Charlie Hunnam ("Pacific Rim," "Sons of Anarchy") will star opposite Robert Pattinson and Sienna Miller in James Gray's film adaptation of David Grann's Amazonian mystery novel "The Lost City of Z" at Plan B and Mica Entertainment.
Hunnam is replacing Benedict Cumberbatch, who was previously set to star but had to leave the project due to his commitments to other projects - namely Marvel's "Doctor Strange"
Hunan will play Colonel Percival Harrison Fawcett, a former decorated British soldier turned early 20th century explorer. Fawcett and his son disappeared in 1925 during an expedition to find the ancient and lost 'City of Z' in the uncharted jungles of the Amazon.
Over the next seventy years, scores of explorers tried and failed to retrace Fawcett's path, including a 1996 expedition of Brazilian adventurers. Brad Pitt, Dede Gardner, Jeremy Kleiner, Dale Johnson and Anthony Katagas are producing.

Well… at least the film is still going forward, right? While we would've much preferred Benedict Cumberbatch joining Robert Pattinson and Sienna Miller in James Gray's next film, it appears fate had other plans. Well, fate and the scheduling for Marvel's "Doctor Strange." The Wrap reports that Charlie Hunnam will replace the Oscar nominated actor in "The Lost City Of Z." This adaptation of David Grann's book tells the tale of English soldier-turned-explorer Colonel Percy Harrison Fawcett (Hunnam), whose obsessive belief that an ancient civilization resided in the Amazon led him on many death-defying expeditions. After financing eventually dried up, Fawcett self-funded one last adventure into the Amazon with his son from which neither returned. Pattinson will play Henry Costin, a British corporal who joins the journey. No matter what you feel about this casting switcheroo, we're still getting a new movie from Gray, which is fine by us.

Though the book it’s based on burned up the New York Times Best Seller list when it was released back in 2009, director James Gray has been finding it surprisingly hard to get traction on a film adaptation of David Grann’s The Lost City of Z. Benedict Cumberbatch signed on for the lead role of explorer Percy Fawcett earlier this fall, but not much other information about the status of the project has emerged since. Today, however, Screen Daily announced that Robert Pattinson has joined the cast of the film in a major role.
Pattinson’s involvement was unveiled during this week’s American Film Market, and Screen Daily revealed the casting in their first Afm-centric print issue of the year.

Last month when we chatted with director James Gray, he cautioned that the fate of his long developing "The Lost City Of Z" depended on how things panned out at this weeks American Film Market. He already put a good foot forward, landing Benedict Cumberbatch for a starring role in the film, and it hopefully this latest bit of casting can put it over the top. Screen Daily reveals in their print issue from the floor of Afm, that Robert Pattinson is also on board the movie, that Panorama Media is financing and selling rights for as well. Benedict Cumberbatch just can’t stay out of the news these days. The British thesp is heating up and with Tiff kicking off tomorrow, he’s going to be hotter than ever. It was only a few days ago that we heard rumors of his involvement with Star Wars: Episode VII, which was based on the fact that he departed Guillermo del Toro’s Crimson Peak. It turns out that the actor actually left del Toro’s project for another film though, James Gray’s The Lost City of Z.

Boston has proved to be a fertile breeding ground for crime films, and now one of the genre’s most frequent visitors is booking a trip to the city. Warner Bros. has set up White Devil for The Yards’ James Gray to direct.Despite a seemingly far-fetched storyline – white orphan raised by Chinese family rises to a high level of command within the Chinese mafia – Gray’s script will actually be based on a real-life case in Massachusetts that features drug trafficking in the city. There are no other details yet as it’s still early days for the project, but it certainly seems to be something he can handle. The writer-director is still attached to develop The Lost City Of Z at Paramount with Brad Pitt’s Plan B company, which focuses on Col. Thoughtful and erudite, there are few filmmakers as fascinating to listen to as they talk about film than James Gray. So whenever we get the chance to catch up with him, it's a treat, and we managed to spend some time with the helmer at the Marrakech International Film Festival where he was serving on the jury. We spoke at some length about his upcoming, immigrant period drama "Lowlife," (formerly "The Nightingale" -- read all about it here), but we also wondered about some of the movies he's got brewing and what may or may not be next. Perhaps one of the most ambitious projects linked to Gray in the past few years is "The Lost City of Z," is a seemingly uncharacteristic South America-set film. Based on the book by David Grann, the epic tells the story of English soldier-turned-explorer Colonel Percy Harrison Fawcett, whose obsession with the Amazon...

Brad Pitt has dropped out of the long-gestating film adaptation of David Grann's non-fiction book "The Lost City of Z" at Paramount Pictures reports Vulture.
Pitt was to play Colonel Percy Harrison Fawcett, a former decorated British soldier turned early 20th century explorer who, along with his son, disappeared in 1925 during an expedition to find an ancient lost city in the uncharted jungles of the Amazon.
James Gray adapted the screenplay and at last report was scheduled to direct. However Pitt allegedly dropped out after an impasse with Paramount over Gray's compensation for the film, which is why the news emerged yesterday that Pitt had begun negotiations for the mobster comedy "Cogan's Trade".

Brad Pitt has finally taken a decision to get rid of his graying overgrown beard. On Saturday, June 12, X17 spotted the 46-year-old actor no longer having his signature goatee while driving in Los Angeles with his lady Angelina Jolie. The couple was heading to the Sunset Marquis for a meeting.
Pitt had grown his beard since fall 2009. Although Pitt reportedly opted the new look to play British explorer Colonel Percy Harrison Fawcett in upcoming drama "Lost City of Z", the "Seven Years in Tibet" actor claimed, as quoted by Us Magazine, "It's boredom. No other reason than that."
His newly-trimmed beard aside, Brad Pitt has joined the Board of Directors for the U.S.A. Bid Committee to bring the FIFA World Cup to the U.S. in 2018 or 2022. Beside him, Spike Lee, Gavin Rossdale, Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, Drew Carey, Penn Badgley, Oscar De La Hoya, current U.S.A.

Enough's enough. What is the friggin' deal with Brad's chin warmer? Some say Angie's man is doing the whole the mountain-man look for his upcoming film The Lost City of Z, where he's set to play Col. Percy Harrison Fawcett, who went missing in the Amazon back in 1925. Uh, only problemo? The flick doesn't even have a script yet! Oh, and Fawcett had a handlebar mustache, not a dusty beard. So clearly this gangly thing on Brad's face is his choice. Is Pitt's look a rebellion from his clean-cut past, or an acceptance of Angelina's ideals (his scruffier style is reminiscent of Jolie's ex Billy Bob Thornton)? Or could it be Fat Syndrome? You know, when a...

Instead, perhaps Brad Pitt has been sporting his long, scraggly beard to get into character for a new movie role: that of British explorer Colonel Percy Harrison Fawcett, who disappeared in the Amazon in 1925. But there are a couple of modern-day mysteries surrounding the story, too. First, a Paramount source says the film, called The Lost City of Z, doesn't have a script yet and no date to start production has been set. In addition, Fawcett didn't have a beard, but a handlebar moustache. "There is no film-related explanation I can...
