Exclusive: Fresh from reflecting on his Real Madrid career in his Netflix series, David Beckham is now preparing an ESPN documentary about the Galácticos.
Beckham’s Studio 99 has teamed up with Fulwell 73 to develop the project, which has not yet officially been greenlit by ESPN but is gearing up for production.
Spotlighting one of sport’s most iconic teams, the documentary has echoes of ESPN series The Last Dance, which won acclaim for its depiction of Michael Jordan’s final season with the Chicago Bulls.
The so-called Galácticos were assembled by Real Madrid president Florentino Pérez, who had a mission to sign superstar footballers from the best leagues in the world.
Real Madrid broke the world transfer record five times by signing the likes of Luis Figo, Zinedine Zidane, Cristiano Ronaldo, and Gareth Bale across two Galácticos eras.

New Delhi, Dec 30 (Ians) Legendary attacking midfielder Robert Pires regards fellow Frenchman, Thierry Henry as one of the best forwards the world has ever seen, especially during Arsenal’s Invincible season of 2003/04.
“Thierry is one of the best strikers for me. And this moment [2003-04] he was maybe number two just behind Ronaldo, the Brazilian. Thierry was an amazing, amazing player,” said Pires on the Home of Heroes show on Sports 18 and JioCinema.
Pires also believes legendary football manager Arsene Wenger is one of the finest managers in the world. “Oh, for me, Arsene is one of the best managers. I know him for a long, long time because he’s French. I’m French. I used to play for Marseille. He was in Monaco and I remember because he called me six months before I joined Arsenal and for me. Yeah, it was a great call from Arsene, from Arsenal.

The day that Faustino Asprilla single-handedly destroyed Barcelona lives long in the memory of Newcastle United fans. The match turned the bendy-legged Columbian into a cult hero despite him only scoring two goals in 10 games throughout the rest of the 1997-98 season.
Asprilla who did score an impressive nine goals in eleven European matches was sold back to Parma at the end of the season for £6 million but his performance on Wednesday, September 17th, 1997, will never be forgotten. Barcelona – who were managed by Louis van Gaal and won the La Liga, Copa del Rey and Super Cup titles that season – couldn’t handle ‘Tino’s’ sublime skills and his 22-minute hat-trick was the perfect reward for an exceptional night at St James’ Park.
Asprilla scored after 26, 30 and 48 minutes. The first was a penalty he won himself, the others headers from excellent crosses by a rejuvenated Keith Gillespie.

Finally, the football world has thrown up some competition to run against the mighty rule of Sepp Blatter.
We have Michael van Praag, Prince Ali of Jordan, and most intriguingly, Luis Figo, battling it out with the current leader over who will steer the football world into a new era.
Figo is as slick now as he was gracing the Nou Camp, Bernabeu and San Siro. He’s got the late 20’s audience interested.
They’re the breed of football fan who grew up watching him and Rivaldo tear La Liga to pieces, before his infamous switch to Real Madrid to partner up with the original Ronaldo, Raul and Zinedine Zidane.
During his 20 year career, Figo made 578 league appearances across four clubs (Sporting, Barcelona, Real Madrid, Inter) and tallied up 93 goals, with an extra 27 goals coming in his 133 Champions League games.
And that’s not even mentioning assists.

When David Beckham arrived at the Bernabeu in the summer of 2003 Zinedine Zidane, one of the many stars in that famous Madrid ‘Galacticos’ team, said, “Why put another layer of gold paint on the Bentley when you are losing the entire engine?”
The iconic Frenchman was referring to the sale of Claude Makelele to Chelsea. In a team boasting the attacking talents of Zidane, Luis Figo and Ronaldo, many were guilty of overlooking the importance of Makelele. Many of the Madrid attacks were started by the Zaire-born midfielder, but his most important role was to act as the first line of defence and anchor the side. His pivotal role freed up the trio of Zidane, Figo and Ronaldo to attack at will without compromising the defence and acted as a great neutraliser of counter-attacks.
Claudio Ranieri made him one of his first purchases upon the arrival of Roman Abramovich’s billions.

In true Cristiano Ronaldo fashion he arrived at the party late with a double against the Dutch. He showed off his fancy footwoork by cutting some mad shapes against the Czechs. The rather bloated Champions League draw that every year seems to take about three times longer than absolutely necessary has finally finished in Monaco and Manchester City fans, in their first participation in the competition, must have been sweating that they nearly ended up in what would have been a group of death alongside giants of Europe Barcelona and AC Milan.
In the end they dodged that bullet (and Barcelona/AC Milan certainly did too) as the obscure team Bate Borisov (bet you don’t know what league they play in without looking it up) were handed that unlucky card along with Viktoria Plzen (likewise).
The blue half of Manchester instead drew out German side Bayern Munich, Spanish qualifiers Villareal and Italian side Napoli (who finished 3rd in Serie A) and despite a few tricky games, I would suggest they probably fancy their chances of not only qualifying but also winning the group outright.

hollywoodnews.com: On the occasion of the Sihh watch show in Geneva, Iwc Schaffhausen celebrated its new Portofino watch collection with a glamorous event attended by 900 guests and well-known Friends of the Brand. Cate Blanchett and Kevin Spacey enjoyed “A night in Portofino” in the same carefree style as Elle Macpherson, Jean Reno, Matthew Fox and Marc Forster. Other friends are Boris Becker, Luis Figo and Zinedine Zidane as well as Tim Jefferies and Ronan Keating. Further highlights of the evening included the world premiere of a photo exhibition featuring these friends and other stars shot by celebrated photographer Peter Lindbergh, a “making-of” film of the shoot and an impressive performance by Zurich Opera House, with a 60-strong orchestra and tenor Neil Shicoff.
For 900 guests from all over the world, “A night in Portofino” was an unforgettable event that captured the irresistible style of the 1950s and 60s. Stepping on...

If somebody told me Woody Harrelson would be in the city of Manchester, England playing soccer with Mike Myers, Michael Sheen and footballing legends Luis Figo and Zinadine Zidane, I’d have said you’ve been eating too much cheese before bedtime or you’re a complete mentalist. As unlikely as such events do seem, they did occur tonight. Pop star Robbie Williams has run Soccer Aid for the past six years now, bringing together celebrities and football stars past and present to raise money for Unicef.
This year’s game took place in a packed Old Trafford with an England team filled with the likes of Damien Lewis and Dominic Cooper versus the Rest of the World. Captain Michael Sheen took his role very seriously and kept describing the whole event as the best experience of his life. See? Something are better than acting.
