Simon Rumley (director of Red, White & Blue, Fashionista & Crowhurst) has begun a six week shoot on the brutal gangster thriller Once Upon a Time in London – for Gateway Films – which dramatises the violent reign of two of London’s most notorious gangsters, Billy Hill (Leo Gregory) and Jack ‘Spot’ Comer (Terry Stone), charting the legendary rise and fall of a nationwide criminal empire that lasted until the mid-fifties and which paved the way for the notorious Kray Twins and The Richardsons.
Director and co-writer Simon Rumley commented:
Having spent the last decade or so writing and directing thematically disparate but collectively extreme dramas, it makes absolute sense for me to progress to the gangster genre where love, lust, greed, paranoia, betrayal and violence are every day occurrences. The story of Jack Spot Comer, Billy Hill and their respective battles to become King of London’s Underworld has remained one of Britain’s most dynamic,...

We've made no secret of our love for British anthology series Bloody Cuts. The team is assembling 13 short films to put together into one large project. And all the films have been outstanding. However, with Don't Move the Bloody Cuts team has outdone themselves.
Made in association with Millennium F/X, Don't Move is an amazing short film. The guys at Bloody Cuts have proven time and time again that they can build tension, but they do it better than ever in this picture. You will be absolutely blown away by the effects in this film. It contains a monster that is better quality than almost anything you've seen in feature films in years, and the death scenes are top notch. And by the way, the last death is absolutely stunning. Don't Move is a damn near perfect short film. #Awesome!
The film stars Rachel Bright, Ian Whyte, Jake Hendricks,...

*full disclosure: a DVD screener of this film was provided by Image Entertainment.
Directors/writers: Sean Hogan, Andrew Parkinson, and Simon Rumley.
The British contribution to horror cinema has always been unique. Whether the contribution is from Hammer Films or a creative mind like Clive Barker, true innovators who frequently contribute to the scene are few and far between. While the last decade had many one hit wonders from the creative direction of Danny Boyle (28 Days Later) and Edgar Wright (Shaun of the Dead), Little Deaths may very well introduce new up-and-comers into the collective.
This product offers a unique set of vignettes that brings recollections of a few lesser-known styles of cinema horror back into the limelight. The hope is that these writer/directors will have more to come in the next few years.
In the first short, “House and Home,” by Sean Hogan, there is more to the...

Little Deaths is a nasty little British horror anthology composed of three disturbing tales intertwined around such themes of sex, death and relationships.
Make no mistake, this is definitely not for everyone – this gruesome and gory trilogy displays quite graphic and extreme sexual content that will probably test even the seasoned horror film buff.
That being said, let’s dive right in, shall we?
The first entry is writer/director Sean Hogan’s House & Home, which follows disturbed, rich and religious husband and wife, Richard (Luke De Lacy) & Victoria (Siubhan Harrison), as they prey on a homeless woman, aptly titled Sorrow (Holly Lucas), with the intent of capturing, using and abusing her for their own sexual satisfaction.
What follows is revolting and vile, as we are forced to bear witness to husband and wife gleefully tormenting their victim and enjoying themselves all too much.
While this sequence is quite harrowing,...

Get set, Dreadheads; Image Entertainment is about to release the critically acclaimed horror anthology Little Deaths (review here) on unrated DVD. Directed by the UK filmmaking trio of Andrew Parkinson, Sean Hogan and Simon Rumley, the flick features three titillating and depraved tales of sex, power and retribution, all exploring just what can happen when these universal themes are violated in unspeakable ways.
Dread Central recently chatted with writer/director Rumley regarding his contribution to Little Deaths, the sado-masochistic love story "Bitch," which is centered around the relationship of strong-willed receptionist Claire (Kate Braithwaite) and her docile and obedient boyfriend Pete (Tom Sawyer), whom she literally treats like a dog. Eventually Claire’s sexual games become more than Pete can bear, and the tormented boyfriend sets in motion a series of events meant to give Claire the ultimate taste of her own medicine. During our interview with the filmmaker, Rumley...

Monster Brawl
Director/writer: Jesse T. Cook
Country: Canada
Running Time: 85 mins
Certificate: 18
Starring: Dave Foley, Art Hindle, Robert Maillet, Kevin Nash, Jimmy Hart, Herb Dean
The writer and director of 2008's horror flick Scarce, Jesse T. Cook, revisits the genre in his latest film Monster Brawl. “The time will come when monsters shape the futures of all” begins a suitably jocular voice-over that introduces us to the “most highly-anticipated extreme sport ever”. Making a horror enthusiast's hypothetical pub chat a reality, Cook pits some of the genre's most celebrated figures against each other in the wrestling ring.
Eight of the most powerful ghouls of all time from all four corners of the earth come together and are structured into “two conferences” with middle and heavy weight “monsters” and “creatures”, such as “Witch Bitch”. An American TV show set-up is quickly established with presenter, Buzz Chambers hosting from a secret cemetery location.

Little Deaths
Directed by Sean Hogan, Andrew Parkinson, and Simon Rumley
UK – 2011
The Fantastic Fest Midnighters sidebar at SXSW is a wonderful idea. Austin’s annual Fantastic Festival is certainly one of the most esteemed and well curated genre festivals out there, but programming exclusively to a midnight crowd means occasionally succumbing to your baser instincts. Little Deaths, a horror anthology featuring three British directors shown as a part of this sidebar, seems designed to be assaultive and memorable, and is programmed to drive a midnight crowd wild. But beyond their immediate, and, sure, considerable, shock value, the three shorts here are overlong, underdeveloped, and cruel.
The first short, Sean Hogan’s House & Home, is easily the most frustrating of the three. It opens on a 30-something couple in bed as Victoria (Siubhan Harrison) frigidly dismisses her husband’s (Luke de Lacey) wandering hands. It becomes immediately clear that she...
