BBC Director General Tim Davie has declined to rule out an external inquiry into the Russell Brand allegations as he stresses the issues surrounding the situation are “not wholly historic.”
Pressed on the BBC’s internal review at the Rts Cambridge Convention and whether the BBC could look outside the corporation for help, he said: “I don’t rule out anything.”
Davie unveiled the internal review led by Peter Johnston earlier this week following the allegations published by The Times and Channel 4, which range from rape to sexual assault and come from four women. The BBC has also removed content featuring Brand from its VoD player and yesterday Davie told staff he didn’t know how some of Brand’s older broadcasts were allowed to air.

BBC boss Tim Davie has said he hasn’t ruled out an external investigation relating to the allegations against comedian Russell Brand.
Over the weekend Brand was the subject of an in-depth joint investigation by The Times of London, The Sunday Times and Channel 4 documentary strand “Dispatches” which alleged he had sexually assaulted and raped up to four women at the height of his fame. Brand has strenuously denied the allegations.
Davie was appearing in conversation at the Royal Television Society conference in Cambridge, U.K. where he was questioned by journalist Kate Bulkley.
Citing the ongoing investigation against BBC DJ Tim Westwood, who is currently the subject of another investigation led by an independent reviewer following allegations of sexual assault, and obliquely referring to the recent Huw Edwards scandal, Bulkley asked Davie “Who’s next?”
“These are very serious allegations,” Davie replied. “We just can’t be complacent.

“What led to that being on air?,” questioned Director General Tim Davie of Russell Brand’s old BBC broadcasts today, as he set out the scope of the review into Brand, which should report back in “weeks not months.”
Addressing the allegations in an all-staff Q&a this afternoon, Davie said Peter Johnston, Director of Editorial Complaints and Reviews, will oversee the report.
“We’ll look at any complaints made about Russell Brand’s conduct during his time, what was known at the time, what was done – so full transparency, we’re digging into anything that we’ve got there,” he added. “I’m hoping for an initial report in weeks, not months. So this is not something we want to take too long [over], but we do want to get to the facts.”

The BBC has refused to say whether it received historical complaints about Russell Brand as the broadcaster is expected to face scrutiny over allegations about the comedian’s alleged conduct.
Brand presented shows for BBC 6 Music and BBC Radio 2 from 2006 to 2008. He was forced to quit in a firestorm of controversy for leaving “gratuitously offensive” messages on the voicemail of Andrew Sachs, in which he hinted at sleeping with the Fawlty Towers actor’s granddaughter.
As part of an investigation into allegations that Brand raped and sexually assaulted four women, The Times and Sunday Times newspapers and Channel 4 reported that complaints were made about Brand’s behavior to Lesley Douglas, then controller of BBC Radio 2.
Deadline has contacted Brand’s publicist and attorney for comment. He preemptively refuted criminal allegations in a social media video, in which he said his relationships were “always consensual.” He said reports about...

“Imbalances of power are dangerous and we care about them,” BBC Director General Tim Davie said today, as he was questioned on the Phillip Schofield debate and accusations of toxicity on This Morning.
Speaking to the influential Culture, Media & Sport Committee (Cmsc), Davie acknowledged there are “imbalances” in the “strange TV industry, where you have people earning talent salaries verses producer salaries.”
“Your concerns are well placed,” he told Committee Chair Caroline Dinenage. “Imbalances of power are dangerous and we care about them. Culturally I am very direct about that not being something I want to see at this organization.”
Davie said he speaks from experience. As Acting Director General 10 years ago, he shepherded the BBC through the first few months of the Jimmy Savile scandal. A new 24-hour phone line has been opened by the independent review team examining the BBC’s response to concerns about DJ Tim Westwood’s conduct.
The team, overseen by Gemma White Kc, have said they are keen to hear from Black women.
White was appointed in August 2022, after an internal BBC report into sexual misconduct allegations against the former Radio 1 DJ found that the corporation may have failed to properly investigate concerns raised about his behaviour during his two-decade BBC career.
The new phone line will be live for four weeks from Thursday 20 April until Friday 19 May. The line will be running 24/7 to ensure people are able to come forward with evidence either about Westwood’s conduct or the BBC’s response.

The woman tasked with investigating how much the BBC knew about sexual misconduct allegations against former radio DJ Tim Westwood has said she has combed through 50,000 documents in her search for evidence.
Gemma White Kc, who was appointed last year by the BBC to carry out an independent inquiry into Westwood, said she expects to report her findings by early July at the latest. The BBC has committed to publishing her review in full. Westwood has strongly denied wrongdoing.
In an update on her work, White said that as well as conducting searches on BBC papers, she had interviewed individuals who worked at the broadcaster during the period in which Westwood presented shows for Radio 1 and 1Xtra.

