Steven Moffat is not adverse to giving the fans what they want. After all he’s brought back Paul McGann, reverted to the pre new paradigm Daleks, made the anniversary special a multi-doctor romp, swapped the cybusmen with the genuine article and given us scenes of the Time War and Gallifrey.
Series Nine will continue the trend, providing fans with plenty to get excited about. For starters we will see the return of the much missed two parters. The producer has also brought on board two new female writers (Catherine Tregenna, Sarah Dollard), fulfilling another wish within fandom.
But nevertheless, some hopes for Series Nine are likely to be nothing but pipe dreams. Many of them resurface in every interregnum. Even if Steven Moffat has emphatically said “no” the rumours continue on the basis that he has been known to be economical with the truth and sometimes downright misleading.

When Simon Cowell tweets, you know things are serious. With rumours swirling that Louis Walsh was out of The X Factor, Cowell took to Twitter to clear things up - and basically confirmed that Lulu is out of there. And we're devastated.
We know that our love for Louis is not exactly reciprocated (he's made his feelings for Digital Spy known in the past), but our connection to him is so strong that we can overlook such differences of opinion. The fact is, The X Factor just won't be the same without him (and not in a good way).
You're my baby Bublé: 8 wacky Louis Walsh compliments from X Factor
Louis doesn't get a lot of credit for his role on The X Factor, but we think this is an oversight - actually, he makes the show. And in the words of Lord Paddy Ashdown (sort of), if people don't miss him,...

It's been a long Election Night.
From a BBC political editor soldiering on in spite of illness to a political stalwart whose hat became the butt of many a joke, it was quite a surreal evening on all accounts. As always, we at Digital Spy are here to curate everything through the weirdness that was Election Night.
1. Liberal Democrat stalwart Paddy Ashdown and his hat
Forget about Nick Clegg, clearly the Liberal Democrats' loser of the night was party chair Paddy Ashdown. Paddy offered the following gem when presented with disappointing exit poll figures: "If that exit poll is right, I'll eat my hat." Oh Paddy, don't tempt Twitter....

And even Andrew Neil got in on the act.
Paddy Ashdown's hat narrative reaches its conclusion. #GE2015 https://t.co/86OmJ3bxqW

From Piers Morgan to Polly Toynbee, Jemima Khan to Jarvis Cocker – David Cameron takes questions from public figures who want answers
Hear what the Pm has to say in our audio interactive
David Mitchell, comedian
Do you wish you were less posh?
"[Laughs] No. You can't change who you are. For a long time I thought my full name was 'The Old Etonian David Cameron'. I had parents who gave me a wonderful start in life, who sacrificed a lot to give me a great education. So I don't ever want to change – I don't want to drop my accent or change my vowels. I am who I am."
Piers Morgan, TV presenter
If you could relive one moment in your life, excluding births of children and marriage, what would it be?
"God, that's a really good question. Piers, why don't you ever ask really good questions like that normally? I...

Veteran British funnyman John Cleese turned down the chance to become a lord because he didn't want to spend his winters in England.
The Monty Python star was offered the chance to join Britain's House of Lords by former Liberal Democrats leader Paddy Ashdown in honour of his years of contributions to the political party.
But Cleese rejected the peerage - because it would have encroached on his sunny vacations.
The title requires the holder to spend more time in the U.K.
Cleese tells Britain's Sunday Telegraph, "Paddy was going to offer me one when he ceased to be leader of the Lib Dems, for political services - not because I was such a wonderful human being, and because I'd helped them (the Liberal Democrats) a lot. But I realised this involved being in England in the winter and I thought that was too much of a price to pay."
Cleese previously turned down the offer to be made a Commander of the Order of the British Empire (Cbe) by The Queen in 1996, confessing he thought such honours were "silly".
