Former President Donald Trump was criticized for lauding Hannibal Lecter, the fictional serial killer from the 1991 film The Silence of the Lambs while claiming that migrants are being released from “insane asylums” into the U.S. at a weekend rally.
During a speech he made at his New Jersey campaign rally on May 11, Trump claimed that “the mental institution population is down because they’re taking people from insane asylums [in foreign countries] and from mental institutions” and sending them to the U.S.
“You know what the difference is, right,” he asked the crowd. “An insane asylum is a mental institution on steroids.”
“Silence of the Lamb – has anyone ever seen The Silence of the Lambs – the late, great Hannibal Lecter,” Trump added. “He’s a wonderful man. Remember the last scene?”
“‘Excuse me, I’m about to have a friend for dinner,’ as this poor doctor walked by,” the former president said while quoting what Lecter,...

The set of “Morning Joe” spent a second day analyzing the fallout from allegations of sexual misconduct by Alabama Gop Senate candidate Roy Moore. On hand was show regular and former Republican National Committee chairman Michael Steele. Steele said that Moore was a grave danger to the party brand and made his point with a blunt metaphor. “Our Republican party needs to take a step away from this and make it very clear that this is not the kind of candidate nor the kind the person that we would project to the country as a leader,” said Steele. “And if it.

During a discussion over the legality of the Obama administration sidestepping a law mandating congressional notification of a prisoner swap, Bloomberg columnist Al Hunt told former Rnc Chair Michael Steele on Morning Joe Tuesday morning that if Bergdahl "were a great hero," rather than a possible deserter, the right would be far less concerned with the particulars of the law.

Won’t someone save cable news? It’s not just that ratings are down across the board for the Big Three 24-hour networks — although 2013 was unquestionably a bad year for everyone. Far more damaging, I think, is the fact that cable news as an aesthetic — as a compelling method for exploring the important topics of our modern era — has entered what feels like a late-decadent period. The typical news anchor on CNN or MSNBC or Fox News floats across a set built out of touchscreen walls and occasional chat-friendly desks: It’s like all of cable news takes place in...

After a decade and a half of continuous adulation and an awards haul that would nearly put Walt Disney to shame (Jon Stewart should now have all his Emmys melded into a pointy throne), it seems somewhat repetitive to go into detail praising The Daily Show’s groundbreaking wit, insight, and irreverence. Yes, The Daily Show is great. Also, Kathy Griffin has had a bit of work done, and Lady Gaga wears silly clothes sometimes. We got it. (Maybe Lady Gaga could wear the Jon Stewart Emmy throne as a fascinator. Ideas!)
Still, The Daily Show remains the funniest, most entertaining show to grace our televisions four nights a week, upwards of several weeks a year. For as much as Jon Stewart deservedly receives the credit for this, much also hinges on the talent of his team of correspondents. Whether they are off doing field pieces interviewing the country’s...

The folks of Morning Joe had another round of Gop, Please Stop Talking About Rape on Thursday morning, brought to you courtesy of Republican congressman Trent Franks who — in arguing for a bill that would ban abortions after 20 weeks — said, "the incidence of rape resulting in pregnancy are very low." At this rate, Joe Scarborough and Michael Steele lamented, how will we see a Republican president any time soon?...

Morning Joe followed up on Proposition 8's day in the Supreme Court this morning, discussing the oral arguments and debating the court's approach. While the public opinion on the issue of gay marriage has clearly shifted, the panel agreed, the Supreme Court seemed hesitant to even tackle it. For some of the justices, Michael Steele asserted, this is not about being on the right or wrong side of history — it's simply about the Constitution.

After working as chief political strategist for President Barack Obama's 2008 and 2012 presidential elections, David Axelrod has found a new gig. NBC News has hired Axelrod to act as a full-time senior political analyst, the news organization has announced.
According to NBC News' announcement, Axelrod will appear on both NBC's broadcast network and MSNBC. This won't be a major change of pace for Axelrod. He got his start as a reporter working for the Chicago Tribune for eight years before switching over to politics in 1984. He also has frequently appeared on MSNBC's "Morning Joe" program.
Axelrod will be in good company at NBC and MSNBC. Also working there are former White House press secretary Robert Gibbs, Senator John McCain's 2008 senior campaign strategist and advisor Steve Schmidt, former chairman of the Republican National Committee Michael Steele and former Pennsylvania governor Ed Rendell.

