Despite its title, “I Miss U” is actually a Thai horror film, albeit one with a decidedly romantic and wistful bent, director Monthon Arayangkoon, combining the love story of his 2010 “Big Boy” with the spooky shenanigans of his earlier shockers “The House” and “The Victim”. The urban legend inspired film is headlined by a trio of ghost veterans, actor Jesdaporn Pholdee (“The Eye 2”), Apinya Sakuljaroensuk (“4 Bia”) and Natthaweeranuch Thongmee (“Shutter”), and proved highly popular at the box office, emerging as the country’s top grossing genre hit of 2012 to date. The film follows a fairly familiar sounding plot, with Apinya Sakuljaroensuk as Bee, a trainee doctor who starts working at a new hospital and soon catches the eye of the handsome and much sought after Dr Thana (Jesdaporn Pholdee). Unfortunately, despite his attraction to her, the poor man is a tormented soul, still apparently heart-broken after the death of...

Director: Monthon Arayangkoon. Review: Adam Wing. It’s been a long time coming, but Monthon Arayangkoon’s supernatural crime drama has picked up a solid fan base since its original release back in 2006. Arriving on UK shores this month courtesy of Mvm Entertainment, The Victim tells the tale of Ting, a young actress who takes a job re-enacting crime scenes with the local police force. It might read like a hokey premise on paper, but this kind of thing actually happens in Thailand, where crime scenes are re-enacted and pictures are published in national newspapers, bringing closed cases to the attention of the public. It’s not long before things take a turn for the supernatural, with Ting largely unaware of events taking place around her. After completing her first job Ting (Pitchanart Sakakorn) nestles down to pray, unaware of the ghostly presence towering over her – the headless, towering presence...

“The House” is a Thai horror directed by Monthon Arayangkoon, who also helmed supernatural thriller “The Victim” and the giant bird monster kaiju “Garuda”. Apparently based on real life cases involving the murders of women, the film is a mishmash of various modern Asian and Western horror themes and motifs, combining a haunted house, vengeful ghosts and possession with murders, mad doctors and more. Originally released back in 2007, the film is now available on region 2 DVD via Mvm. The film follows actress Intira Jaroenpura (“The Legend of Naresuan”) as Shalinee, a television reporter looking from a change from the usual prostitution and child abuse stories, who decides to investigate the case of Dr. Wasson (Vorapoj Nimvijit), a man said to have murdered his missing wife. When she spots a mysterious figure during a visit to Wasson’s house, she becomes convinced that something sinister is afoot, and uncovers two other...
