Following the release of 31 Days last year, Rae Mystic is back with a new photography collection! Spectacles, now available for pre-order, highlights clown archtypes, with over 100 photos that celebrate "collaboration, diversity, community, identity, and clowns":
"When renowned photographer Rae Mystic was in the 2nd grade, their principal taped a note to their desk that read, “Do you choose to be a star or a spectacle?” with an image of a Windows 98 clip-art clown. The motivation behind the image was to serve as a reminder not to “act out” in class but has instead turned into the motivating factor behind a new clown-themed photography collection.
Clowns come in all shapes, sizes, and styles, and each clown archetype featured was crafted in collaboration with the featured models. The goal is to use the visual language of clowns and clowning to help showcase what makes each subject “who they are” and what makes them special.

Since The Vampire Diaries premiered back in September 2009, a lot have things have changed. TV has become unrecognisable. The CW has evolved far past its identity as a haven for teen romance and guilty pleasure soap opera to a haven for superheroes and critically acclaimed soap opera, and the vampire craze faded out along with True Blood and The Twilight Saga.

Is everyone entitled to redemption?
That question was raised several times on The Vampire Diaries Season 8 Episode 13 as Kai and Stefan sought redemption in their own ways.
Kai returned to cause more mischief, and despite what most of us thought, his appearance was not a result of Bonnie's sorrow creating that alternate dimension for Enzo (more on that in a little!).
The beauty of Chris Wood's return was that it was evident his appearance would be tied to the return of Elena. I loved that Matt's actions were the reason for Kai's return.
Just wait to see him try to twist that little nugget of truth and imply it was someone else's fault. Matt Donovan may be getting a lot more screen time this season, but he's also got this huge ego that makes him think he can do no wrong.

Warning: The following contains spoilers from Thursday’s season premiere of The Vampire Diaries.
The Vampire Diaries returned for Season 6 on Thursday night, but not all of its players were back to their old selves.
Elena, for one, was suppressing her grief by taking witchy drugs to “see” Damon and feeding on humans on the outskirts of Mystic Falls — not that it was helping. To truly make the pain go away, she asked Alaric for a drastic favor.
Then there’s Stefan, who was off living a new life with a new girl, while Damon and Bonnie were bonding… somewhere.

Plus, we have our first look at former ‘True Blood’ star Janina Gavankar’s leap to ‘The Vampire Diaries!’
Now that Elena (Nina Dobrev) is in college, she’s got a whole new set of problems, like trying to stay awake through class — and trying to stay alive, in general! New pictures from the Oct. 17 episode of The Vampire Diaries find the baby vampire in some hot water with a cold-blooded baddie named Nadia (Olga Fonda), who fans will meet for the first time on the show’s Oct. 3 season premiere.
The pictures show Nadia packing heat, and by the looks of things, she’s got her sights set on Ms. Gilbert.
It’s unclear weather all that action is going down in Mystic Falls or at Whitmore College — Nadia appears in Mystic Falls on the premiere, though it’s possible she could be traveling — but either way, things aren’t looking great for Elena.

Vampire Diaries season 5 new very pretty, exotic lady arriving for romantic action. According to a recent report from TV Line , the Vampire Diaries season 5 folks are bringing on True Blood alum ,Janina Gavankar, to join the action. Anybody who watches True Blood, knows that Janina is extremely hot and exotic-looking,and we're very happy to see her back in action on Vd. She will be playing character Tessa, who is officially described as being a "beautiful, exotic and self-assured woman who comes to Mystic Falls to rekindle an old flame." Tessa will potentially be a recurring role,so we could be seeing more of her, from time to time, which is just fine with me. Tessa is scheduled to make her first appearance in the 3rd episode, which is also going to serve up a new flashback scene to a decade we haven't seen yet. Janina formerly played a shape shifter on True Blood,...

Janina Gavankar is on her way to Mystic Falls.
The TV Fanatic favorite (see this interview) has landed a potentially recurring role on The Vampire Diaries as Tessa, described by TV Line as an exotic, confident woman who arrives in Mystic Falls and who debuts on Episode 3, which we already know will be a flashback installment.
It's a very safe assumption that she will be portraying an ex-girlfriend of Stefan's. A vengeful ex, we should say.
Gavankar is best known for her long-running role on True Blood and has also stopped by Arrow, The League and The Gates.
The Vampire Diaries Season 5, meanwhile, premiere on Thursday, October 3.

You know the space at your local Barnes and Noble where the graphic-novel section bleeds into the young-adult section? This is the place where The CW lives. I like to imagine that the network has installed surveillance cameras in the spines of all those unsellable copies of Chris Ware’s Building Stories so its execs can spy on their target audience, see what their buying, and develop accordingly. The geeky, young, female-skewing weblet announced today that it will add three new dramas and reorganize its schedule to use existing successful franchises like Arrow and Supernatural to build hits and stronger nights.

At the foot of a sweeping grand staircase in the foyer of an imposing early 20th century mansion, Famke Janssen is stoically explaining what's going to happen next to Bill Skarsgard as he fights back tears.
The two are filming a scene of "Hemlock Grove," the epic new Netflix series helmed by horror-master Eli Roth. The show is based on Brian McGreevy's novel of the same name, and follows two teenage boys (Skarsgard and "Degrassi" alum Landon Liboiron) at the center of a murder mystery in a creepy small town full of supernatural elements.
Its horror-esque approach and broad mix of supernatural beings may sound a lot like "True Blood" (which stars Skarsgard's older brother Alexander), but "Hemlock" is carving its own path. "We started by casting an entirely different Skarsgard," jokes McGreevy, who serves as an executive producer on the show.

