Spoiler Alert: This post contains spoilers from “Kids See Ghosts,” the May 20 episode of The CW’s “All American.”
Billy Baker lives on… ish. Taye Diggs’ character, who died in a bus accident midway through Season 5 of the drama, returned to “All American” during the May 20 episode.
At the beginning of the Season 6 episode, Olivia (Samantha Logan) struggled to finish her book about Billy, her late father, as Jordan (Michael Evans Behling) found himself at a crossroads about his possible future in the NFL. Meanwhile, Spencer (Daniel Ezra) realized he had much more going for himself than football when a young high school player asked for his help. Recognizing how much they needed their father — or father figure, in Spencer’s case — Laura (Monet Mazur) decided to give her kids letters that Billy had written for them to open when they graduated college. Simone Hicks plans to “dominate this season” when All American: Homecoming returns — but fresh footage from the upcoming episodes has us thinking the season might dominate her.
In the exclusive Season 3 trailer embedded above, Simone’s renewed determination on the tennis court quickly gives way to a potential injury (“Something’s off with my swing,” she worries aloud) and a seemingly formidable opponent from another university. Plus, Simone’s personal life seems similarly complicated: Although we briefly see her in bed with (presumably) one of her two suitors from last season’s cliffhanger, the conversation she’s having via voiceover — “I did what you asked.

Billy Baker is back — somehow.
Taye Diggs will guest star in the May 20 of the CW’s “All American,” on which he played Billy Baker until the character died in Season 5. It it not yet known how exactly Billy will be incorporated into the episode, which will mark the eighth of the season.
Season 6 of the sports drama, which premiered on April 1 and has released six episodes so far, has followed the remaining “All American” characters as they reel from losing Billy. His son Jordan (Michael Evans Behling) struggles with the pressure of their new NFL draft eligibility while their sister Olivia (Samantha Logan) returns from London to L.A. with hopes to honor Billy’s legacy and their mother Laura (Monét Mazur) finds herself in a new stage of life both personally and as a lawyer.
“All American” is produced by Warner Bros. Television and CBS Studios in association with Berlanti Productions.

When prolific director DeMane Davis stepped in to direct the seventh episode of the Max series “The Girls on the Bus,” she was immediately given a challenge.
“The show reminds me of old movies from the 1970s that I loved growing up. It’s a very funny show and so fast-paced that it just crackles,” Davis tells Gold Derby in an exclusive video interview. “But I was told my episode was the most dramatic of all the episodes that had come before. People were like, ‘Sorry it’s not as funny.’ And I was like, ‘No, that’s okay. I can do that.’ Because I love being in that vein. And so what I did is, in the funny moments, I leaned into them a little bit more than I would normally – just to kind of give relief and to help the ride of the story. But I was honored...

Exclusive: This is a rare occurrence in the current strike-impacted broadcast season — a scripted series getting an order for additional episodes. According to sources, the CW’s flagship drama All American is having its current sixth season extended from 13 episode to 15 episodes.
All American’s first five seasons have ranged between 16-20 episodes. With the series picking up just over a year after the end of Season 5, there is a lot of unpack, and the extra episodes would allow to better flesh out the story and build toward a satisfying conclusion.
It also would allow fans to stay in the current world longer as All American‘s characters are preparing for major life changes, with series protagonist Spencer James (Daniel Ezra) and potentially Jordan Baker (Michael Evans Behling) headed to the NFL draft.

Since The CW revamped its schedule, the football drama All American remains one of the last originals.
Since its spinoff, All American: Homecoming, was also renewed and is scheduled to air sometime in the summer of 2024, it’s not overall surprising they want to capitalize on both.
It’s not uncommon for a TV to expand its universe into spinoffs. Most often, procedural-type franchises such as CSI, Law & Order, and the One Chicago Universe have done it.
However, we’ve seen teen shows do it successfully, including The Vampire Diaries universe on The CW and The Fosters transitioning into Good Trouble on Freeform.
All American and All American: Homecoming are succeeding the way they are. Do we need additional spinoffs?
What is All American About?
All American was inspired by the life of professional football player Spencer Paysinger. Daniel Ezra portrays the fictional lead role of Spencer James.

Recently, showrunner Nkechi Okoro Carroll revealed new details about the upcoming third season, including a time jump that is similar to that of All American‘s between seasons five and six.
“The actors have taken the new direction we’ve taken the show in and they’ve just raised it to another level,” she said. “I am so excited for people to see this season of Homecoming and how our characters have also grown and matured and how they’re now handling situations differently.”

