing his personal experience as a researcher of the supernatural.

Welcome back to Dead Time. Do you believe in ghosts? Even if you’re a skeptic, you’ve probably tuned into at least one of the many TV shows or web series about ghost hunting. I’ve been watching paranormal reality television shows since Ghost Hunters first aired on Syfy in 2004, so this month I wanted to talk to one of the Og ghost hunters, paranormal investigator and researcher Adam Berry.
The original Ghost Hunters featured paranormal investigators Jason Hawes and Grant Wilson, who formed The Atlantic Paranormal Society (Taps) and assembled a team which included Steve Gonsalves and Dave Tango. Each episode followed the Taps team as they explored allegedly haunted locations, and the show became extremely successful. Ghost Hunters eventually spawned several spinoff television series, including Ghost Hunters Academy (2009), a paranormal competition reality show. When paranormal investigator Adam Berry won Ghost Hunters Academy, his prize was supposed to...

Truth may be stranger than fiction, but it’s often scarier as well. After all, it’s not unusual for real life mysteries and deaths to leave Hollywood in the dust when it comes to producing genuine fear. With that in mind, we’ve previously published a couple of lists celebrating some of the scariest documentaries ever made.
However, there’s no shortage of authentic scares when it comes to filmmaking, and that’s why we’re back with another list recommending six more scary documentaries that horror fans might enjoy. After all, whether you’re into true crime or paranormal investigations, there’s something for everyone when it comes to non-fiction thrills.
As usual, we’ll be abiding by a couple of rules when selecting our movies. First of all, no docs that have been previously featured on any of our lists. Second, we’ll be excluding mockumentaries like...

If you’re lucky, though, you just might catch a glimpse of giant skeletons haunting a suburban lawn. That’s right, Halloween is upon us once again. Yes, Ghostober returns to Travel Channel, Food Network, and discovery+ for frights every night all October long.

What better way to ring in 2022 than with the Taps (The Atlantic Paranormal Society) and Ghost Hunters. The long-running series settles into its new home January 1 on discovery+ as original crew Jason Hawes, Steve Gonsalves, and Dave Tango join Shari DeBenedetti for a series of new spooky investigations. They’ll bring in familiar faces from the supernatural world for many of the 12 episodes to help them uncover the haunts and activity lurking in the shadows of these locales. Here, Gonsalves gives us some of the chilling details in the season to come. How would you explain your working dynamic now compared to when you first started together? How much has changed? Steve Gonsalves: That’s a good question. Taps has always been a large team. When you have a team that big, you need some structure. In the early days, you had Jason and Grant [Wilson] with me leading the tech side.

Steve Gonsalves helped bring the art of paranormal investigation into the mainstream in 2004 as part of Syfy’s original Ghost Hunters team, opening many new doors in the paranormal world and putting a genre on the map. Now, he’s back with Ghost Hunters alums Dave Tango and Jason Hawes, diving into new cases across the U.S. with Travel Channel’s Ghost Nation.
Ghost Nation is the response to over a decade of experience in the paranormal TV world. Steve and the team put the good name they’ve built and years of experience to good use with an increased focus on specifically helping families either debunk or manage their haunting, while also working with local paranormal teams (that sprung up in the wake of Ghost Hunters) that have called them in to help crack their cases.

Ghost-hunting teams from Travel Channel’s “Ghost Nation” and “Kindred Spirits” cross over into one paranormal super event on Halloween night: Investigators from both shows will work together again for the first time in seven years for “Ghost Nation: Reunion in Hell.”

“Halloween is Travel Channel’s Super Bowl,” Matthew Butler, general manager, Travel Channel, said. “We’re pulling out all the stops for ‘Ghostober’ this year – from a live ghost hunt in Salem, Massachusetts, and an iconic investigation of the house that inspired ‘The Conjuring,’ to reopening the case files of America’s first ghost hunter, Hans Holzer. And we have the biggest...

If anyone is going to see a ghost, it's going to be one of the "Ghost Hunters" crew. However, Steve Gonsalves, one of the cast members of the SyFy series, says he's never seen what many would classify as a ghost.
"What you would think of as the floating apparition, I've never seen that," he tells Fox News. That doesn't mean he's giving up the fight though, as he's been in the presence of plenty of evidence suggesting that something is going on. "I've seen a lot of things I can't explain -- objects moving, things falling that doesn't make sense, smells, black masses, that sort of thing," he says, "but I've never seen an actual ghost."
As Gonsalves continues to look for answers to questions like "Is there life after death?" and "Where do we go?" he says people don't need to be afraid of the possibility of ghosts.