A segment on MSNBC’s Hardball with Chris Matthews became heated on Tuesday amid a series of tense exchanges between the host and former Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Steele. When Matthews declared the Republican Party in Congress was trying to “destabilize” the federal government in the same way that the CIA destabilized adversarial foreign governments in the Cold War, Steele laughed in his face.

Last week's Republican National Convention provided more than enough material for our favorite late night talk show hosts. After all, Clint Eastwood's chair speech alone would have done the trick.
David Letterman focused on the ever-baffling "war on women" that keeps going throughout the presidential race, while Stephen Colbert took on Ann Romney and Chris Chrstie's contradictory speeches. Conan's political correspondent Deon Cole probably had the most exciting week afte he was thrown out of the convention on the first day for trying out some new material on the official podium (the Secret Service wasn't exactly down with that).
But Jon Stewart stole the show this week, first with his interview with former Rnc chairman Michael Steele, then with his thorough takedown of the Eastwood/Chair event aptly titled, "Fistful of Awesome." Watch all of the week's funniest political jokes in the video above!

It’s been a while since we last heard from deposed, lovable Republican National Committee chairman Michael Steele. In January, he lost a long-shot reelection bid to current R.N.C. head Reince Priebus and has been mostly absent from headlines since. He’s popped up now and again—on The Daily Show, and on The Root, where he’s now a contributing columnist—but today’s appearance is by far the best. “It’s an honor to contribute and engage in the dialogue on MSNBC,” Steele said earlier this morning, announcing his new role as “telegenic conservative” on the left-leaning cable news network. “I look forward to engaging a diverse audience to share insights and analysis about the people, issues, and events shaping America’s future. I’m sure our discussions will be both informative and a bit spirited!”...

Former Gop chairman Michael Steele and MSNBC talker Ed Schultz got into quite a heated debate over Republican congressmen Paul Ryan's plan to turn Medicare into a voucher system on 'Real Time With Bill Maher' (Friday, 10Pm Et on HBO).
As the two loudly articulated their points, one suspected that ABC political director Amy Walter, who was seated between the men, was getting sprayed with spittle.
After a while, Maher indicated Steele and Schultz needed to tone it down, and the discussion briefly moved on to the 150th anniversary of the beginning of the Civil War.

Michael Steele's semi-regular visits to The Rachel Maddow show are becoming must-see cable news TV, if only because of how much obvious fun the pair have when they debate each other. This week, Steele and Rachel Maddow revisited the health care debate, searching for a way to "rejigger" the system in a way that both sides could agree on. Steele's opposition to overhauling the entire system proved difficult for Maddow to negotiate with.

Since the beginning of the standoff in Wisconsin, Republicans and conservatives have predictably cast the "Wisconsin 14" as "cowardly" shirkers who "aren't doing their jobs," or have "retreated." This is to be expected, but what's really been hard to watch has been Democrats sitting silently by, or even going along with them. That's why it was so great to see Rachel Maddow destroy this line of reasoning on Tuesday night's The Rachel Maddow Show, when her "new best friend" Michael Steele trotted it out like a labradoodle at Westminster.

This morning I got to take a shower with a plastic bag over my arm for the first time in weeks and it's absolute absurd how happy that made me. Until I see some sort of real accomplishment, like Egypt getting their president Mubarak to agree to step down, and I realize just how silly and trivial my life is. Cheerful train of thought, I know, but really nothing out of the ordinary for me. I don't think I have any Egyptian readers out there or if the internet is even back on in Egypt, but just in case, اتمنى لك كل السعادة. Here's your Tuesday night TV:
8:00pm: "The Biggest Loser" on NBC
"NCIS" on CBS. It seems like USA runs this show All The Time some weekends which is irritating because USA is one of my go-to channels for crappy weekend movies.

Soon after becoming the Rnc chairman, Michael Steele promised to give the committee a hip-hop makeover. Unfortunately, not everyone shared his vision, and faster than you can say "slum love" -a phrase one particularly colorful interviewer asked him about-he began his foray into TV and radio gaffes. "For those of you who wish to obstruct, get ready to get knocked over," he promised.
Steele Credits God for His Rnc Position
Famous last words: In 2010, Steele defended himself against conservative critics who took aim at the then-rnc chairman for controversial remarks about his party during his book tour.

Michael Steele was on MSNBC's Meet The Press this morning, talking to David Gregory about health care reform. The conversation eventually turned to yesterday's anti-health care rally at the capitol, when members of the conservative Tea Party movement allegedly verbally assaulted John Lewis and Barney Frank, using racial and gay slurs. And unlike Sarah Palin, Michael Steele doesn't self-identify with the Tea Party movement.