Tim Westwood has been interviewed twice under police caution after allegations of sexual misconduct.
Last year, the DJ was accused of predatory and unwanted sexual behaviour and touching by multiple women.
In a joint investigation by the BBC and The Guardian, seven women – all of whom are Black – spoke about the alleged incidents, which are said to have taken place between 1992 and 2017.
Westwood strenuously denied the allegations at the time, with a spokesperson alleging that the claims were completely false.
On Wednesday (12 April), the Metropolitan Police said officers were investigating five accusations of offences alleged to have happened between 1982 and 2016.
“Police are investigating five reports relating to allegations of non-recent sexual offences allegedly committed by a man,” their statement read.
“The offences are alleged to have occurred in London between 1982 and 2016. A 65-year-old man was interviewed under caution on March 15 2023 and April 4 2023.”

Nickelback have thanked Lizzo for her “kind words” after she came out in defence of their music.
In a 2019 video for CBC Music, the Grammy-winning singer gave her opinion on a variety of former hits, including the rock band’s 2001 song “How You Remind Me”.
“Why do people not like Nickelback? I feel like Nickelback gets way too much s***,” Lizzo argued, as she sang along to Nickelback’s top hit.
“I think that this is a jam. It has a beautiful climax,” she added.
Now, years later, the four-piece band have tweeted their belated appreciation. “Thank you Lizzo for the kind words!” they wrote.
“Open invite any show any time... maybe see you in Houston this summer?”
Several fans responded in agreement with Lizzo, heaping praise on her. “This is so pure,” one wrote.

The BBC Board has appointed an independent reviewer to examine concerns regarding DJ Tim Westwood’s conduct during his time with the corporation.
The BBC Board made the decision following an expedited review by the broadcaster’s internal investigations team, which reported to the board’s senior independent director Nick Serota. The BBC has instructed Gemma White QC, supported by the law firm Linklaters, to lead this work.
The 64-year-old Westwood presented shows on BBC Radio 1 and Radio 1Xtra between 1994 and 2013. In April, a joint investigation conducted by the BBC and the Guardian brought to light the accounts of seven Black women who alleged sexual touching and sexual misconduct by Westwood between 1992 and 2017. They were featured in the BBC Three documentary, “Tim Westwood: Abuse of Power.”
Serota said: “New allegations and issues are emerging as time passes and more people are prepared to come forward. For this reason the work must continue.

The BBC faces fresh pressure over its handling of complaints into the behaviour of its former long-time DJ Tim Westwood, with the retired judge who led the review into the Jimmy Savile Scandal backing calls for an independent inquiry.
Dame Janet Smith told The Times an impartial figure was required to scrutinise complaints made against the DJ, accused of sexual misconduct by 17 women – all whose claims he denies.
She said: “An independent inquiry is always better than an internal one because, however objective you think you can be, you aren’t, full stop.”
The BBC will shortly release the results of its own internal review into the complaints after director-general Tim Davie – who was previously head of Audio and Music at the corporation, making him Westwood’s ultimate boss for four years – initially asserted that the BBC had seen “no evidence” of the DJ’s alleged behaviour.

The BBC has declared a record income of £5.33 billion (6.4 billion) for the 2021/2022 period, up from £5.06 billion last year, and a surplus of £206 billion.
In the corporation’s annual report, which was published on Tuesday, it was revealed that the bulk of the income was from the license fee paid for by the public, which accounted for £3.8 billion, £50 million up from last year. The licence fee has been frozen for two years as revealed earlier this year. BBC chair Richard Sharp termed this as “disappointing.”
“The working assumption is that this will open up an income gap, which is modelled to be at least £285 million a year by 2027-2028. Clearly, this is disappointing,” Sharp told a media briefing. “However, the BBC recognises that the licence fee is a privilege, and that the funding settlement offers certainty against which we can plan.”

Months after BBC director general Tim Davie said there was “no evidence of complaints,” the BBC has said it has received six complaints against DJ Tim Westwood.
Westwood denies all charges. He has stepped down from his show on radio station Capital Xtra until further notice, parent company Global said.
At the time, Davie, who was director of audio and music at the BBC from 2008-2012, had said “we looked at our records and we’ve seen no evidence of complaints” against Westwood.
Davie also said: “Every complaint has to be taken seriously.

