Film ReviewOverall, as a pure Telugu movie, Gg is not stunning, not heart-wrenching and not thrilling either.Krishna SripadaBefore I go breathless with what could have been or should have been, let me get the disclaimer out. Gaddalakonda Ganesh is the Telugu remake of the Tamil film Jigarthanda, which doesn't cater to the sensibilities of a fan. If Jigarthanda is Ms Subbulakshmi rendering Suprabhatam, this movie is Beyonce belting out something the former's fans wouldn't really relate to. The focus is different, and it would be a disservice to let the spectre of Jigarthanda hang over what should otherwise be an objective review of this Telugu movie. Gaddalakonda Ganesh, henceforth referred to as Gg, is a risky movie with an attempt to make the protagonist Varun Tej look scary. So the makers of Gg gave him a crazy hairstyle, a bone-dry beard and a menacing scar to boot.. Varun Tej...

CinemaPart of the hit Bollywood ‘Race’ franchise, the flick is an action thriller directed by Remo D’Souza.Digital NativeDigital NativeThe trailer of the Salman Khan starrer Race 3 that was released recently has garnered the attention of film buffs in a big way. But Tollywood fans have a complaint against its makers. According to Prabhas’ fans, the trailer has scenes that seem to be lifted from the Baahubali star’s upcoming film Saaho. The teaser for Saaho was released last year along with Baahubali: The Conclusion and it had Prabhas wearing a gliding suit and jump off a skyscraper. The Race 3 trailer also shows Salman Khan wearing a similar gliding suit and this has set tongues wagging about the similarities between the Saaho teaser and the Race 3 trailer. Reports say that the similarities between these two films do not end there, as Race 3’s stunt sequences were shot in Abu Dhabi and the Saaho team is currently stationed in the same place to can the action block. Race 3, which is part of the hit Bollywood Race franchise, is an action thriller that is being directed by Remo D’Souza and produced by Ramesh S Taurani and Salman Khan under the banners Salman Khan Films and Tips Films. Judwaa 2
Starring Varun Dhawan, Jacqueline Fernandez, Tapsee Pannu, Anupam Kher
Directed by David Dhawan
In our country we revere the dead. And disrespect the urge to laugh and have fun. Judwaa reminds us how enjoyable frivolity in cinema can be if packaged and executed expertly.
When a 20-year-old film about identical twins caught in a rough hour traffic of endearing inanity is rebooted, we immediately start getting emotional about the old film which incidentally, was trashed on release. We even begin to treat Anu Malik’s pedestrian tunes in the original as classics.
There is news for all nostalgia addicts. Judwaa 2 is not only a more engaging ode to inanity than the original, Varun Dhawan even manages to outdistance Salman Khan’s considerable energy level in the original. Dhawan conveys a certain innocence in his body language that is the opposite of sexual candour.

Dishoom
Starring: John Abraham, Varun Dhawan, Jacqueline Fernandez, Akshaye Khanna, Virat Kohli (just kidding) and a dog named Bradman (not kidding)
Directed by Rohit Dhawan
Rating: *** ½
Everybody in Dishoom is shown to be in a tearing hurry. Some, like the flighty Miss Fernandez seem to be running to nowhere quite furiously. But everyone is determined to get some place.
Fast.
Dishoom is one of the most fast-paced Bollywood bromances in recent times. Bromance, it sure is. And a pretty cool one at that. With John Abraham (excellent as the strong silent sturdy he-man type) and Varun Dhawan (endearingly vulnerable clumsy but finally dependable) helming the hyperventilating hi-jinks, director Rohit Dhawan can’t go wrong.
He doesn’t.
Plus there is cricket which as we all know is religion in India. So what happens when Virat, fictionally altered to Viraj, is kidnapped by a mean money machine named Wagah (probably because...

