Grupo Frontera’s experimental sophomore album, Jugando Que No Pasa Nada, is almost here. Rolling Stone can exclusively reveal the project’s cover art and track list, which includes collabs with Nicki Nicole, Christian Nodál, Maluma, and Morat.
The LP, out Friday, features 12 tracks that hear the band add R&b, pop, and bachata to their typical cumbia norteña sound. The album cover features a cartoon of an old truck, similar to the artwork on El Comienzo, but the truck’s bed is on fire this time. A small faceless...

After El Comienzo, the boys of Grupo Frontera are ready for what’s next.
On Tuesday, in a cover story with Fader, the Mexican American norteño band announced that they will be releasing their album Jugando Que No Pasa Nada this spring — and it features Nicki Nicole, Christian Nodál, Maluma, and Morat.
“We have R&b, bachata, all these different things,” frontman Payo Solís told the outlet. “[So people can] find their beat, in our album, with their cultural language.”
This album feels really fresh,” accordionist Juan Javier Cantú added. “It’s super diverse,...

If you ask the members of Grupo Frontera why they’ve become such a phenomenon in música mexicana, they’ll probably say they’re just having fun.
“Cumbias, I don’t want to say we revived them,” says vocalist Payo Solis, looking hesitantly at his bandmates at first. Then he adds: “But when we started playing them, it gave the genre a whole new life.”
Over the last year, the Texan band has rocketed to the top of Latin music, even joining Bad Bunny onstage at Coachella 2023 for a rendition...

Eager to move into horror, Spanish director Miguel Martí is partnering with famed actress-producer Macarena Gómez and distributor Carlos Guerrero on an ambitious project to find their perfect hair-raising script.
The trio’s respective, Madrid-based companies, Wonder Ficción, Cilantro Films and 39 Escalones, have launched the We Are Looking for Your Horror Script initiative, putting the call out to screenwriters with a penchant for chills, thrills and the macabre to submit their works from March 2 to April 16 via the website buscamostuguiondeterror.com.
The winning script will be announced on July 13 at the Sotogrande Music Festival, one of the initiative’s many partners. The winner will initially receive €4,000 as a four-year option on the script in addition to €3,600 for three months of development work. The producers will seek to finance the production over the four-year period. A purchase of the script under previously agreed upon terms will be effective once financing is confirmed.

Música Mexicana continues its impressive global ascent, thanks in large part to wildly popular bands, such as the rising norteño outfit Grupo Frontera. Formed exactly one year ago today, Grupo Frontera has already been seeing massive success: The band — made up of Adelaido Solís, Julian Peña Jr., Alberto Acosta, Carlos Zamora, Carlos Guerrero, Juan Javier Cantu — currently has three songs on the Billboard 100, including the Fuerza Regida collaboration “Bebe Dame,” the Carin Leon collaboration “Que Vuelvas,” and the viral single “No Se Va.”
They’re showing no signs of stopping.

Argentina’s “Fan,” Colombia’s “Gloria and the Dragon” and Peru’s “Laureano” figure among seven titles at Sanfic Industria’s Productoras Lab, a novel pitching program and training facility for emerging, first or second-feature women producers in Latin America. All three titles carry good word of mouth.
The producers will attend tutorials on how to think from early development about film finance, distribution and boosting the international reach of their productions.
“We received a lot of highly distinctive projects from all over Latin America. It was complex to select just seven producers through their projects which take in both fiction features and documentaries,” Gabriela Sandoval, Sanfic Industria director, told Variety.
Below, the final cut, and some details about the projects and their female producers, where known:
“Fan,” (Mariela di Naro, Argentina)
Director-producer di Naro’s first feature, a doc portrait of Euge Cabral (48), a die-hard fan of singer Luis Miguel...

Nearly 100 SAG-AFTRA members rallied peacefully but boisterously Thursday outside the union’s Los Angeles headquarters to protest the industry’s Covid-19 vaccination mandate.
Chanting “Stop the shot” and “This is insanity,” they carried signs that read “My body, my choice,” “End the mandates now” and “The only shot I’m taking is Jack Daniel’s.” A guy with a bullhorn shouted, “Coercion is not consent,” and that accepting the mandate “is the beginning of socialism.”
Cha Cha Sandoval-McMahon, a stuntwoman and actress who organized the protest, called it “a pretty good turnout” for only two days of networking.
The film and TV industry’s Covid-19 safety protocols, which include a narrowly defined “Mandatory Vaccination” provision, are set to expire Saturday but could be extended, as they have been several times since the protocols were first issued in September 2020. The move enabled jobs and productions to rebound during the during the darkest days of the pandemic.

Updated with more details: A group of SAG-AFTRA members opposed to the film and TV industry’s vaccination mandate say they will stage a protest Thursday outside the union’s headquarters in Los Angeles. Oscar-nominated actress Sally Kirkland, a former Screen Actors Guild national board member, will be one of the speakers. As Covid restrictions are being lifted nationwide, the protesters say it’s time for Hollywood to scrap the mandate.

"It's up to you to deliver." HBO is now streaming this new film, Huracán, marking the feature directorial debut of filmmaker Cassius Corrigan, originally from Miami. This first premiered at the Miami Film Festival last year and just got released earlier this month on HBO - but we're only catching up with it now. Huracán is a psychological thriller about Alonso Santos (played by writer / director Cassius Corrigan), an aspiring mixed martial arts (Mma) fighter who suffers from Multiple Personality Disorder. Legendary UFC fighter Jorge Masvidal, also an executive producer, plays Alonso's final opponent Cain Colón, in this film hailed by critics as so captivating you "can't stop watching." Featuring music composed by Roman Molino Dunn (aka "Electropoint"). The cast includes Yara Martinez, Camila Rodríguez, Steven Spence, and Carlos Guerrero. This looks solid - not just another repetitive Mma drama, there's much more going on in here. Here's the official...

When you think of the game of football and of those who came before and changed the game, one of the first people that has to come to mind is Terrell Owens. Love him or hate him, he changed the game and it made it a ton of fun to watch. Over an incredible 16 career T.O. amassed 1,078 receptions, 15,934 yards, and 153 TDs, good enough to make him 8th all-time in receptions. His accollades include being a 6-time Pro Bowler, a 2018 Hall of Fame inductee, and now Cover Man for Madden NFL 19 Hall of Fame Edition.
Much like last year's G.O.A.T. Edition, the H.O.F. edition won't have much of a difference in comparison to the Standard Edition, though the...