The BBC is likely to reduce the amount of content it produces rather than cutting whole channels in order to make massive savings, according to Director General Tim Davie, who had to deflect tricky questions about its relationship with disgraced DJ Tim Westwood.
A major announcement is coming over the next few weeks as to how the corporation plans to save around £1.5B (2B) over the next five years and Davie hinted that cutting shows over services is the likely direction. He has operated with a policy of “fewer, bigger, better” since taking over 18 months ago.
“We’ll pay for less,” he told today’s Voice of the Listener & Viewer conference. “By doing everything on every service you spread yourself too thin.”
Cutting whole services such as BBC Three or BBC Four, on the other hand, was rejected almost completely outright.

The reaction to superstar rapper Lil Wayne and his mentor and Cash Money Records boss Bryan “Baby” Williams (a.k.a. “Birdman”) smooching on the lips was awash in the sort of not-so-casual homophobia endemic to hip-hop, but there was still something a little unusual about their embrace. Asked about it by radio DJ Tim Westwood back in 2009, Williams was unequivocal.“That’s my son,” Williams said. “If he was right here, I’d kiss him again. I kiss my daughter. I kiss my other son. Danny Dyer is an actor, a TV presenter, a football chairman, and a right propa nawty geezer of the very highest order.
One thing he is definitely not though is a comedian. But despite this, he remains one the UK’s foremost comedy geniuses working today, with a string of legendary yet accidental comic performances behind him.
His brand of humour is not observational like Ricky Gervais, caustic like Stewart Lee or blue like Roy ‘Chubby’ Brown.
Rather it’s that subtle, deep-seated, fully fleshed-out type of character comedy that the likes of Keith Lemon and Tim Westwood have been doing for years. In fact, in Danny Dyer’s case, it’s so deep-seated that he himself might not be aware it’s happening.
It’s exactly his ability to keep such a straight face when faced with ludicrous situations that makes so much of what he does inadvertently hilarious.

It's a game that Ant and Dec get to play every year - Guess the I'm a Celebrity lineup.
The hosts of ITV's jungle reality show don't get the final say on who the producers pick for the bushtucker ordeal, but that doesn't stop them having plenty of suggestions.
Digital Spy caught up with the Geordie duo this week as they prepare for their Saturday Night Takeaway arena tour and found out who they want to see flying out to Australia later this year.
The three names they picked were, erm, a little unusual.
"It's always the same my list. Mr T, Tim Westwood and Peter Stringfellow," said Ant, deadly seriously.
You might think that sounds like an odd bunch, but he defends their selection.
"Try telling me, if that was the final three, you wouldn't be happy with that. If they were the final three, you'd know it would have been a vintage year.

The expression “It’s a lot” is described by a character within this Darwood Grace and Femi Oyeniran production, as being a slang term for something that is either “exceptionally good”, or something “exceptionally bad”. Sadly, this comedy leans somewhat closer to the latter.
Director and writer Oyeniran plays our lead Shawn, a public schooled youngster who is fed up with such a lifestyle, and decides to spend more time with his less affluent cousin Kai (Jazzie Zonzolo) and proceeds to join him at his London college. Given Shawn’s parents are out of town, he offers up his family mansion to accommodate his classmate Chrissy’s (Roxy Sternberg) birthday party. Things get way out of hand, as he gets himself into a mess that has to be resolved before his parents return home – including raising enough money to fix his dad’s favourite car, which he drove straight into a lamp-post.

You may not recognise Declan Lowney but chances are he’s made you laugh. As the directing talent behind Father Ted, Little Britain, Moone Boy and Help he called the shots on a generation of TV comedy classics. Back in 2002 he collaborated with Steve Coogan on the neglected gem Cruise of the Gods, a TV movie about a sci-fi convention on a cruise ship. Now the pair have reunited for Alan Partridge: Alpha Papa, the first cinematic adventure of Norwich’s second most famous son (after Tim Westwood, depending on the demographic). We spoke to Declan about directing Coogan, the pressures of bringing Partridge to the multiplexes, and why there’ll always be an Alan…
Congratulations on Alpha Papa, the funniest film of 2013. Are you pleased with the reaction it’s getting?
Yeah, it’s very exciting being involved. Everyone seems to like it so far. It’s such a relief!

Due out in cinemas this October, It’s a Lot marks the directorial debut of Femi Oyeniran, who’s starred in the likes of Kidulthood, Adulthood, and (the similarly titled, but unrelated) Anuvahood.
The film sees Oyeniran return to the world of the urban British teen comedy, and now a new trailer has debuted online to showcase what we’ve got coming our way a few months down the line.
Shaun’s a lucky boy – growing up he’s had the right education, parents that loved him and he’s never been short of cash. But as he gets older, he finds he doesn’t fit into this world, especially with the self-righteous and entitled kids at his posh private school.
Deliberately deceiving his family, he enrols at his cousin’s college where he discovers an untouched new world of girls, parties and excitement.