[This story contains spoilers from the season six premiere of All American, “Things Done Changed.”]
After nearly a yearlong gap since its season five finale, All American made its season six premiere on The CW on Monday night.
The sports drama that is centered around football player Spencer James (Daniel Ezra) — which has followed the star wide receiver and his friends from his days at Crenshaw High up through his freshman year at the fictitious Golden Angeles University last season — will mark 100 episodes on May 27. It’s a milestone Ezra says came as a shock to him, like many others in the series.
“When I was cast, that was a surprise. When the pilot got picked up, that was a surprise. I didn’t expect any of it,” he tells The Hollywood Reporter. “It took me two seasons to give up my apartment in London. I just thought, ‘They’re going to send me back.’”

Spoiler Alert! This post contains details from the Season 6 premiere of The CW’s All American.
Season 6 of All American debuted Monday with an episode titled, “Things Done Changed.”
And change, they have. The season picks up just over a year after the events of Season 5, finding many of the characters in a completely different stage of life.
Spencer and Jordan are entering their junior year of college on the heels of a college bowl ban, meaning they’re finally eligible to declare for the NFL draft and also Gau is gunning for a championship run.
Olivia has just returned from London, and she’s not certain that Los Angeles feels like home to her anymore. Layla is planning her wedding while also dealing with some residual trauma from Patience’s stabbing. Then there’s Coop, who is still pursuing pre-law while also trying to help Patience get justice.

NBC's procedural show Found stars Shanola Hampton, a series producer, a kick-butt public relations specialist turned vigilantly, Gabi Mosely. Gabi and her team have made it their mission to help the missing people who don't attract the media's attention.
The team mainly focuses on people of color and others who face bias for their ethnicity, sexual orientation, and lifestyle choices, among other things that tend to lead them to slip through the cracks of the Washington, D.C., police department.
Why is Gabi so passionate about her work? Because she is a kidnapping survivor herself and her dedicated team of people who have also been impacted by missing persons' cases.
While we only get bits and pieces of everyone's stories, throughout Found Season 1, it is revealed through flashbacks why Gabi stops at nothing to bring home the kidnapping victims of the families who hire her.

Channing Dungey first joined Warner Bros. TV Group as chairman in late 2020 — right in the middle of the Covid-19 pandemic, which made for an interesting first year on the job. Then came the Warner Media-Discovery merger in 2022, and the restructuring that came with it. In 2023, the Hollywood strikes disrupted the business again.
“It’s been a lot of tumult since I’ve been in the role,” Dungey recently reflected to Variety. “I’m hoping — and I’m knocking wood as I say this — that as we round the corner into 2024, we’re behind some of those bigger challenges. I’m sure there will be something new on the horizon, but I’m hopeful that 2024 marks a return to business as usual.”
The entertainment industry remains in flux, of course, with more disruption anticipated this year. But in her own corner of the biz, Dungey said she feels some truly positive momentum.

Shanola Hampton doesn’t think audiences are really prepared for what’s about to go down in the Found season finale.
The NBC series wraps its first season on Tuesday with an episode that the star told Deadline left her “in awe.”
After the penultimate episode, when Hampton’s Gabi Moseley finally revealed to her M&a colleague Dhan [Karan Oberoi] that she’d not only been been holding her kidnapper Sir [Mark-Paul Gosselaar] captive in her basement but using him to help solve the firm’s missing persons cases, her carefully kept secret seems like it’s close to unraveling. According to Hampton, the final episode will feature a moment between Gabi and the rest of the M&a crew that is so raw, she had a visceral reaction to filming the scene.
“By the end of it, Gabi ends up in the fetal position on the ground,” she said.

Variety’s annual Showrunners Dinner presented by A+E Studios on Thursday night gathered writers recognized on the publication’s annual TV Producers Impact List, as well as several of this year’s Emmy nominees. In addition, megaproducer Chuck Lorre was honored with Variety’s first Norman Lear Award.
Held at Merois, on the rooftop of the Pendry West Hollywood, the Variety Showrunners Dinner included a very funny acceptance speech by Lorre, who pointed out some of the similarities — but more humorously, the differences — between the two icons.
“I think everyone here understands the enormity and significance of Norman Lear’s body of work,” Lorre began. “So in accepting this award, I don’t think it’s false modesty to take a moment and focus on the very large differences between his career and my own. For starters, Norman Lear began his career writing for Hollywood legends like Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis.

The intent of THR‘s annual list of the 50 Most Powerful Showrunners is to provide an accurate state of the TV union — a rundown of the writer-producers selling in an increasingly fraught media climate, making culturally relevant and awards-friendly shows and serving the masses at a time when consensus entertainment has all but vanished. It’s also a great opportunity to pick some brains.
Those showrunners who made the 2023 list were polled on a variety of subjects. If Suits can become a streaming hit years after ending, what other shows deserve a similar fate? What IP are they dying to get their hands on? What’s already a pressing issue for the next WGA contract negotiation with the studios? And if they found themselves with a burner social media account, what would they do with it?
Here are some of the best answers to those and more questions.
