ESPN acknowledged it was “clearly wrong in submitting certain names going back to 2007” in light of a shocking report that reveals how the network skirted Emmy rules to help on-air talent rack up trophies.
Much of the report involved the stars of College GameDay, who picked up multiple Sports Emmys for Outstanding Weekly Studio Show between 2008 and 2018. Up until 2023, talent could not be included in a credit list for Outstanding Weekly Show; hosts, analysts and reporters on could win individual awards, but they couldn’t earn an Emmy if the show triumphed.
According to a report in The Athletic, ESPN got around the rule by creating fake names for the credit list it submitted for College GameDay. All were listed as associate producers. Once the show won for Outstanding Weekly Show, ESPN took the awards earned by those fake folks and had them re-engraved with the names of on-air personalities.

ESPN has disciplined members of its staff who worked for years to secure Emmys for on-air personnel who were not normally eligible for the awards by using fake names and entering them in various categories, according to an investigation by The Athletic.
The probe found that ESPN has for more than a decade inserted fake personnel names in entries to win more than 30 Emmys, then took the awards, removed the fraudulent nameplates and had the statues engraved anew so they could be given to on-air staff. Among those who were given the ill-gotten awards are Kirk Herbstreit, Lee Corso, Chris Fowler, Desmond Howard and Samantha Ponder. Much of the activity seems to center around “College GameDay,” the Disney-backed sports-media outlet’s very popular college-football program.
“Some members of our team were clearly wrong in submitting certain names that may go back to 1997 in Emmy categories where they were not eligible for recognition or statuettes.

Vince Vaughn told us in his 1996 film, Swingers, to always double down on 11 when playing blackjack.
Now he’s advanced to sports betting advice, appearing as the celebrity guest Saturday on ESPN’s College Game Day.
Vaughn wore a Notre Dame letterman jacket as he sat on stage alongside Pat McAfee, Lee Corso, and Desmond Howard
He explained that he was wearing the jacket because of his role in the 1993 sports film classic, Rudy, the story of an undersized lineman who made a play for the ages in Notre Dame football. Vaughn played quarterback Jamie O’Hara in the film, and cited that as his reason when he picked Notre Dame to win over the Ohio State Buckeyes
“The Buckeyes are for real, always. You can never doubt them. That being said, I played for Notre Dame — I threw a pass. If I had half the heart of Rudy, I would...

Disney on Tuesday followed NBCUniversal and Fox in presenting its content slate to advertisers. Like them, it bet heavily on sports, news and reality personalities amid the WGA strike, which prompted street picketing outside New York’s Javits Center.
However, testing the patience of the attendees, Disney went double the length of the Monday presentations, with little attention to ABC’s strike-contingent, reality-heavy fall schedule unveiled earlier in the day.
Disney kicked off its upfront presentation in an expected fashion, with a flashy highlight reel that drove home the “magic” of the Mouse House. A brief voice over from Ellen Pompeo reminded the audience that “when the imagination is limitless, life’s possibilities are endless,” as they settled in for the lengthy two-hour presentation. Here were the highlights:

Stomp, the award-winning percussion, rhythm and comedy production created by Steve McNicholas and Luke Cresswell, will take its final off-Broadway bow this winter.
On Tuesday, producers announced the long-running show would close, with its final performance at the Orpheum Theatre set for Jan. 8, 2023. The closing is “due to declining ticket sales,” a spokesperson for the production told The Hollywood Reporter.
“We are so proud that the East Village and the Orpheum Theatre has been Stomp’s home for so many wonderful years and want to thank our producers and our amazing cast, crew and front-of-house staff, all of whom have worked so hard for so long to make the show such a success,” Cresswell and McNicholas said in a statement. “They have always given 100 percent to every audience, from the very beginning in 1994 to the post-lockdown audiences of 2022. Stomp, the percussive Off Broadway staple that has drawn tourists and locals to its East Village theater for nearly 30 years, will close on January 8, 2023, producers announced today.
The show, which combines percussion, movement, comedy and everyday objects transformed into musical instruments, will continue its North American and European tours.
Though producers didn’t specify a reason for the closure, New York tourism and the theater industry has yet to fully recover to pre-Covid levels. Stomp was among New York’s first stage productions to resume performances after the 15-month 2020-21 shutdown, resuming its drumbeats on Tuesday, July 20, 2021.
Stomp‘s team of producers said in a statement today, “We fell in love with Stomp when we first saw it in Europe and when we brought this hard-to-describe show here, we imagined that it would find an audience. Hey, "Station 19" fans. Unfortunately, we have some very bad news for you guys in this report. If you were hoping to catch the new episode 15 tonight, you are going to have to rethink that plan. In fact, anyone who was hoping to catch a new episode of any show on the ABC primetime line up tonight, will have to find something else to watch because none of the regularly scheduled ABC shows will be airing tonight, April 25, 2019. Instead, the next, new Station 19 episode 15 is scheduled to air next Thursday night, May 2, 2019. So, be sure to mark down that very important date on your TV show calendars. So, what is ABC airing instead of Station 19 tonight? Well, according to the TV Guide listings, they are airing a full three and a half whopping hours of Live coverage for the first round of the 2019 NFL (National Football League) draft.

Aaron Rodgers just scored a deal to executive produce and develop a film project at Amazon Studios called “Work Horses.”
Rodgers will executive produce the film about college football with Heisman trophy winner Desmond Howard and Anthony Hemingway (“Red Tails”), an individual with knowledge of the project told TheWrap.
Hemingway will direct “Work Horses,” which highlights the drama resulting from the intensely competitive college football world, as well as probes how the surrounding schools and institutions profit off of unpaid student athletes as they struggle off the field.

Yesterday, Thurston Moore released Demolished Thoughts, his fourth and inarguably best solo album in the three decades since he co-founded Sonic Youth. Unlike his previous song-oriented solo works, Demolished Thoughts finds its sound--lush, lonely, Beck Hansen-assisted rock, retextured with acoustics--and sticks with it from start to finish. After one of the most enviable and inspiring careers in indie rock, Moore continues to reinvent his image and offerings with unexpected approaches.
But it doesn't work for everyone; in fact, everyone probably shouldn't try it. Below, we look at five bandleaders who have yet to make a solo album, and why we hope it stays that way.
Steven Tyler: Several years ago, Guided by Voices frontman Robert Pollard released an infamous collection called Relaxation of the Asshole, a best-of culled from the worst of his drunken banter. Even if you dislike his band, it's sort of an essential one-time listen.

Updates Actor Jason Bateman Splits From UTA Jason Bateman left UTA board member Tracey Jacobs in early January after she'd repped him for nearly 25 years. (With a couple of breaks in between...) Now others tell me he just signed with CAA. CAA also signed Eli Craig, a writer/director of the horror comedy that premiered at Sundance, Tucker And Dale Versus Evil. Also Tom Anderson, who's the exec producer of My Family which is the #1 sitcom on the BBC. Others tell me CAA agents Andy Elkin and Jeff Jacobs signed Espn sports analyst & 1991 Heisman Trophy winner Desmond Howard.
