LONDON -- U.K. veteran journalist and movie critic David Gritten has been elected chair of the film section of the Critics' Circle here, the organization said Thursday. Gritten succeeds broadcaster and critic John Marriot, who has relocated to live in the Netherlands after eight years in the hot seat. Freelancer Gritten writes for The Daily Telegraph and Saga magazine here and has previously written for the Los Angeles Times. Freelance film writer Marianne Gray, vice chair of the section, is appointed chair of the Critics' Circle Film Awards Committee, taking over from William Russell, former film critic of the Herald in Glasgow who has stood down after four years in the job. The 27th Critics' Circle Film Awards, a charity event in aid of the NSPCC, will be held Thursday, Feb. 8 at the Dorchester Hotel, London.
