Loneliness has always had a place in pop music, from “Are you lonesome tonight?” to “My loneliness is killing me.” What else are songs, if not a way for artists to reach out across the vast stretches of space and time that separate them from their listeners? A great song can make you feel less alone in the world, or reflect your solitude back in a new form. Right now, with much of the world staying far away from their friends and loved ones in the name of public health,...

UK's seminal trip Hop band, Massive Attack, have released a disturbing new video for their single "Voodoo in My Blood" where actress Rosamund Pike (Gone Girl, Wrath of the Titans) gets assaulted by a floating orb - so, Phantasmed basically.
The song features Young Fathers, Azekel, Roots Manuva, Tricky and 3D and was written and Produced by Robert Del Naja and Euan Dickinson.
When asked about her part in the video Pike said, "Am I involved? ... Someone said the girl in the video looks like me. I have been to the Joe Strummer subway. I did have a strange encounter there once,". She is the second Oscar-nominated star to appear in a Ritual Spirit video: Winter's Bone's John Hawkes previously appeared in the video for the Tricky-featuring "Take It There."

Ellie Goulding, Gabrielle Aplin and Roots Manuva have created three unique tracks for the final series of Skins.
Goulding's track 'You, My Everything' will feature in Skins Fire - which sees Kaya Scodelario reprise the role of Effy Stonem.
> Skins: Who is the best character of all time? - vote
Aplin's 'Start Again' will be heard in Cassie's (Hannah Murray) story Skins Pure, while Roots Manuva's 'Stole Youth' will debut in the final film Skins Rise, starring Jack O'Connell as Cook.
Scodelario recently told Digital Spy that she thinks now is the right time for Skins to come to an end.
"I'd like it to be the end," said the 21-year-old. "Only because... Skins has been such a great thing for our generation - I don't want it to become a parody of itself."
Skins Fire begins tonight at 10pm on E4.

This is my list of my favourite Hip Hop albums of 2011. It’s neither the list of the albums that sold the best nor the list of the most anticipated albums of 2011. Just the ones that this 30 something Hip Hop fan enjoyed the most, the ones that I listened to the most, the ones that made me smile and in some rare cases even dance. Although some may call 2011 a disappointing year for Hip Hop I would actually say it was a positive year. There was plenty of good music out there you just had to look for it and that’s always been the case with most genres. A number of new artists came through with good albums and a number of older artists came back to the forefront with strong albums.
10. Phonte – Charity Starts At Home
I missed Little Brother this year so this album from Phonte was much needed and much appreciated.

From Feist, Björk and Laura Marling, to Noel Gallagher, Roots Manuva and Tom Waits – plus a promising debut by one David Lynch, director – our writers run you through the most anticipated releases of the season
BJöRK: Biophilia
(One Little Indian)
Usually with each new Björk album comes the often wishful mutterings of it finally representing her "return to pop", as if she's about to recreate Debut, move back to London and start dating Goldie again. Needless to say, Biophilia – an album prefaced by an elaborate iPad app and thematically encompassing the entire universe – isn't loaded with singles. Björk chooses instead to flit between the beautiful ("Cosmogony"), the downright creepy ("Hollow") and, in "Mutual Core", the world's first song about tectonic plates set to a ravey mesh of bleeps and whooshes. Lyrically, it finds Björk musing on both the universal and the personal in a way she's only hinted at before,...

With the recent release of The Social Network & Catfish on DVD, I thought it would make a good time to post this show again. Enjoy!
It seems like all anyone can talk about is a little movie called The Social Network, a new film from director David Fincher and screenwriter Aaron Sorkin about the origins of internet stronghold Facebook, particularly through the prism of its progenitor, Mark Zuckerberg. Many have hailed it as one of the year’s best films, if not its best outright. We’ll set the hype aside and figure out if Fincher and Sorkin have indeed crafted a great film, as well as talking about another Facebook-themed flick, Catfish – and yes, that review will include some spoilers, so anyone wanting to stay virgin-white before seeing it will want to steer clear.

A new short film by Bivas Ambasada, featuring the rapper Luc Skyz, refuses to glorify street violence. Ben Child meets its stars
The British film industry has always seemed to trail a little behind Hollywood when it comes to depicting life at the sharp end. They have Boyz in the Hood, while we have Kidulthood. America gets Quentin Tarantino; Britain has Nick Love.
And yet for all its swagger, much of Hollywood "street" cinema undoubtedly glorifies violence rather than condemning it. Film-makers such as Andrea Arnold, whose Fish Tank spotlighted the raw existence of a teenager on a tough Essex council estate last year, create arresting cinema without resorting to shallow machismo, and a new short by British film-maker Bivas Ambasada offers a similar level of authenticity matched with a refusal to romanticise the rage of youth.
His'story is, nevertheless, a very different type of beast. Made with and featuring UK rapper Luc Skyz,...

London's Mr. Scruff is one of the fizziest artists on the Ninja Tune roster, which is saying something given the label's jokey tendencies. (See the title of this album, Scruff's fourth, for evidence.) But Scruff has hardier traits as well; he fuses loosey-goosey jazz-funk keyboard patterns and crisp, basic breakbeats and dance patterns to give even his straightest stuff a hint of wobble. He also uses vocalists well: Brit soulstress Alice Russell on "Music Takes Me Up," smoky-voiced Andreya Triana on "Hold On," and UK Mc Roots Manuva on "Nice Up The Function" all make their presence ...
