Mrc director Gail Kovatseff at the 2018 Screenmakers Conference.
Launching its 2019 program today, Adelaide’s Media Resource Centre (Mrc) announced it will be running a partnership initiative with Screentime to give practitioners opportunity to develop factual TV ideas across all unscripted genres.
Up to six teams will receive hands-on mentoring from the production company’s executives over a period of four months next year, culminating in market ready project pitches for the Screenmakers Conference in July. Screentime launched a Adelaide office earlier this year, headed by Colin Thrupp, kicking off with the production of Rbt. Previously the company has also produced Pine Gap, Wolf Creek and Anzac Girls in Sa. Further information about the initiative will be released soon on the Mrc website.

Forty years ago this week, Dallas premiered on CBS – and changed TV history forever. At a time when network television was staid and dull, this Lone Star Peyton Place came on as a totally shameless melodrama full of sex, money, bad blood, family feuds, cowboy hats and shoulder pads – the first, best and most splendidly ridiculous of the prime-time soaps. It spun the saga of the corrupt Ewing family and their Texas oil empire, as they wheeled and dealed through bedrooms and boardrooms, running from 1978 to 1991. And what a cast...

Channel Ten morning show The Circle is to be dropped from schedules. The Logie Award-winning programme will air for the last time on Friday (August 3). "The decision to cease production of The Circle is unfortunate and was not taken lightly, but tight fiscal control and cost discipline are a core part of our strategy," Ten CEO James Warburton confirmed in a statement. The network's head of news and current affairs Anthony Flannery also thanked staff including the show's executive producer Pam Barnes for their "efforts and (more)...

Ten has pulled the plug on The Circle and cut Breakfast by half an hour. The gap left by The Circle will be mainly filled with Us content.
The Circle will end on Friday. Ten boss James Warburton said the decision was for financial reasons.
Breakfast launched in February but has struggled to find an audience against the much longer established Sunrise on Seven and Nine’s Today. It will now run from 6am to 8.30am rather than to 9am. Children’s show Wurrawhy will then air at 8.30am.
Axed: Gorgi Coghlan and Stynes
The Circle launched in February 2010. Original co-host Chrissie Swan departed late last year and the show was weakened after host Yumi Stynes faced a backlash in response to comments she made about war hero Ben Roberts-Smith. The Cricle runs behind Seven’s The Morning Show and Nine’s Mornings.

The Men 1) Dean Winchester (Jensen Ackles)
Sorry Sam, but in a showdown of who is the hottest Winchester brother, your older sibling wins hands down every time. He is of course the formidable and fearless hunter, Dean Winchester: he endured forty years in hell to save his brother, he’s probably one of the only humans feared (and lusted) by even the most powerful of the supernatural creatures, and he...

Ten's new all-girl chat show is quietly building a following among male viewers. The Circle may be female-skewed but there are blokes who are pretty fond of the show too.
Producer Pam Barnes says she works hard to ensure the Ten chat show has enough content to entertain men as well as women, and it's resonating through the feedback the show receives.
"We try and engage with them in terms of our topics. We get a lot of emails from men who are watching. There's a lot of stay-at-home dads. There's a lot of shift workers and there's a lot of Uni students. Huge amount of Uni students. Get a bit of everything," she says.

I want to love this episode. I really do. And after a good night's sleep, I might just wake up in the morning and go, "Hey! Kripke's still got it!" But, dear readers, at this moment, I am at an impasse. On one hand: an afterlife that isn't sucky and cliché! Ash! Pam Barnes! Mary making Dean sandwiches and pie! Moments of brotherly bonding that don't include sitting by the side of the road crying into a beer! An angel who isn't a complete douche! Pacing and character development and arc movement oh my! And all of this written by Dabb and Loflin! (I know!) On the other hand, I turned off the television with the distinct feeling that I'd been emotionally manipulated by a lovely collection of smoke and mirrors to make me think that I'd just witnessed a great hour of television when, in fact, the episode had...