When Syfy's "Ghost Hunters" returns Wednesday (June 12) for its midseason premiere, Jason Hawes and the specter seekers of The Atlantic Paranormal Society promise fun for all involved.
"We've caught some crazy stuff," Hawes tells Zap2it. "In the new season, when it comes back, there's some really just wild moments, some incredible activity that we caught that's almost impossible to explain."
Joining Hawes are tech manager Steve Gonsalves; investigators Dave Tango, Amy Bruni, Britt Griffith, Adam Berry and Michelle Tate; and canine crew member Maddie.
Even with Gonsalves' considerable technical expertise, the elusive spirits aren't making it easy for the Taps team.
"People are going to have to draw their own conclusions about the stuff we caught," Hawes says. "I can't get into too much, but it's weird when you start having camera issues ... you have certain cameras in a room, and then you hear voices, and they're talking specifically about messing with your equipment.

The new season of Ghost Hunters is upon us, premiering on January 11 on the SyFy network, and we are happy to share a preview of the first episode with you. First though, let’s look back at the origin of this haunting powerhouse of a show…
In 2004, the the now SyFy (then “Sci-Fi”) network premiered Ghost Hunters, a paranormal investigation program unlike anything else on television at the time. Following the spooky exploits of Grant Wilson and Jason Hawes, Roto-Rooter plumbers by day and The Atlantic Paranormal Society (Taps) members by night, Ghost Hunters took audiences into the dark rooms, foreboding basements, and whispering attics we are all curious about, but reluctant to explore. Audiences have latched on to the revolving cast (mostly settled now) of characters who have joined Hawes and Wilson, getting to know the “hunters” through candid conversation and hyjinx over the years.

They don’t know me from any of the “spirits” they try to coax out of hiding, but there is always something inviting about spending time with the men and women of The Atlantic Paranormal Society (Taps), even if it is via my 46 inch Led for an hour once a week.
Since my days of trick-or-treating have long passed and my daughter has reached an age where it simply isn’t appropriate to be out begging for Snicker bars and Bit o’ Honeys, we find ourselves with the dilemma of needing something to occupy our time in between doorbell rings on All Hallows Eve.
Enter the Ghost Hunters 6 hour live broadcast on the SyFy channel. For the 2nd straight year, the kid and I plopped down to immerse ourselves in this annual televised spectacle, hoping to catch a glimpse of a lurking shadow or hear the wail of a disembodied spirit.

Ghost Hunters In the next sneak peek clip of the next all new episode of Ghost Hunters entitled French Quater Phantoms, Steve Gonsalves and Dave Tango explore the second floor of a historical New Orleans building. As they’re discussing their surroundings, an enormous door into another room slowly opens with a shuttering moan afterword. As they’re trying to not move and figure out what to do next, the door suddenly slams and leaves them in silence. They both try to laugh it off as Steven says, “Now what do we do about that?”

The Ghost Hunters name is starting to rival CSI and Law & Order in the spinoff department. What else do all three of these franchises share? There's just as much hard paranormal evidence in the last two as appears in the first.
Please don't misunderstand me -- since I've gone off on this topic before. I'm not saying ghosts don't exist. I'm not saying there's no afterlife. I don't begrudge any scientific investigation into parapsychology or realms described as paranormal. I'd just like any of the endless march of "ghost-based" shows to dig up one scintilla of proof that they found something and, therefore, deserve to be on TV every week.
The latest entry is Syfy's Ghost Hunter's Academy -- sort of Most Haunted meets The Rookies from the 70s. Each week, ghost hunting "professors" (the show's conceit, not mine) Steve Gonsalves and Dave Tango welcome first-time paranormal investigators onto The Atlantic Paranormal Society (Taps) team.

It's Sunday morning, 10am Mountain time. I tried to get some sleep after a fun and exciting night of ghost hunting with the Taps team at The Stanley Hotel!
{sidebar id=1}Jason Hawes, Grant Wilson, Steve Gonsalves, Dave Tango and Kris Williams let us into their world for an evening as we went from room to room at the hotel with various equipment looking for signs of the paranormal.
It was a fantastic night! I had a wonderful time as did the other journalists in my group. We began our night with dinner and conversation about how excited we were about our upcoming time with the Ghost Hunters. A common question, are you a believer or a non-believer? Honestly, I am a non-believer. I've never seen anything that has convinced me to believe that there is some sort of afterlife. Until now!! No, I'm kidding. But we were in for a fun night!