Ian Somerhalder, Nina Dobrev & Paul Wesley of The Vampire Diaries
We’re four years into vampires, werewolves, witches and hybrids making life very interesting for the residents of Mystic Falls on The Vampire Diaries. While the show is still undeniably strong, it does seem to be going through some growing pains both on the good side (Steven R McQueen regularly in wife beaters) and not-so-good side (Elena is sired to Damon? Wtf?). We gathered a group of top TV Critics together to chat up the show.
For this Roundtable, we have Robyn Ross (Staff Editor, TVGuide.com), Matt Richenthal (Editor-in-Chief, TVFanatic.com) Brian Gianelli (Senior TV Editor, XFinityTV), Louis Peitzman (Associate Editor, Buzzfeed.com) and our own Jim Halterman.
After the years of build-up, is the Elena (Nina Dobrev) and Damon (Ian Somerhalder) pairing delivering?

We asked, you voted: Robert Pattinson & Nina Dobrev’s undead personas owned 2012!
I don’t mean to perpetuate the acceptance of necrophilia, but there were so many sexy dead people in 2012. Between The Vampire Diaries, True Blood and that little movie Breaking Dawn Part 2, you couldn’t turn your head this year without laying eyes on a gorgeous member of Hollywood’s growing undead population. HollywoodLife.com polled all of you to find out which male and female vampire reigned supreme, and after hundreds of thousands of votes…
Robert Pattinson‘s Edward Cullen nabbed the title of Hottest Male Vampire with 59 percent of the votes, while Nina Dobrev‘s newly turned Elena Gilbert was named Hottest Female Vampire with 40 percent.
Objectively, I really do think both vampires deserve their respective wins. Not only did Edward absolutely wreck his new bride in Breaking Dawn Part 2, but we also got to see...

Put aside your shipper preferences for a hot second and tell me that was not a damn fine way to wake up! In "We'll Always Have Bourbon Street," we were treated to another erotic Damon and Elena scene, successfully picking up where we left off at the end of last week.
Unfortunately, that includes having a sexy scene completely marred with Caroline Forbes intensity and whining. Jeez, if Elena's ex boyfriend is telling you to calm down about it, then take a damn breather girl! You are clearly flirting with Klaus and somewhat attracted to him, so let's not get into a hypocritical best friend judgment situation until we know all the facts.
Thanks to Tyler's hard bodied wisdom and Nandi the New Orleans witch, True Blood's Adina Porter, we are now enlightened on what it means for one vampire to be sired to another.

Here we are, back again for an all-new season of The Vampire Diaries. Over a series of flashbacks, Stefan, Damon, Elena, Bonnie, Klaus and Jeremy fill us in on the history of Mystic Falls and its centuries as a haven for supernatural creatures, along with events from last season culminating in the tragic death of Alaric, Klaus's staking and Rebekah forcing Matt to drive off Wickery Bridge where Elena is left to drown. Elena has the last word: “And then there's me. I'm human. At least I was.” She opens her eyes with a gasp on a table in the morgue.
Now that is how you do a voiceover recap, Amy Pond.
Elena jolts awake in her room the next morning to find Stefan and Damon watching over her. Stefan explains about the accident and assures her that Matt is fine. She begins, “How did you...” and Damon, who's kept...

Perhaps it was due to my constantly high expectations for The Vampire Diaries. Or the extra couple weeks fans had to wait this season for the October premiere. Or simply an off episode that was used more to set the stage for what's to come than thrill and shock on its own.
But I was let down by "Growing Pains."
Chalk it up to a combination of predictability and confusion, starting with the most pressing issue of all: Elena as a vampire.
We all knew she was going to turn. There wasn't much drama in whether she would feed within 24 hours, removing a lot of the suspense and sadness from that (very well-acted) scene between Elena and Stefan in the barn.
Granted, we still aren't sure what sort of blood sucker Elena will make. Will she gorge on rabbits or humans? Give in to her heightened emotions? Or put up...

Another day, another schedule for the 2012 San Diego Comic-Con. Next up is Day 3 - Saturday, July 14th - which is just about as chock-full of events for the horror crowd as Friday the 13th!
As always, our focus is the horror panels, but included are a few others that we think will be of interest as well. Remember that times and participants are subject to change so keep your eyes on the official Sdcc site for updates. And hopefully they'll provide a fix soon for the Sdcc smartphone app - in years past it's been extremely helpful.
10:00-11:00 Comic-Con How-To: Anatomy of a Fight Scene, Part One— Stories are about conflict, and there is no purer form of conflict than a good ol' fisticuffs-style brawl-or sword fight, laser battle, western shootout, or even two chicks pulling each other's hair. "The Vampire Diaries" has no shortage of tricks up its sleeve as we approach the end of Season 3. After the twist with the Original bloodlines, I was expecting more of a straightforward episode, but the final moments of "Heart of Darkness" surprised us yet again.
A lot of this episode's success can be attributed to Stefan and Alaric sharing significant screen time together. These two don't usually confide in each other, but this week, they had no other option, and their conversation revealed a lot about how both of these men work at this stage in the game. We were also privy to some very genuine moments between Damon and Elena, though those moments weren't particularly flattering to Elena as she cast blame and played dumb.