Once upon a time, Bollywood thrived on an angry young man. That man had a suave persona, fiery eyes, a resounding baritone and incessant ringing box-office registers to cash. Since then everyone wanted to bake their cake and eat it too, there were similar inspired roles and characters and underworld became that genre writer’s favorite ‘u’ word. 2010 saw a high on drama, wafting of masala that would make you sneeze, homage to the gritty world of gangsters – Milan Luthria’s Once Upon a Time in Mumbaai. While was far from a good film by a mile, was in what the director’s camp hinges on – entertaining. By laws of Bollywood, the director decided to bank in on the success and release a sequel which hit the theatres this week – Once Upon A Time in Mumbai Dobaara (Ouatimd). 'Force' (2011)
Starring John Abraham, Genelia D'Souza, Vidyut Jamwal
A tense, fast-paced police action drama with a heaping dollop of romance, 'Force' does no such thing to the audience. The high emotional stakes and fine technical execution command attention—not to mention the lead, John Abraham, who doesn't need to do much to keep eyes glued on him.
'Force' has more visual treats than just beefcake—it's shot by exceptional cinematographer Ayananka Bose (who was behind the visually stirring 2010 film 'Kites'), and the action sequences are tight and exciting.
Abraham, in one of his biggest box-office successes as a headliner, plays Yash, an earnest John Wayne of few words and outrageously many muscles. He's a hardworking loner cop, minus any cliché, troubled backstory—granted—but he's so good he verges on cloying. Even when the sultry, sassy Maya (Genelia D'Souza) crosses his path,...

Tried and tested formulas can weaken any film. Regardless of star power, chart busting music or excellent performance. But with the right people on board, and an innovative way to tell a story, your average film can become almost epic. However, Force doesn’t fit into this category. Even while we have John Abraham, Genelia D’Souza and debutant Vidyut Jamwal stepping into the roles of Acp Yashvardhan, Maya and Vishnu, originally played by Surya Sivakumar, Jyothika and Jeevan in the Tamil smash hit Kaakha Kaakha, all is not well. Nishikanth Kamat is no doubt an amazing director and each actor in their own right is talented. However, when put together with Vipul Shah backing the film in production, the sparks that normally you would expect to fly fail to make attendance.

Chicago – The more Bollywood pictures I see, the more I understand the odd appeal of a film like Baz Luhrmann’s “Moulin Rouge,” which remains near the top of my Greatest Guilty Pleasures list. Why guilty? Because even I can understand why many people hate it. The picture is loud, chaotic, stupendously over the top, and staggeringly drunk on the sheer movieness of movies. That may be why I love it.
“Rouge” might as well have been made in Bollywood, considering how effortlessly it blended genres, fusing operatic melodrama and screwball farce with shamelessly indulgent spectacle. As for its characters, they followed a formula as old as the hills. There’s the scrappy, starry-eyed protagonist trying to make a living for himself. There’s his revered object of desire who falls in love with him at first or second glance. And then there’s the girl’s villainous suitor, whose...

'Kites' (2010)
Starring Hrithik Roshan, Barbara Mori
Kites was specifically made to appeal to Western sensibilities—it's not the first Bollywood film to try to crossover, but it is the first to succeed at it, and it does so while remaining true to the essence of Hindi cinema. 'Kites' looks like an American film, but it feels like an Indian one.
It's not the best Bollywood movie—not by a long shot—but by stripping itself of the typical trappings of Hindi films (and making itself stylistically familiar to Westerners), it reveals the heart of Bollywood—a beating, bleeding operatic heart. Hindi cinema is ultimately not about language or culture or musical numbers; it's about exalted melodrama that draws you in despite yourself and affects you with life's corniness and agony.

The bigger the budget... the bigger the names... the bigger the hype, hoopla and razzmatazz... the bigger the expectations from the film. Kites has some of the biggest names in the business - Rakesh Roshan, Anurag Basu and Hrithik Roshan, to name a few - and the film, therefore, carries this gargantuan responsibility on its shoulders. It has to soar higher than the hits delivered by this trio. Anything less will just not do!
The million dollar question is, does Kites fly high? Let me hit the nail on the head: The film has some terrific moments and of course, Hrithik Roshan's star power to cast a spell, but it has plenty of low moments. In fact, Kites could've been a cult film, but its writing relies too heavily on clichés and formulaic stuff and that, frankly, throws a spanner.

Finally, we know why Kites is called Kites! Producer Rakesh Roshan & director Anurag Basu, makers of Kites (www.kites-thefilm.com), one of the most eagerly awaited romantic films of this summer disclose the inspiration behind their film.s title. The title and story of Kites is the brainchild of Rakesh Roshan, the man behind some of Bollywood.s most creative blockbusters..The idea for Kites came to me when I was gazing at the sky and saw two kites flying,. notes Rakesh Roshan. .It looked very romantic. It was very intriguing--the way they came close, played, almost embraced each other and then drew apart. Unaware that someone else was pulling the strings and could cut them loose. I sat down and penned a story around this idea...Kites is the metaphor of the film. Kites fly against the wind and not with it, stronger the wind blows, higher the kites fly,...