Misst Elliott and Timbaland are finally willing to talk Drake. Specifically, Drake's producing a posthumous Aaliyah album without contacting either of the hip-hop artists.
Elliott and Timbaland stopped by Hot 97 to sit down with host Angie Martinez. The duo first debuted two new songs, "9th Inning" and "Triple Threat," reported Complex magazine, then started talking Aaliyah.
The two hip-hop heavyweights were professionally and personally close with the late singer, who died tragically in a plane crash in 2001. When news first spread of Drake releasing a posthumous Aaliyah album, fans thought Elliott and Timbaland would be in. However, neither has been contacted about or involved in the process.
When asked about Drake's Aaliyah album, Timbaland said, "I don’t even know if it’s an album, I don’t think that’s in the works. I don’t know, I think it’s blown out of proportion. I haven’t spoken to Drake yet.

Ant & Dec have revealed that they want Chris Moyles for I'm a Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here!. The presenters of the ITV1 show predicted that the BBC Radio 1 Breakfast Show host, who leaves the station on Friday (September 14), would triumph in the jungle. "He'd be really funny, he'd probably win. And he's lost so much weight, even the lack of food wouldn't bother him," they told the Daily Star. Moyles signed with Ant & Dec's manager last month as he looks to move into TV work following his Radio 1 stint. Ant & Dec previously named Tim Westwood and Grace Jones as their dream I'm a Celebrity contestants. "Tim (more)...

Los Angeles, California (X17online) - Rapper Drake has released a new song titled "Enough Said" which contains unreleased vocals from the late R&B singer Aaliyah, who died in a plane crash 11 years ago at the age of 22. Drake has claimed Aaliyah is one of his musical idols and even has a tattoo of the late singer on his back. The new track, produced by Noah "40" Shebib," was posted on his website on Sunday and cited as "Aaliyah featuring Drake." In April, Drake hinted at doing a project involving Aaliyah, telling Tim Westwood, a U.K. TV personality, that he was planning "special things. Great things, man. Great things for music, period." Producer and rapper Timbaland said in the media that Drake should not produce an album involving Aaliyah unless he and Missy Elliott are included in the project, as they previously collaborated with her. Check out the new track here!

Days after gossip flared that Drake would be releasing a posthumous Aaliyah album, the first single, titled "Enough Said," was leaked by producer Noah "40" Shebib.
Billed as Aaliyah featuring Drake, "Enough Said" includes never-before-heard vocals from the late singer. The artwork for the album features both the logo of Drake's label, October's Very Own, and Blackground Records, with whom Aaliyah was signed, noted MissInfo.tv.

News of the new single quickly spread on Twitter, where fans expressed bittersweet emotions over the beloved singer, who died tragically in a plane crash in August 2001.
Although "Enough Said" received great reviews, many fans asked: "Why not Timbaland?"
Aaliyah and the rapper/producer were close friends and confidants. They collaborated on numerous tracks, and he produced the majority of Aaliyah's sophomore album, One In A Million.

Nicki Minaj has said that she "doesn't approve" of the ongoing feud between Chris Brown and Drake. The R&B stars were allegedly involved in a nightclub brawl earlier in the month that was rumoured to have been started over Rihanna. NME reports that Minaj discussed the incident in an interview with Radio 1Xtra DJ Tim Westwood, saying she doesn't approve of "talented people doing things that aren't conducive to an amazing career". She added: "I spoke to Drake, and I told him from the bottom of my heart how I felt. I'm like, 'Baby, you are a superstar, and I need you to realise that'. "He did nothing wrong, of course. Drake has suggested that he could be working on a posthumous collaboration with Aaliyah. The rapper and actor has been busy promoting his sophomore album Take Care, released last November. "I have some great Aaliyah news coming soon," Drake told Tim Westwood in an interview. "Some special things." On August 25, 2001, Aaliyah boarded a plane along with members of her record label after she finished filming her 'Rock the Boat' music video. The plane crashed shortly after takeoff at The Bahamas. London, Sept 27: Mothers who dress like their daughters and dads who use slang like "innit" cause the biggest embarrassments to their children, a new study has found.
While parents may be convinced it's 'wicked' to be 'down with the kids', their friends and acquaintances find it every bit as embarrassing as their children do, the report said.
'Innit' tops the list of phrases that parents shouldn't attempt to use, according to a poll, with 'chillax' - meaning 'calm down' and 'wicked', 'down with the kids', 'awesome' and 'whatever' - coming close behind.
In the survey, the 53-year-old DJ Tim Westwood was judged an example of.
